Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

All the NDT hate is based on what? Him being famous and more intelligent than you all?

Nay, t'was a White Walker. Appears in the prologue, kills two Nights Watch men, the third escapes, gets behead by Ned when he flees south.

was thinking of the dead little girl (wight) and forgot there was a WW. cheers for the correction.

Rewatching from series 6. "You're a greedy bitch you know that". God that is so awful. So very awful.

Ha I won't say specifics but I've heard some stories (about Maisie and Sophie) :D

(they like to party)

They have said previously these 6 episodes will be something like 70-90 minutes each haven't they? So running time I'm guessing pretty much the same as a standard 10 episode season.

A long time to wait, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Hoping they show the finale in cinemas.

Nope :(

While some episodes may be longer than usual, once again we’re hearing not to expect feature-length episodes throughout the season.

There’s way too much to wrap up in just 6 standard length episodes, unless they do the same with this new season as they just did and make it the Jon and Dany show again. Which in my opinion was a huge mistake. Gone are the days of world building and the sense of scale, and instead they’re either going to need to carry on with this small cast of main characters with the supporting cast squeezed in for a few moments to either die or just be window dressing or try and rush through two seperate wars. I hope that it’s not true, the last season was unfathomably shit because the world felt so vacant and potentially this new season is going to be shorter and they have so much more that they need to do in terms of story because in S7 very little actually happened.

No way they do 6 standard episodes. A minimum of 2 will be extremely long and I'd say there is a possibility of the first 4 being 90 mins and the final 2 even longer. That would be my ideal though so doubt it will happen

I do wonder though why a lot of people think theres still a lot to do.
WW are past the wall now. So theres 2 main stories to wrap up
Humans vs WW and undead army
Battle for throne (Cersei side vs Jon/Dany side).

Then the little stuff like Euron kidnapping Yara and Theon possibly getting her back.

Ifi you think about it, 6 eps will probably give us 9 hours.

Yeah everything is coming together now I don't think there is a lot of intrigue left nor is there a lot of world building left to do. Everything now is being focused on the North and the final showdowns. The world will seem a much smaller place because the story is reaching it's climax and that is all going to happen in just a couple of places (the North and possibly Kings Landing).

I expect some of the story lines, side relationships to be left at least some what open ended, not for a sequel but because the great game is a wheel and it keeps going round.

Seems clear the writers don't really know how to resolve it all and are cutting it down as a result. The budgets will be big but I imagine all sense of scale and scope will be gone.

I don't think it's difficult at all. I guess it might be given the information Martin might have provided them, but I see a very obvious ending which brings everything neatly together.

The ending won't be neat and obvious though, GRRM has always said that the ending will be bittersweet with some hope for the future(hence a dream of spring being the name of the final book). No matter the preferences of d&d they still need to keep to the endgame which is what they've said themselves as well. Last few seasons they've had to fill up with their own storylines cause they didn't have the books anymore (and they chose to ignore certain storylines that were present in the books, which is a waste cause we could've used some of them in s7) and especially the last season has shown that they seem to care more about getting it done than keeping continuity and logic in mind. But seeing as they know exactly where everyone will end up they'll have some sense of how to wrap it up, I hope. Though it wouldn't surprise me if they try to distract everyone from their bad writing by having extra bombastic scenes cause we definitely needed that flaming polar bear zombie last season :annoyed:

There are several obvious things though.

#1. Daenerys will survive, she'll be pregnant with Jons baby. Jon who will most likely (finally) die.
#2. There is no way in hell that the White Walkers will be defeated at Winterfell. So expect a draw with Humans having to pull back but a fair bit of damage done to the White Walkers (imagine a few of those will die but so will some of the secondary characters in the process).
#3. It's been mentioned way too many times that Kings Landing has a huge population. From the Night Kings perspective that should be his primary goal. Sack the city and he has an army that's far, far too large and he wins.
#4. With points 2 & 3 in mind it seems obvious that the Northern Armies pull back after a defeat at Winterfell, but the Night King decides to leave them be and focus on moving to Kings Landing.
#5. Daenerys will have aim from the Freys and Riverrun (imo, the Northern Armies will fall back to The Twins, a location that the viewers will recognise and given Lord Frey was killed, we have the Stark family connection with Edmure Tully. So he will call the forces of Frey and Riverrun to join the remains of the Northern Armies and Daenerys to march to Kings Landing.
#6. At this point this is where Cersei and Daenerys finally work together to defeat the Night King in a big fight scene at Kings Landing. Question is that once the Night King is killed what happens to Cersei and Daenerys? Cersei has to die, no way she survives the entire show. It would be somewhat bittersweet if both Jamie and Cersei are killed off and the final Lannister happens to be Tyrion. It seems clear to me that Jamie is going to do something heroic, this has been coming ever since Joffers taunted him when he showed Jamie the book of all the great knights and Jamies page is empty and Joff taunts him for having only 1 hand left.

That's how I see it all playing out. Plenty of room for some really, really epic moments.
