Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Oh, this probably has already been discussed, but was the show trying to show that Tyrion is jealous of Jon at the end?

Tyrion just needs to go out and do some whoring, I feel that is what's getting him down. Not sure he's drinking enough either, this abstinence and pious living isnt good for him.

It's a pretty weird character change for Tyrion I think... he should shagging left right and centre.

I reckon he's in love with Danny, because isn't everyone? (yawn)

My question is, why is everyone in love with Dany when Missandei is right there beside her all the time?
She's low-born, a former slave, and from a land nobody gives a feck about. Sure she's gorgeous to look at but she'll never be more than a pillow warmer for anyone who's anyone in the GOT universe.

He probably is. Either way, being around her certainly brings out a desire to be virtuous in him. But I dont see that as an inconsistency or bad writing, that strikes me as believable. Because either, as you said, he is in love with her, which is believable (though not necessarily interesting) or she has inspired him with her vision of making the world a better place. And if you spend your time fighting for that kind of cause I imagine it would make you want to clean up your own act, if you lived a life of debauchery. Not that its easy, of course, plenty of people who fight for justice and a better life for working people have personal lives they wouldnt want exposed to public scrutiny. But he's been in a completely different environment in recent months since he became her hand, away from the temptations he has known and spending time with someone who would disapprove of such things.

So yeah, long story short I can see why he has been abstaining, but I think its affected his mojo. I think if he got laid he'd be like Popeye after a can of spinach, the NK would be dead by the end of the week.

4 characters, Margaery Tyrell (could even mention the dragon as well). Stannis should be considered.. I'm not sure we can really complain about lack of grit though given last seasons finale killed off 10+ characters. That was always bound to have a knock on effect to this season. Based on this season i'd say Bronn, Jamie and all those taking part in the expedition were lucky to be alive. A few of those really should have been killed, the fact they haven't suggests we're in for a big loss up North next Season.

So 4 out of 16 then(I count Stannis as a less cunning version of Tywin more than a main character).

I'm not complaining about lack of grit in season 6. In fact, that is one of my favorite seasons.

And again: I'm not saying that main characters have to die all the time. But this really was the season to let a couple of important names go. 'Plot armor' and 'last second rescues' are not what you'd expect from a gritty show. Definitely not GoT. I don't mind good guys winning or even a certain degree of predictability(I loved 'The Battle of the Bastards' after all). But l still want some grit and untraditional storylines. This season, 6 out of 7 episodes was mainly based on Westros politics and conflicts, so it's not like the writers didn't have an opportunity to add some good old GoT grit...

Id settle for Melisandre to be honest, as long as she didnt do that thing where she reveals her true form. Though on second thoughts I dont know if I could make it work with someone who banged on about religion all the time.

Nah, she'll just want you to be naked all the time... be a bit weird when you take her home to meet the folks.

Stannis was definitely a main character, he was the central character to his entire storyline which took 5 seasons to finally end. Whether you think he was sympathetic is your personal opinion I guess. From my perspective I thought he was, he did some wrong (like all characters in GoT and did a lot right). His storyline was certainly tragic.

I agree that it needed to throw a few more punches this Season though. This is where TV writers become shit and predictable.

I am pretty shocked that none of the top earner's died this season, especially in the last episode. They must be hemorrhaging the budget.

Yeah, you'd have thought they'd maybe off one of the Lannister siblings. All massive earners but probably not as 'key' to the main plot as Jon/Daenerys have come. Although I'd have liked to see them have the balls to kill off Daenerys and surprise everyone.

Yeah Cersei should've died. As great as Lena is in the role, I'm done with the character. Really don't see the need to have her as the baddie anymore.

Yeah, 1 million lives in Kings Landing and Jon said thats more than the entire North.
Not familiar with fantasy medieval immigration but that means Kings Landing has doubled in population in 20-ish years.

Not sustainable. They need to build a wall.

Then there would be no more war for the iron throne and it would just be living v dead for the final?
Which would been fine if they actually focused on the battle for the throne this season instead of that daft adventure up north. Seriously, think about it, we got four episodes of everyone squabbling over the throne and then basically everything shifted to the white walkers. It was a bit of a mess. This season should've been the battle for the throne, with Cersei going bye bye, and then next season, six episodes vs the dead + incestgate etc.

The problem is they named the show Game of Trones rather than ASoFaI.
They are probably going to finish the show by completing the Game.

Oh for feck sake, they named the show Game of Thrones because A Song of Ice and Fire is too long and less catchy to the audience. You really think they're going "well.. we did name it Game of Thrones, maybe we should build the plot around that, even though that's only the title of the first book."

Yeah.
You do realise they have built the show around that? What percentage has actually been about fighting the Night King?

I can see the argument for that but its a bit neat isnt it? Fight one war, finish it, then move on to the next war. War on two fronts may be messy but then war is messy. I think that might have felt more contrived to be honest.

Yeah.

Well yeah... because the show was a carbon copy of the first four books, and that's what they've focused on.

They've always made it clear that the WW are the ultimate threat.

Maybe, I think I'm just a little disappointed that all the main characters escaped this season unscathed, so easily, too.

Tbh Jaime is probably the best candidate, thinking about it, I mean really, what purpose does he serve anymore? But considering he's probably the best/most liked character in the show now and the writer's clearly don't have the balls GRRM does, I suppose it was never an option.

Even the last 2 seasons that have been past the books have been 90%+ about the Game.
Yeah, because Jon aside, most characters weren't at the wall, until now, coming into the final season. What a coincidence..

90% is also a big stretch. A good chunk of the show has taken place at the wall and further north and that has zero to do with the fight for the throne.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove. If you really think the writer's are more concerned with making sure the show follows its title than writing the plot the way it should be/GRRM told them then.. well.. lolz.

A decent season finale. Some nice stuff here and there but how bad was that the NK was riding the dragon. That's some Disney level shite right there. Uurgh.

Wasn't Mountain on Arya's list? I think Hound meant her when saying to Mountain he knows who's coming for him.
