Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I hope NCW gets plenty of screen time next season. Is it fair to rank him as one of the best performers in the show? He's had moments before, such as his confession to Brienne, where he made the character come to life but his reactions this year during the FoF and his betrayal by Cersei in Episode 7 were pitch perfect.

Looking back, he's played Jaime great throughout the show. From cocky arrogant soldier who appeared to love his reputation as one of Westeros' best fighters, to his world slowly unravelling through imprisonment, mutilation, family loss, PTSD and finally the loss of his one true love.

What will finish season 8 ? The great war or the coronation of the true King ?
I think its the True King/Queen of the Iron Throne. The two main characters are heading North. If either of them survive, then they are the true heir to the Throne hence that battle will come after the Great War. The more they let the WW move South, the harder is it to defeat them.

I'm going to guess a timeline for season 8.

Episode 1
The army of the dead go an unrelenting rampage and kill every living thing in Westeros. All of the main characters are unprepared for them already being south of the wall and are caught cold. End of the episode is the NK sitting on the iron throne.

Episode 2-4
Just watching the travails of the NK trying to rule his people in a foreign land. Maybe a reunion between zombie Bran and zombie Hodor. zombie Arya goes to watch a performance by the actors from Bravos, who arrived in Westeros for their world tour without realising the carnage that went before. The NK, trying to be a just ruler, allows them to finish their scheduled dates before allowing his wights to eat the shit out of them. Zombie Tormund and Zombie Brienne finally get it on. It's not a nice sight and the surrounding wights drop dead. Add 'watching dead Tormund feck dead Brienne' to the list of things that can kill wights.

Episode 5
NK is furiously preparing for the coming summer, which promises to be the hottest of them all. He's stocking up on air freshener, because Westeros is going to stink something rotten. He orders Zombie Bran to build a massive fly net across the South of Westeros and orders Zombie Jon to start recruiting for the Days Watch, who will be armed with fly swatters and will man the length of the fly net.

Episode 6
Robert Baratheon wakes up from his alcohol-induced slumber and tells his small council about the weirdest dream he just had. Jon Arryn rolls his eyes.

Roll credits.

Yeah he's probably the shows most interesting, conflicted character. Hoping he gets a good final arc. I like the idea of him eventually becoming Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.

Jaime trying to murder Daenerys wasn't at all evil though. As far as he's concerned, she's the daughter of a man who burned people alive as a hobby, and the fact that the first time he's encountered her is while she's roasting his men alive on a dragon, with murdering pillagers fighting alongside her, only reinforces that opinion.

Jaime's not perfect but his characters changed drastically from earlier seasons. He genuinely upholds his vow to try and get the Stark children to safety by sending Brienne to find them. He's able to take Riverrun in Season 6 without spilling a lot of blood.

The reason he's fighting alongside Daenerys/Snow now is because he's aware of the undead threat. Something he wasn't aware of a couple of episodes ago.
Killing her because she's his enemy on the field of battle is a good reason. Killing someone because of who their father is is a terrible, immoral reason. As Jon Snow and Daenerys already established.

Don't let D&D see that, or they'll be tempted! :D

The Hound is downright annoying now as well. Are his obscenities and constant foul mood supposed to be humourous? I hope The Mountain caves his face in.
You say this for the episode in which he showed nearly as much warmth as he's possibly capable of when Brienne told him Arya is safe and needs no protection. He almost smiled!

The Hound was nowhere near his best though. He'd been on the road for ages, was starving alot of the time, and he was weakened from infection after that guy had bitten him. From about 0:50ish:

Brienne's record is a little padded TBH:

- Great, hard-fought win vs The Hound but he wasn't at his peak.
- Probably narrowly wins on points vs Jaime, who had been tethered and caked in his own shite for months previously.
- Executes a half-dead Stannis when she's fresh as a daisy.

And recently comes off worse in a sparring session against Arya. I still deeply resent her for fecking with the Hound to be fair.

She beat a fresh Loras Tyrell as well who is a GUN swordsman

Fair point. I'd forgotten about that duel actually. I wasn't being entirely serious with the Brienne trashing - she's a badass fighter of course, but the Hound is my favourite character so I like to think he'd have won that fight if he was 100% fit and healthy.

Banhammer coming.

They're not.

So
Cersei: Ok let's do this. Nah it's off. Lol jk, we are totally doing this. Others: yeey we are doing this. Cersei later : lol jk, bruh.
is a good criticism? I can do that with anything. Oh the red wedding. Let's have a marriage, lol jk we're killing you, oh cat got a knife, jk bruh she dead too lol.

Saying Bran is saying stuff we already know. It's the first time some characters actually found out the truth and are literally saying Jon needs to know. Just because the audience knows doesn't make it a shit scene, we've been waiting for that.

Jon sounding like a TV salesman? I get the joke but it's a bit of a small thing to criticise.

feck 'em Solius, people will criticise any small thing. I don't really come in here now because people either read scripts and pass them off as theories or, as you've just said, criticise the most trivial of things just so they have something to criticise. Saps the fun out of it after a while.

The finale was epic. Viserion is bad ass. Is it wrong I want the White Walkers and the Night King to win? I don't want any of Cersei, Daenerys or Jon (Aegon now?) on the Iron Throne.

And big feck you to Cersei for her treatment of Jaime. I hope he kills her.

I'd watch out if that's even close you will get thread banned. :nono::p

I thought it was alright. It still seems arse backward to bring the living/dead war to the fore just as dany is within touching distance of the crown. It just looks like contrived plot prioritising. I guess the walkers can't swim then. The dwarf joke/riposte was schoolyard awful. The whole parley was awkward but still the Hound Mountain could prove to be fun and the zombie was good. The reunions are quite forced but are the closest thing you get to revealing character portraiture anymore. The dreadful knees to the balls scene was like being kneed in the balls. With the character motivations so shot, none of the little double crossing twists really surprise me anymore. Little Finger's role in the show has been so diminished that his death doesn't mean anything beyond the act itself. The dragons are suffering from the law of diminshing returns a little but still I guess a blue fire breathing dragon is good and the army of the dead could be interesting.

Does Jon's claim now supersede Dany's? That could be an interesting power struggle that the producers are too stupid to navigate.

My real criticism is just how the whole going beyond the wall seemed so contrived in order to give the WW a dragon.

For real? Haven't you come across any mentions of Robert's rebellion yet? Rhaegar was killed by Robert Baratheon at the battle of the Trident.

Jesus I'm a fan of the show, I ain't no authority on bloodlines of each character!! I bow to your knowledge sir, good for you.

It's hilariously bad writing. If they hadn't gone to capture a wight then the night king and his army would be stuck behind the wall for another thousand years.

That was my main gripe. The whole threat of the white walker coming south of the wall makes only sense if only they had another sure way of getting past the wall (or around the wall) but they never mentioned it on the show. Like what would have happpened if Jon didn't go on his stupid expedition. Did the Night King have another solution ?

Maybe cause he touched Bran, the army could have come anyway? Hope they explain that part in the next season.

Ok so explain how I'm giving away spoilers when I haven't read the books. I said I hope they slow the pace down for the next season.

He's on about the bit you put in the spoiler

Even if the Bran arm thing is a viable theory, they would have to enter through the one and only functioning entrance that was at Castle Black. An army of 100,000+ (including giants/mammoths/other beasts) filing through a tiny passage that could hold maybe 4 of them side by side would take weeks, if not months.

Have you read the books?
Not the one in question. It was spoiled for me via random osmosis of social media.

I removed the spoiler from the quote since, you know, it might be an actual spoiler. The way you worded it was a dead giveaway.

Tbf as the guy in charge of stopping the army of the dead from wiping everyone out, Jon would probably have been dropping the ball a bit if he just assumed they wouldn't think of a way around the wall.
