Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I just feel like a lot of the events particularly at the start of this season have just been brushed aside. They could have elongated some of the incidents (Euron, Arya & The Freys, Bran etc) and ended this season with the NK reanimating the dragon for example.
That means Gendry would have run faster to get to the wall. When you think about it, what could have they gotten rid of in order to elongate what you mentioned ?

They wouldn't have to get rid of anything, just slow the pace down a little, and spend more time on other aspects of the story line.

Hmm. That episode was all over the fecking place for me. The show is entertaining, no doubt, but the script is as clunky as you like. That’s been one of my pet peeves since they’ve deviated from the books. Some of the dialogue and plot contrivances have been very poor.

The dialogue between the Hound and Tormund in particular was awful; it was straight out of some terrible buddy cop movie.

I’m not buying this antagonism between Arya and Sansa, either. Not sure if it’s the writing or the acting in this case. I’d probably lean more towards the writing as i actually think Maisie Williams is a good actress. Sophie Turner not so much, but she’s fine. I’m just really not convinced by it.

Also, come on - only one person dying from the magnificent seven that went out on this “suicide mission” Nah, that’s nonsense. Tormund could have gone. Or the Hound. Or even Jorah. Hell, even all three of them. But only Thoros? Not having it.

There were some cool aspects of the episode, of course. I always love seeing the White Walkers, and the Night King in particular as he’s my favourite character in the show, bizarrely enough. I’ve said this before, but i really want him to win this whole damn thing ‘cause he’s so bad ass.

And, of course, the resurrected dragon. No matter how cynical i sometimes felt during this episode, that brought a smile to my face that i couldn’t contain. They have a dragon!!

I just feel like Game of Thrones is becoming like any other tv show on at the moment, though. The unpredictability of it is what made it so good. Now, it’s all becoming a little too contrived. Still expertly made and entertaining, but just very different.

I agree with all this. The bolded part is a particularly good point. I reckon there are some pretty limited actors in this show, but nothing so bad that it couldn't be managed with good scripting, editing and direction. I think the people at the helm of this thing are really hanging some of the performers out to dry.

Sansa's actor is no Hepburn or Taylor but I don't think we'd have got an effective Joffrey if a flatout bad actor was playing opposite him.

 oh look, the theories are back. Funny how they happen now, after leaks and reddit threads.

fecking sad cases

I was browsing r/asoiaf the other day and a thread about the leaked episode (before it aired but after I'd watched it) and I read a comment from someone I subsequently suspected had read the leaked script in response to the possible Snow-Daenerys romance. He/she had just posted a one-sentence comment and included a hashtag, which I believe will come to fruition.
Wait until #boatsex in E08

Normally I wouldn't have opened that, but since many are being pathetic fb/twitter style wankers in here now, I'm not surprised. I'm even less suprised he's passing this off in here as 'his' theory.

Yeah, good post.

  1. Where was this vision/dream with the throne room covered in snow you guys keep bringing up? Which episode and whose dream was it?
  2. Did Dany ever previously say she couldn't have kids? Was this a result of complications from her previous pregnancy?

Speaking of dreams/visions. Apparently this was foreshadowing for what happened to Viserion;

You can hear a dragon coo in the background in the last 45 seconds or so - and of course everybody present in this dream had passed away.

What on Earth are you withering on about? I never said it was my theory. I read it online, and double-spoilered it in my post.

In hindsight, after the set-up in E06 and E07, it's obvious something will happen.

P.S. The only people in this thread behaving like 'wankers', to use your eloquent term, are the über-defensive ones about the show. Maybe open a 'pro-GoT discussion only' thread if critiques offend you so much.

You misunderstood me my friend. I was replying to you, so the 'he' part clearly meant the other poster. So it renders what you've just said null. Why so angry anyway?

As for your last paragraph, that's utter bullshit. The rules in here are clear, it's childish to keep ruining things for people and especially sad that some want to pass off what they've read as their own theory. But hey, it's amusing too as there's a little go between of the guys who have read things and are talking to each other like they haven't.

Maybe they're hoping that whenever their "theories" happen, they'll got a few quotes of "Nice guess, dude!"

More likely to be "Spoiling cnut." though.

It is entertaining though. Especially the ones who write long arse posts based on them

I get the feeling not all of these people have read the scripts. However, when a question is asked, people google and read about probable explanations(most likely scripts) and later on consciously or subconsciously pass these as their theories.

 I'd read no more though, twats are ruining ep 7 in there.

But yeah, it was an enjoyable episode. You have to agree though, the great plan was straight out of Rick Grimes playbook.

Step 1: Come up with decent plan.
Step 2: execute plan is most stupid way possible.
Step 3: Panic when plan inevitably starts to fail.
Step 4: Barely escape whilst some die.
Step 5: Come to the realisation you've just made things feckloads worse now.

Still. Blue dragon!

One thing that came to mind watching the episode again, do you think there'll be some payoff to the whole Hound and fire situation? Again they made a big point about him freezing in the face of it. I wonder if there will turn out to be something actually behind it, or if it was just used as a device to get thoros killed.

I said last episode the plan was utterly ridiculous writing. I've come to accept the awful nature of the writing and just go with it, I got all my moaning out during Season 5 with the Sand Snakes and the terrible rescue attempt of Theon. I knew the writers weren't going to be up to the task. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I'm assuming the people who really do moan are book readers and go around reading every theory. I've avoided all spoilers and most of the theories and loving this season.

Thanks for the heads up though. I got to page 3 and couldn't take much more. :p

They are in here now, like a plague

It's best you don't read these latest theories!

This must be the most frustrating thread to moderate.

heck, weve still had people mention book stuff this season and what theyve read online (im sure the leak was discussed before it was aired as well). :wenger:

Oh believe me, I haven't clicked on a spoiler since the leaks were announced. I probably already have a few of them on ignore.

The sad cnuts aren't even bothering to use spoilers now

People can't be adults. It's ridiculous that we are all supposed to be over the age of 14, yet since the beginning simple rules are not understood. Now we have people trying to be prophets and discussing theories that they might as well be discussing on the places they've taken them from! And for what? Is life so pathetic you need maybe an odd prop on a forum of strangers?

It's both brilliant and tragic!

I think ive read nearly everything in this thread but thankfully I cant remember a lot (though ill probably remember it if / when it happens in the show).
i am kinda tempted to go back after the season finishes and have a look esp those who are spot on with specific details @Redlambs

Don't click on spoilers. Simple.

I don't and I don't run the risk of having something ruined for me. I also avoid this thread until I've watched the latest episode (leaked or otherwise), yet some folk seem to have trouble in that regard.

 It'll give you something to do in the break between seasons I guess!

It's not that simple. Some people here for whatever reason want to act all touchy about spoilers. Yesterday I posted something like "I want to see the trailer for next episode that aired on HBO when it comes out again on YouTube" and within a matter of seconds someone wanted me put that discussion in spoilers because that person didn't want to watch it for the fear of our getting spoiled.

I mean discussing something which aired on HBO is frowned upon. Why do we even have this thread then?:wenger:

I still think what they should have done last episode. Was have Sam find something out at the citadel that forced Jons hand to go North of the wall. A weapon location, some kind of magic, something that if the white walkers got hold of would result in them being too strong. This would have led Jon north to do the heroic self sacrifice, to destroy it before the white walkers could get/find it. Could even be an old burial ground and the idea was to try and burn the bodies before the Night King could raise them.

They'd have a similar set piece as in this episode but instead of Daenerys flying to the rescue it would be the Dragons coming by themselves. Exactly how Drogon flew to Daenerys aid in the fighting pits. The idea being that when the Dragon feels that a Targaryen is in trouble, it will come to their aid. We've seen this happen throughout Game of Thrones. It would also then result in a Dragon dying, but Daenerys would then blame Jon for its death. Forgetting the whole "for the greater good".

That would nullify the whole need of blacksmith running back, crow to daenerys etc. It would also make us realise that Dragons have free will and aren't simply Daenerys pets and it would also bring up some much needed conflict between Jon and Daenerys given that she had no say in them flying off to help Jon.

I think ive read nearly everything in this thread but thankfully I cant remember a lot (though ill probably remember it if / when it happens in the show).

Agreed. We can then tear them from limb to limb.

It's in the OP rules.

"All future spoilers (talk about trailers, casting, etc.must not be posted at at all. Ever)"

Are we really at a point where it's the people who follow the rules who are to blame?

And not everyone posts in spoilers either, as we keep seeing.

UK viewers aren't considered with this 'aired episodes only' lark, however. Sky Atlantic telecast the latest season but how many actually stay up until 2am to watch it live? Very, very few I'd imagine. The '9pm on Monday' UK viewers don't come into this thread on Monday mornings and afternoons and start demanding that all talk cease until they get to watch the episodes.

It's all very weird.

We've had this war for 7 years. Reason some of us are touchy is because we've had idiots spoil us in the past. It's like a never ending war.

Spoilers are the enemy. The first enemy and the last. The enemy always wins and we still need to fight him.

Not to mention the people who have read the leaks. The whole point is this thread is spoiler free, yet some people still don't get it. It was better when Cina would ban anyone who even remotely suggested the notion of spoilers. Need to stamp on them quickly.

TBF, its not weird at all. Id say 90% follow the rules that have been established. Im just surprised that people cant 7 seasons / years on. Id rather not be spoiled. Id rather people not read leaks and then claim it as their speculation. Id rather trailers not be posted in this thread.
I enjoy speculation however but its hard to see what is from leaks and what isnt when you havent read the leaks yourself. From some of the posters on here, theyve mentioned theyve read it and can tell straight away who has and is making their own speculation based on that. Thats annoying.

Someone's answered your first question to I'll field the second one.

When Daenerys attempted to use blood magic to rescue Drogo, the witch performing the ceremony killed Daenerys' unborn son to do it, and rendered her infertile in the process.

No it's not. In past seasons when I cared, I'd stay out of this thread between the time differences.

That is a world of difference between those few hours to avoid legit talk and the idiots who try to ruin everything. I used to stay off facebook and twitter when it comes to GoT and I never read those reddit threads, but I didn't have to avoid here because of clearly defined rules. Why should it then be my fault if some sad case wants to ruin it by getting involved in a genuine discussion whilst passing off leaked info as their own genuine opinions?

Yep. I really don't get what's so hard to understand about this

Bad decision that. But is it confirmed that she is infertile? If thats the case instead of losing one thing she lost all three.

Yeah exactly. There's been quite a stark (pun intended) difference in the show ever since they've deviated from the book. The show still looks amazing and is extremely well made, it's just the script that is letting it down. Look at what has happened to Littlefinger as an even better example of this.

I still do like the show, though. It just set such high standards over the years that the flaws in it now are even more pronounced.
