Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Too many of you guys seem like you've read spoilers or theories based on spoilers tbh.

There's been no mention at all that Rhaegar had married Lyanna until this episode. I think I mentioned it last season after the reveal that there was a likely scenario that they did get married but only ever a theory. But certainly wasn't clear as day.
Nope. Definitely new information.

We seemed to jump from one set piece to another. Odd pacing but it seems that will be how this will be in the final stretch. A couple of observations. observations:

For all the mad skills Arya has, she still cannot match the lord of intrigue, Littlefinger himself. It seems that she might inadvertendly set into motion what will trigger the Northern lords stripping Jon of his kingship and passing to Sansa (who looks uneasy as it is).

And the little reveal of Jon being a legit Targaryen was pretty sweet. Not that Samwell was paying any attention though. I wonder how long before Jon finds out though.

The Expendables got all together at the end. That's some serious fighting power, although having Gendry there is a bit odd.

Come on man. Thats the whole way this show has been going. Its just a guess at the end of the day but an educated one at that. I mean there is no way they are going to show us all that about Rhaegar, Lyanna and Jon last season only for him to go from being one man's bastard to another's man bastard? Makes no sense that way. This way it also adds to drama to the show because of who is the rightful heir to the throne.

They just tried to murder you and you are still letting them live. Thats the main difference between the 2 queens. I said KL because she is giving this live or die thingy to just the soldiers not the entire city of KL.

Well lets be clear about the course of events. She attacked them, and they defended themselves. She took them prisoner, and she threatened to kill them unless they bent the knee to her. Tyrion told her that was a bad idea and to do literally anything else, and she ignored him. She then burns the Tarly's alive, making Tyrion visibly uneasy. Later we have a scene where Tryion is drinking and trying to justify what Dany did to Varys who responds by stating that he used to do the same mental gymnastics when he was advising the Mad King drawing an obvious parallel between the actions of the two.

So it takes a bit of a mental disconnect to argue 'they were trying to kill me' as an excuse. Especially as we have seen her be absolutely brutal on those that have tried to kill her in the past: I don't recall her offering the Sons of the Harpys a 'choice'.

All in all its a bit of a weird argument. The show was utterly unambiguous in what they were trying to show, and it was a rare example of character development for a character who is often criticised for being presented as white as the driven snow. It was Dany clearly struggling with the realities of war vs the ideal of what she would like to be as a ruler. So to throw that all away to argue the point that another bit of the story isn't badly written after all is a bit of a shame.

I don't think it was that obvious at all. It put into perspective all of Neds interactions and made the whole Catelyn storyline rather tragic. Also meant Jon had Targ blood in him, which would prove useful with Dragons. I actually think I prefer it that he's a bastard than the rightful heir myself. It's an unnecessary complication.

Nor did I, but then I don't spend much time theorising about Game of Thrones.

I just assumed the significance was that he was a Targ, bastard or not. If they hadn't revealed he was legitimate then the storyline would've been just as acceptable.

Was Eastwatch even in that episode???
The only thing I can think of is Brain controlling those ravens, was that where they flew over/past to see the army of the dead? I watched the episode this morning and my brain is scrambled so I may be wrong.

EDIT: Ffs his name is not Brain. I have brain on the brain.

Brain, Brian, Beean... whoever he is. I think you are right

*Fanboi klaxon*
Not really. I'm pretty sure I've criticised/critiqued her acting before in this thread.

I think she's a decent actress but there have been so many brilliant actors in roles such as hers, leaders, kings, queens, heads of houses (Robert, Tywin, Cersei, Olenna, Ned, Roose etc) on the show that she possibly stands out as weak in comparison.

She's not even close to "omg worst eva" like you're saying.

Yeah. That's where they went North of the Wall from.
Eastwatch by the sea? Where was the sea?

Well if she gets paid more than cersei or even Arya, she is grossly overpaid.
Nah

I mean firstly, apparently the top 5 actors all get the same amount. I'm guessing that's Danny, Snow, Cersei, Tyrion and Jamie... but who knows. Oh and it's £2million, not $1.1m

Secondly, those actors are now big stars in their own rights. They will walk into film role's now which they struggled to get before. Arya is a kid, not a massive star. She won't get big film contracts.

Where they got off their boat?

Eastwatch was the castle they all met to then go beyond the wall.

 good point. Why didn't they just sail beyond the wall?

Oh to meet up with the wildlings!!!!

Gotcha

Doesn't include the latest teleportation activity from this weeks episode. The white walkers are the black lines in the North

Eastwatch is BY the sea.

Watch the episode again where Jon Asked Tormund to go to the wall. He asked him to go to Eastwatch. Then look at the gate they went through and the gate that Bran came back through. In the scene with the Brother's looking into the fire they say they are going to Eastwatch.

The complete my point

Tormund is at Eastwatch. Tormund is there when they go through the wall.

The Brother's were going to Eastwatch the Brother's were there.

The Gate they go through is not the Gate at Castle Black.

They were at Eastwatch.

Bran didnt arrive at Eastwatch. He came through Castle Black because Eddison opened the gates for him and he is the Lord Commander at Castle Black.

I know I'm saying that the gate the go through is not the one that Bran came through which was Castle Black.

"Thought you might still be rowing"

Good episode, setting up the last 2 episodes & the possible unholy alliance between factions to battle the dead.

Bronn & the Hound need their own spin-off show. fecking legends.

Littlefinger is a cnut.

I must say, I find it mind-boggling that they recast the Night King to an actor with such distinct facial differences. I get distracted by it almost every time he's on the screen. Liked the look of the previous one much better.

Add Tormund too.

Maybe one of the white walkers specializes in facial surgery ?

They seem very happy to recast people in this show. The Mountain, Myrcella, Tommen (even though the new actor had already played a different character in the show), Beric, Dickon, the three eyed Raven, the main Children of the Forest lady, etc. In fact the COTF underwent a total redesign between seasons.

That's not counting all the recasting they did after the initial pilot was shot.

Another good episode, excellent season so far. Only negative is I find the whole 'lets go north of the wall to find a wight' plan a bit shit.
