Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Can someone remind me about the significance of the dagger Littlefinger gave Bran?

That dagger was actually the one greyworm used to kill the two masters. Legend has it greyworm is brans dad.

Yeah they made sure we knew that the gold was safe. So the bank still gets paid off. But now with much of the food wiped out, will Queen C need to borrow from the bank to buy food to feed the people or will she just go ahead with her plan to buy some mercenaries.

So what are her plans for the Golden Company? Use them against the North while keeping her own army close? Have them attack Dragonstone hoping to take out Dany and Tyrion? Maybe they have some experience against the Dothraki so they can help counter them?
Thought Mycroft said that the Iron Bank will be more than willing to loan Cersei the money needed, if the outstanding payment was made. Basically, if she increases her credit score the Bank will loan further money. He also said that they have contacts with the Golden Company and could help Cersei with the introductions required. Havent watched it since Friday so am a bit hazy about what exactly Mycroft said regarding the Golden Company.

Who used it and how did LF get it?

Edited my response to already include the answer to the first question.

Cat brought it to Kings Landing where LF identified it and what with all the death of Starks in KL which followed shortly after, he just kept it for himself in case it could come in handy later on.

Loved the sad version of the Reins of Castamere playing whilst Tyrion watches the battle. The music throughout that last 15 minutes was fantastic.
Naturally, I had to youtube Rains of Castamere, and I stumbled across this epic gem... If anyone has 4 mins, check it out

Yeah she did say she needed funding and that is why I am asking will she need to borrow to do both or have to chose just one option? Probably the bank will be willing to let her do both if she chooses.

But the real question is where does she intend to aim the Golden Company?

Seeing her army obliterated might change that though. Or at least it should.

At the time when she is speaking with Mycroft, she is probably expecting the food reserves from Reach to come along with the gold. She doesn't know that the Dany has burned down the food train.

So if she dons the crazy hat, I guess she would use the loan money to hire the Golden Company and use them to attack the North, as that seems to be only region which has decent food reserves and which is not under her control. All this is assuming she has used all her resources to collect the food supplies from Westerlands, Crownlands, Stormlands & Riverlands. Going by the pace at which the show is going, I doubt we will see much discussion about which regions have sent food supplies and which regions haven't

Not sure that was all of the army. Jamie did mention that the army was spread thin before the attack occurred. Also they've got the Kings Guard which I imagine is a few thousand. So they've probably still got a pretty hefty army left. We also don't know if all of the Wildfire was used, so they might even have some of that knocking about.

Didn't she say she was going to take something back that belonged to her?
Could only mean Casterly Rock, right? Mercs vs mercs...or, ex-mercenaries in regards to the Unsullied I suppose...

You mean the City Watch?

Good episode. Enjoyed the battle. A step in the right direction.

Is it me that sees the strong parallels in what Jon is doing with Daenerys and what Mance Rayder did with Stannis? Also thought it was a funny little comment when he said he "didn't have time for that" in regards to sexing up Daenerys when rewind back to Season 2, Rob Stark had more than enough time to romance during war time and he ended up... dead.

Yep, especially the whole pride vs ego thing (and pride vs saving your people).

Call me pedantic but it really bothered me that Dany went into battle with zero armor. Sure a helmet might ruin your pretty hair, but you're riding on the back of the every archer's target...

I was thinking this. but then again, all shes known is sitting on a dragon and lighting up every MFer on the way with her dragon only taking damage in s5 I believe (when it was smaller and younger). Shes so small on the back of a dragon and its so fast, its wiping out most things before they get a chance. (and from such a height).

Now I could be picky about the fact that no important died but that was such a good scene that I don't have the heart to not pick.

TBF, theres only 2 important people there in the battle, Dany and Jamie.
Then 'lesser' important people like Bronn, Dickon and father Tarly. Rest were just a bunch of faces.

Why did no one mention arranging a marriage between Jon and Dany? If I remember correctly she was going to marry someone back in Slaver's bay just to secure one city and Jon could potentially give her the entire north without a battle. Imho Tyrion should've at least brought it up - instead of all the heavy handed "hints" we got instead.

And why is Littlefinger still in the north? He's just chilling there making omnious faces while the Starks take turn threatening him, it's about time the writers find something to do with him, that quote from Bran alone should've been enough to cause LF to either flee or get rid of him, I can't believe someone as calculating as him would just chill there waiting for Bran to find the real stuff.

Maybe Danys the one thats hinting it. bend the knee... propose. LOL

I just assumed she was talking about the Seven Kingdoms in general.

That was intense. My favourite scene probably lasted all of 5 seconds, just before Jaime's charge on Dany, he sees the ashes of his men blowing in the wind, was so poignant. Fantastic battle, had it all, the drama, "epicness", the horror, especially the Lannister men being burned alive in their suits, trying to remove bits of armour whilst desperately trying to make it to the lake.

Matt Shakman may have elevated himself to Miguel Sapochnik levels, that was, in my opinion, Hardhome esque.

What is the Golden Company anyway? Is that the army that Stannis bought some of when he went to the Iron Bank?

Sell swords but the Golden Company is a bit different as they are mostly made of Westerosi exiles since the time of the mad king who all want to return home.

yes that is why I asked IF it will change her plans NOW that the food has been wiped out. See cause and effect, burning the food might change some plans previously mentioned.

Randall Tarly is probably the worst character for me in that episode, all his scenes are just trying to show him off as some genius battle commander, when in truth the smart thing to do would be flee and save as many lives as possible. You're in an open field against an army who all they do is ride horses on open fields, and a dragon.

Also, i'm just rewatching the battle again. There seems to be a feck load of Lannisters. There's a shot with the Dothraki charging down the hill and you can see a long line of soliders by the lake that seems to stretch a fair distance. So i'd say there's a few thousand there.

The landscape is fecking beautiful to look at. Such a beautiful shot.

Bronn: "Get back to Kings Landing"
Jamie: "I'm not abandoning my army"
Bronn: "You're the commander not a damn infantry man, those feckers are about to swamp us."
Jamie: "We can hold them off"
Drogon: "Like feck you can, scccccccreeeeech"

So seems like it was pretty much the entire army we saw last episode.

Didnt they line up not knowing what was coming? They had no clue the dragon was coming until ... it appeared (hence Jamie telling Bronn they can stop them).

Don't click on the book thread, InfiniteBoredom read the leaks and is discussing them. Moron.

So he reads the leaks and complains. Then watches the show and complains. Crazy stuff.
Anyway, did what RedSky did so thanks for the heads up :) Surprised he wasnt on here complaining that Dothraki are based on zulu warriors and they dont really fight like that and their handling of horses and weapons brings a shame on this world or some shit.

Anyway My speculation for what will happen:

Jamie is stopped from drowning and held as a captive (Third time in the series lol) to maybe draw out Cersei and the remaining army.
News travels to Cersei who instead of doing anything goes about her stuff to remain as Queen.
Jamie is aided to escape by Tyrion (tit for tat).
Jamie returns to KL and is the one to end up killing Cersei?
I do wonder if he becomes Queen Slayer if hes in charge (new King?) And ends up doing a rushed deal with Tyrion / Dany / Jon?

I think bronn called it pretty well, he told Jamie to flee because they were about to be swamped. Minus the dragon, it's still a victory for dothraki in a field.

Why didn't she take all 3 dragons? I assume it's because it wasn't necessary, and by only having one it puts more emphasis on showcasing just how powerful one dragon is to the audience. I suppose I'm asking because if you're going to war with already depleted forces, surely you'd want all 3 dragons to minimise infantry losses.

Oh I agree, but that was still after they had lined up. All they heard was noise, so they lined up to defend. They did mention if one end of the army gets attacked, the other wouldnt have time to help, so it seemed the best thing they could do. The dragon just destroyed everything though  Not sure id blame Randall Tarly for lining them up.

Aye maybe not.

He's a bit of a cnut. Wonder if he ever noticed his sword missing.

If you turn your back on Ghengis Khan-level cavalry you're gonna have a bad time.
