Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Yeah think it's dawned on him that these new Starks aren't like the old ones, and he might be in over his head with them.
Yeah.

Also, it was a nice parallel with an earlier episode where he tells prepare for very thing that can happen so you are not surprised and now he realises that he has not considered that one of the stark children would have magical powers.

I don't think he quite realises that fact yet. His face after Bran's quip about chaos being a ladder was telling in the fact that he looked slightly confused but he knew that what he said.

A LOT of horses and carriages got burned in that battle. Slight speculation below, but nothing all that bad.

I seem to remember that the Tyrells supplied King's Landing with food as a part of their alliance. If the carriages were loaded to the brim with food, like Jaime alluded to a couple of episodes ago (starving out the Unsullied fram Casterly Rock), does that mean that famine will be the end of the people of King's Landing? General Tarly also mentioned that they were collecting crops from nearby farms to bring back to the capital. But it all got burned to the ground. Queen Cnutsie may have all the gold in the world, but if her remaining army and the people of the city starve to death there's no way she'll last long. Unless the Iron Bank can provide some fish tacos, of course.
Hmmm...so Tyrion's strategy might be redeemed after all? It's weird how they've been painting him a fool.

Similar to how they've been bigging up Cercie seemingly just so that her inevitable fall might seem more dramatic than it deserves. Best not to overthink it, I presume...

Episode 5 preview:

Queen Dany finally going mad? Seems hell bent on conquering, revenge, death and for everyone to bend the knee and submit to her rule. Varys and Tyrion - and presumably Jon after THAT greeting by Drogon - certainly suspects that something isn't right with her atm.

Ok cleaned some stuff up including a mistake of my own. Can people not say 'can confirm' in future please even when it's just your opinion. Odd thing to say anyway.

You have my word.

Can't the dragons sense Targs? I thought Jon would get a warmer welcome from the dragons, considering he's one of them.

she doesn't have any gold now.

So, are they that limited on special effects even with a shortened season that they can only afford one dragon? It's been shown before that the dragons don't need a rider like Dany to go into battle. Seems odd...unless the other two are currently roasting Euron's fleet...

Qalso, is it just a given that Arya will kill Littlefinger with that dagger? The foreshadowing is a bit heavy handed if so. Makes me think there will be some random twist, unless the writing's gone completely to shit.

What is so difficult about this to understand

Jamie gets captured and we some sparks between him and Dany? Jamie and Bron eventually turn?

Showrunners are just taking the piss now with seeing how much ground they can cover in a single episode. I understand that we're coming down the homestretch but ffs! This episode alone had enough material to easily fill an entire season from previous years.

Just a few thoughts, since I know you're eagerly anticipating them:
  • Poor Meera. Been dragging that lifeless oaf halfway around the continent and doesn't even get friends with benefits status.
  • The Starks are OP. The look on Littlefinger's face watching Arya...
  • Jon should've been an inch or two taller. The trout shoulders don't help either.
  • How fortunate were they casting youth, not knowing Sansa would turn into a majestic woman and Arya's diminutive stature making her super ninja skills all that more fantastic?
  • LoL at Davos' crush on Missandei.
  • Maybe he'll be a male surrogate to give Grey Worm and her a child? Give him his dues, he's been putting up with a lot of shit.
  • The battle scene was great. I don't know who directed this episode, but I hope they get another chance. Jamie looking over his shoulder at storm clouds over the plains...the brutality of the flames...the Mongol references...so much muchness.

The scene with Missandrei between Jon and Davos.. When Davos goes on the whole he's king in the north speech, Jon stops him.. Does it mean Jon might have bent the knee in the cave as only he and Dany were around, and davos doesn't know?

A good Stark reunion, without Bran giving anyone PTSD!

The battle at the end.. I thought both the dragon and Bronn were going to take each other out:nervous:

I've made a terrible mistake. Rushed to watch this episode on Sky Go and it was a blurry buffering piece of shit. What a waste of new GoT, might as well have not watched it and had it spoiled instead. Livid.

Man, I hope Qyburn hasn't put poison on the end of those scorpion bolts. The cnut.

Other than that, fecking amazing episode. I'm even willing to look past the fact that a massive Dothraki army teleported to the middle of Westeros at the drop of a hat.

Unfortunately due to the departure from the books, the speed with which people are moving from one part of the continent to another within a single episode forces you to suspend disbelief. Not such a big deal in general but GoT has been good at this for the most part - now they seem to be everywhere in an instant, hard to really accept that tbh

What do the runes in the caves in Dragonstone symbolize? We've seen that spiral and line through circle shape before, where the Night King left dead bodies.

I've been fairly down on the show of late

That was probably one of the best ever episodes

Also I can recommend watching GOT at 8am on a bank holiday Monday

That scene, looks to me danny is about to rape john, and who knows danny wants something else when john bends his kness.

There's lust tension in that cave for sure

Jon Snow knows how to get lucky while in caves, that's for sure.

Why? I hope he has. That dragon just killed hundreds of men. A dragon needs to die, otherwise Daenerys is basically untouchable and there's no doubt about the outcome of the war.

Hope I'm not the only one up for the Lannisters

They're the underdogs now, I reckon a few people will have turned to their side. I'm not so much pro-Lannister so much as I am anti-Daenarys right now. So atm I am hoping the Lannisters win by default of them being Daenarys' enemies. That'll probably change in the future though no doubt.

The music and sound during that scene was incredible. The rumbling of the horde getting closer and the shreek of the dragon, goosebumps. Awesome episode.

Yeh, good point. That would make the weapon much more effective than what it was in its current state. I hope thats not the case. But I cant imagine Drogon going, if thats a dragon that goes down.

Also thats one of the things of War eh? Not a fan of Dothraki cos they are savages and we dont know much about them. But theyre with Dany who is essentially taking out the Lannisters. But I was hoping Bronn and Jamie would survive. But at the same time, I was rooting for the dragon to take out the Lannisters army.

Speaking of which, that was the majority of the Lannisters army right? They had a small portion slaughtered by the Unsullied. But pretty much every other marched on Highgarden. So some split into KL with the gold? And others were going to take some to Iron Bank. But how much else do Lannisters have?

Jamie gets captured and we some sparks between him and Dany? Jamie and Bron eventually turn?

Dany really is a mad queen to fall in love with somebody that murdered her father.

At this point it's pretty clear that Cersei and Euron are going to get reamed like there's no tomorrow, and as such the war against the Lannisters is just an obstacle they need to get past before the end of the story which, as far as I can tell, is going to be Daenerys and the Starks uniting Westeros to fight the White Walkers. I can't make sense of the Lannisters being a part of that. Cersei would rather die than concede the throne, which makes any alliance with Dany impossible. Not that it would be likely anyway. In addition, Cersei gives zero fecks about the White Walkers and is unlikely to do so, since the only people who are preparing to fight them are her biggest enemies.

I'm hoping all three dragons outlive the Lannisters. The end fight needs to be as epic as possible and three dragons makes it more epic than one or two dragons. We don't know what The Night King is capable of. He might have some tricks up his sleeve to make the dragons less powerful or even turn them against Dany, so it's not like they're a guaranteed cheat code to beat the entire game.

Looking at the map of Westeros, its conceivable that the Dothraki could have got from Dragonstone to the Lannister army before they made it back to Kings Landing from Highgarden, especially as it was mentioned that the Lannister men weren't in much of a rush.
