Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

There's also the shock value of the attack. It seems like ages when watching it, but in real time even they would have been in a panicky state.

Maybe he is poisoned but it's a slow acting one that will take effect later. Maybe he is immune to that particular poison. Not worth getting worked up about.

I just think his character is very 'Gary Stu' the poison was the least of my complaints about him. It's just the one that people have picked up on.

Fair enough. You don't have to like every aspect of the show, to actually like the show overall. I'm indifferent myself, but I can definitely see where you're coming from with the Jack Sparrow parallel. It is very pirates-esque in that regard.

I was kinda hoping Theon when he jumped over the ship, would have landed into a rowing boat.

Oh hi, im Gendry.
Theon: ROW, ROW, ROW!!!

That could have potentially been one of the greatest moments in TV history.

Some people are very touchy about that bit though. You will have to like everything or stop watching it. :wenger:

Reading the impressions on Euron on the ASOIAF sub reddit, hes been praised by most.

He was considered a huge let down last season by book readers.

Personally, I thought his debut on the rope bridge in season six was brilliant, then his following apperances were dull as feck.

Season seven Euron, i like. Hes psychotic charisma is hard to dislike.

"You've been making pies?"
"One or two."

Heh.

On a side note, Arya and Danaerys changed their character A LOT his episode. They both seem like different people from previous episodes.

Oh. It's only just clicked. The reason Tyrion mentioned Myrcella was to remind the audience of her murder. Ellaria is the 'gift'. That's also why such a big thing was made out of killing the Sand Snakes. The Iron Islanders will sail into King's Landing with them on the bow.

Euron knew that Yara and Theon would end up on Dragonstone, so probably had scouts planted there to keep a watch on them.

Wasn't a fan of that Arya line. Too many wise cracks since last season, it's getting a bit Hollywood.

Felt like a standard setting the stage episode until the last ten minutes, which were great. Nice to see the Sand Snakes gotten rid of too.

The war of the seven kingdoms does feel a bit meh now though, considering we know ultimately it's going to be Westeros Vs White Walkers.

I'm not so sure anymore. Quite an important point I noted in the last episode is when Jon said something along the lines that he is the only one who has seen what is coming. I mean even the learned bunch don't necessarily believe in their existence.

So basically it's the night's watch and Bran to convince everyone to join together? Cersei isn't going to go with it. And Daenarys... who really knows.

My God that scab/pus/pie transition

Loved this episode. The pace was much more to my liking and didn't really have a problem with anything that happened.

The Arya / Wolf scene was great and was a throwback to the earlier seasons. I hope AryanManUtdFan goes to Winterfell whilst John isn't around as Arya vs Sansa and LF could be amazing.

Was there a character called Dickon in that episode?

Yeah he was mistaken for Richard something. I couldn't decide if it was a badly told nob gag or if even that level of wit would be beyond the writers' capabilities

I agree about not watching shows you think are bad, I watched three Westworlds and gave up. The problem here is that I think four out of the first five seasons were darn good telly overall, that created charaters and storylines worth investing in. It's only now become a bad investment that is proving hard to shift.

Hmmmm.
Sansa sends LF a "meet me in my chamber" message, LF thinking he is going to finally get some of that fine Stark lady bits, shows up with a jug of wine and a rose between his teeth. Sansa lures him over to the bed, sits him down, lowers her head into his lap, suddenly his look of joy turns to screams of horrific pain. He looks down to see Sansa holding his cock in one hand, while she pulls back her mask with the other revealing Arya. LF falls back on the bed, while Arya, since joined by the real Sansa, smile and watch him bleed to death.

For most of the show I thought the White Walkers were a metaphysical idea representing the vanity of man and his will to power. I like the idea of winter as a manifestation of an all consuming entropic death. But I guess they are a real thing now and we're just going to have to brawl it out with dragonglass. Antonius Block checkmating Death.

Did you study English lit or something? Tits + dragons my friend, tits + dragons.

This is a TV show in which there are dragons, people get brought back from the dead, people can see into the past, there are giants, magic spells, zombies and a fat man can travel hundreds of miles on foot without losing weight. Yet you find the speed they build boats makes it hard to take seriously!

I haven't bothered to read through all the comments, but I'll answer/explain some of the things people in here didn't seem to like:

1. Why didn't Melisandre tell them about Jon Snow's resurrection?
She's become more used to the Westerosi. Think about it for a second: she just dropped a massive bomb(white walkers + prophecy) to a suspicious crowd. The only reason they chose to believe her, is basically because Tyrion seems to trust Jon Snow. If she were to bring up the resurrection as well, which is easily the most incredible story, then they might have completely dismissed her. Also, let's not forget that her character changed a lot after Stannis' failure. She talks a lot less now.

2. Prince/Princess?
I honestly don't see what was so stupid about this part? In a patriarchy it makes complete sense that they would choose 'prince' over 'princess', despite Valyrian having the same word for both.

3. Why hasn't Jon Snow been informed about Bran?
The different storylines follow different timelines. Bran arriving at Castle Black could very well have happened several months after Jon Snow left Winterfell.

4. Euron's stealth?
Yeah, that was a bit stupid. But this "sin" seems to happen in almost all TV series and movies, so I'll just cut GoT some slack here. For dramatic effect and story progression, this was a way better solution than to use nearly an entire episode on a battle where no major character(seemingly) dies.

Good episode.

I wonder how Theon's arc is going to play out over these last dozen or so episodes. Bailing on his sister is a bit of a character setback.

I think Game of Thrones is suffering from its fandom becoming hypercritical.

There's plenty to dislike in the first few seasons and it's entirely probable that if those episodes aired now they'd be torn apart for similar reasons to the new ones.

Every TV show ever asks you to suspend your disbelief at times, and Game of Thrones is better than most at avoiding that, but I can't believe that people really enjoy hypercritically tearing apart plot details, or in some cases inventing 'mistakes', to then spend the next week between episodes arguing about just how much that mistake spoilt their enjoyment of the show.

It wasn't a nob joke. Dickon is a legitimate name in ASOIAF. Jaime said "Rickon, is it?" when talking to Randyll Tarly and his son.

Its a silly name though.

Good episode, I quite enjoyed it.

I thought that Danny and Jon may initially get off on the wrong foot but there's just not enough time for that shit. Especially with Euron gaining momentum and drawing first blood.

Interesting predicament, Jon is currently going to ask for men and dragon glass from Danny, who will have lost a chunk of her army thanks to Euron's attack and be just as desperate for reinforcements in her battle.

3. Why hasn't Jon Snow been informed about Bran?
The different storylines follow different timelines. Bran arriving at Castle Black could very well have happened several months after Jon Snow left Winterfell.

Not to mention, who actually at Castle Black is capable of sending a message? Like seriously who there knows about ravens, how to use them, or even how to write

I did like how Dumbo says "But I guess they are a real thing now" as if Walkers just suddenly appeared. Then again, I can never tell the tone of a message on here and how sarcastic or dry one can be :)

Also I agree about Euron. I thought his debut seemed good, but then that scruffy bastard was boring. Its like hes born again this season with a balls to the wall approach you would expect from a mad pirate.

The whole Euron Greyjoy plot is leaving me cold. Building a thousand ships in a short period of time is impossible. It took anywhere from 2 to five years to build 1 Galleon back in the 18th century imagine how long it would take to build 1000.

Next The Greyjoy's are basically pirates sailing the seas in search of merchant ships avoiding conflict with the Kings Fleet yet they didn't have one lookout to spot a fleet of a thousand ships sneaking up on them.

Him jumping down from the ship and bouncing around killing everybody was way too Jack Sparrow for my liking.

Lastly the Sand Snakes stabbed Euron more than once what ever happened to there poisoned weapons?

While I'n no fan of the Sand Snakes, Euron has replaced them as the most absurd Character on the show. I hope he finishes soon because he distracts from the other great characters in the show.
Agreed, the building of the ships thingy is really annoying.

About this episode, I think it was one of the worst episodes so far.
Most of the dialog was corny and predictable, this has hardly ever happened on the show.
Also, as Euron jumped onto the ship and made this stupid growling noise I asked my wife if we're watching Pirates of the Caribbean. Worst battle scene yet in the GoT.

Hope the following episodes are better. The season's opener was brilliant.

That's even dumber. Are you telling me it escaped the current KitN, who happened to be the former LC of the NW, to get someone capable of writing a letter and tending to ravens to Castle Black as soon as he can? What do you imagine the Watch do then when the WW come? Piss on them?

Considering how busy hes been since leaving, possibly yeh. Maybe there arent any ravens left around there considering the number that weve seen killed over the 7 seasons.
but considering the type of people at the Wall, finding people to do that would be easier said than done.
