Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

What I got from this scene was that the intention was to humanise the Lannister army and to also enforce the idea that just because these men are fighting on behalf of the people Arya wants to kill, doesn't mean they want to. They have no other choice; it's either fight to protect the crown (whether they like the Queen or not) or die.

Did this really need to be done though? I mean what point does it have in the context of the show?

We know soldiers are soldiers. again it isn't something that needs to be re-inforced or serves any purpose in doing so.

It wouldn't be a surprise if in the next episode Arya murders them all for being Lannister men. In fact this is probably the only way that scene does end up having a purpose, as it would then show Arya becoming detached from her humanity in pursuit of her agenda.

The Ed Sheeran scene would have been absolutely fine if he was sitting at the back of the group, just sang his little bit and then said nothing and the dialogue between the rest of the Lannister and Arya went ahead. The bit with the close up and "It's a new one" I half expected him to turn a wink at the camera.

Also does anyone know if Howard Reed is meant to still be alive, he's shown in fighting alongside Ned at the end of season 6 but no mention of him at all really in past season? Where is he and what's he been doing? Surely he knows about the whole R+L=J bit

It hasn't been mentioned whether he is dead or alive, but with his daughter now at the wall I'm sure someone knows about her dad

Interesting article on Arya being overpowered based on what we saw in the first episode. Kinda agree with it.
Meh. Mostly it seems he is bothered because she might kill his favorite character. Oddly his complaint that she has to have consequences when she is all about making sure others have consequences for their actions.

Then of course he loves Cersei who has been dealt more get out of jail free cards then anyone in the series. Even the death of her children means she just ends up with what she always wanted.

Nor is Arya the only character capable of influencing events. Littlefinger who nobody likes or trusts has played the major role in creating the chaos. Varys and his army of spies could and has pushed things towards his goals. Undead armies, dragons, magic etc.

He does not even understand why J even gave Arya the coin to get to Braavos.

So the White Walkers' route is all over the place if they're heading for the east coast again. Doesn't make much sense but anyway...
We don't know for sure that the White Walkers are heading for the east coast again though.. Right now, Jon is guessing their location based on the information he has. And the key information that he doesn't have is that from Hardhome the White Walkers went to the 3 Eyed Raven's cave. Feck knows where that is.

Bran knows too so Howland Reed is kind of pointless. He should go collect his daughter though, poor girl must be sick of lugging Bran everywhere.

Yeah, agreed with this. Not the best article in the world. The fact that Arya's definitely not going south - trust me, she just won't - negates quite a lot of his points.

There almost certainly will be some kind of comeback for Arya you'd think. No way they just have her stroll into Kings Landing and kill the queen as if it's no bother. Either she will fail or end up not getting around to it, or there'll be an almighty amount of dithering/plot twists/hassle en route.

Another option is either hearing the soldiers go on about family, or maybe finding out something, or some other event, causes her to change her mind and head north.

It's all a bit coincidental for me that danaerys is at dragonstone, Jon snow has to go there and arya is currently with a best selling artist who has a hit called "castle on the hill"

I believe that there's more to Arya's story arc than we can assume. A part of her training in season 5 was about her learning that the faceless men execute contracts/follow their given orders and that they can't use their skills for personal revenge. She got blind because she murdered Meryn Trant instead of the target she was assigned to take out. And Jaqen seemed to know a lot about her, even her feelings. He beat her with a whip because she said that she hated the Hound and kept telling her that she's lying. I think there's a great deal of very important details we don't know yet about her relationship with the faceless men.

Well Dragonstone is right next to Kings Landing. So I imagine we'll have an episode of Daenerys chilling out before she heads over and sieges it. She might try killing the Mountain, fails and is captured? Only to be then freed by Daenerys when Kings Landing falls? I dunno, seems a bit too obvious really.

Melissandre must be wandering around somewhere in that general area and she did tell Arya the two of them would meet again. Might bump into her and be convinced to go help Jon.

Even his complaint about the wine is dumb. It all came from the same cask all she had to do was poison that. She did not have to put poison in each individual Cup or even the containers they were served out of.

Also do we know that Arya made the pie? She mentions carving up the two sons but does she mention cooking the pie? Could be she just made sure the meat made it to the kitchen that day to be baked in Freys pie. Does not seem it would be too difficult.

The writer did not think through his complaints very well.

It is sad. Ed Sheeran is one of the low key celebrities that has made good of his talent and yet people still despise him due to the high levels of jealousy ruling their minds.
I don't dislike him. But his cameo was a silly an unnecessary distraction.

It wouldn't have bothered me if he'd just been in it. Like all the other cameos they've had. Instead he had to be some kind of centrepiece in a segment that only seemed to exist so Ed Sheeran could be a centrepiece in it...and I didn't even pick up on his line bigging up that that it was a "new song". This just makes it even worse. It cheapens a serious show into a tacky platform for Ed Sheeran to advertise his existence on. Sort of thing you expect on a chat show or at worst, an episode of WWE Raw or something (and even then it'd probably annoy 90% of the viewers).

Anyone else feel underwhelmed by Euron's costume designer? The man is showing up to marry the Queen of seven kingdoms as the ruler of the Iron islands and they outfitted him like he was going out to have a beer with his mates.

Thats what bothered you? How did he get those 1000 ships so quickly?

I think some of the complaints seem like complaints just for the sake of being.... complaints.
Like its a bad thing to enjoy things

Bran met Samwell at the Nightfort (that was how they got over the wall).
Bran then went to Crasters Keep (they got captured and was able to escape when Jon attacked it).
The 3 eyed raven cave isn't marked on any map i've seen. Just a rough estimate and they have it roughly between Crasters Keep and the Fist of the First Men (that was the place where Sam found the Dragon Glass).

So the White Walker Army is a long way from the east shore. But then the last time we had a confirmed sighting was at the 3 Eyed Raven cave and that was Season 6 episode 5. So they've had 6 episodes to march back to the coast I guess.

I assume their journey is back and forth. They must have found a way to Winterfell to get one of the giants, right?

Was it quickly? Looks like they all aged and time was skipped - (didnt they start building them at the end of the last season).?

After the opening episode, I'm mostly watching now to see the direction of the Hound/BWB and what Jamie does.

The rest doesn't interest me as much anymore. Although I'm intrigued that they've seemingly made Euron some sort of cross with Heath Ledger's Joker.

Thats not Wun Wun. I had this discussion with a mate. We;ve only ever seen two living Giants. Wun Wun and the Giant Leader who opened the door at the Wall and was killed inside the tunnel.

It would be nice if some nerd put out a real-time map as of S7E1 that's his shows where everyone is at.

You really do believe that some nerd hasn't already done that? Well, up to s06e10 that is.

Just make sure you click on "Episodes" on the right and not on "Chapters". Then drag the bar above all the way to the right. Finally, pick the character you want.

Christ, god help Mc Gregor after he's on it.

UFC cage in the middle of nowhere with him fighting the only black man in Westeros.

This. Guy seems pretty decent. Certainly doesn't act like a cnut like certain other celebrities.

I dunno, we didnt see any giants previously with the Walkers (well not at Hardhome or where the 3ER was). You would think after that, they went to recruit more 'undead' and came across the killed giants. BUt yeah, a third one appeared and I was like wtf?

He didn't need any Giants when he hit Hardhome though. That was just the NightKings recruitment strategy!

Both living Giants that we've seen died either at the wall or south of the wall and would have been burnt afterwards like all the other corpses.

It's also weird because every character on the show is portrayed by an actor. Some are/were unknown before GOT. Others were already famous. But somehow this particular person somehow crosses the line.
There's a very weird (gosh, we should stop using that word now!) trend lately, where it just seems cool or very hipster to almost criticize or find wrong with everything popular or well liked.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing aspects of something and I'm probably a bit "old school", but if I hate something as much as some seem to (as an example would be TWD or Suits), I'd simply just stop watching

But maybe I'm just a simpleton.

Whilst i agree with you, and it doesn't really make any sense that wun wun has been turned, what threw me off was the fact that they made it a point to zoom in on his eye - obviously a call back to how Ramsay killed him. Why would they do this for any other reason than to show that this is wun wun?

It's not there merely to show us that they have turned some giant by showing us the blue eye, 'cause i think we got that by the fact that he's following an army of the dead through a frozen wasteland, so i don't think they needed to ram it home like that.

Anyway, like i said, you're probably correct but that bit just seemed odd to me.

Just assumed it was because they wanted a cool way of transitioning into the next scene.

edit - Unless its a glimpse of the future.

Maybe a glimpse of the future, yeah.

Nah it definitely wasn't just a normal transition. They made it a point to zoom in on the eye. That was not done on accident, that's why it threw me off.

Just a silly question...don't even think it needs a spoiler.

What will happen first - the battle for Westeros (almost Dany vs Cersei) or the battle of mankind vs the WW?

You'd logically assume Westeros first? And then the kingdom is united against he WW, right? But this is GoT, so it might play out much differently.
