Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

It's just two apparent changes in character in just one episode. First
she kills all the Freys, who never were on her death list. Ok, she's an out of control psycho killer now?
But then
instead of killing everyone who wears Lannister-red, she's sitting down for some friendly campfire stories. So no psycho killer after all, as we believed for the entirety of... maybe 10 minutes?
She has been on course for spoiler 1 for quite some time, though, it's not like the cold opening appeared out of thin air. This is the direction she has been headed in for a few seasons now, and spoiler 2 might be an important step in her maintaining/salvaging her humanity.

EDIT: We're allowed to discuss events that have occurred in the show without using spoiler boxes, right?

She killed all the Frey's because the ones in the room were part of the red wedding massacre. She's clearly not a psycho killer, she stopped the girl drinking the wine! She didn't kill the Lannister sliders cause they spexifically did nothing to her or her family. It's not rocket science.

Shall we begin

Great episode. The scale of the show is incredible, on par with an actual film.

That remains to be seen. It's only relevant if it changes something in her character.

Or if it changes the viewer's perception on things. The writers might have been trying to remind the audience (through Arya) that the supposed "bad guys" are normal people too. Relevant if there's, say, a battle between the Lannisters & Danaerys or humans & undead coming up.

Hell, they might have just included it to touch on the way "the game of thrones" impacts on the underclass who don't make the decisions, a theme that has run through the show since season 1.

Nah, they just wanted to get ginger Ed having a sing song in there.

The first episodes are always a bit uneventful, so I thought it was decent enough. Things will surely pick up soon.

Eye-opening opening scene + plodding soapy stuff littered with cringey dialogue + cliff hanger

Rinse and repeat.

Classic Game of Thrones.
Classic Nilsson

In fairness it really wasn't a cliff hanger. Christ we have waiting 7 damn seasons for her to finally sail that ocean. Now she is there...and she had the cheek to say "let's get started"

I don't mind him, the little fecker can sing, it's more just the fact that he had no right being In the show. There's probably an extra on that show who's a brilliant singer, never had a line of dialogue and could have gotten that part and it'd have been the best day of his life, but they sold out and got a pop star to do it.
It was done as a birthday gift for Maisie Williams, she is a massive ed sheeren fan

No love for another small yet brilliant scene for lady mormont?

Fantastic opening scene with Arya. Still my favourite character.

Saw the first signs of discord between Jon & Sansa. Reckon Littlefinger is going to play them against each other masterfully & end up the top dog - even if Sansa thinks she knows his game. Sansa has really developed into a more assertive character now, good to see her terrible experiences have made her stronger rather than destroy her. Actually enjoy watching her scenes. Hopefully they find out about Bran soon.

Euron looks like one twisted feck.

fecking Ed Sheeran. Was really hoping Arya would murder him.

The Hound is fantastic  The scene with him looking into the fire was really well done.

Lady Mormont is awesome.

So there is a mountain of dragonglass underneath Dragonstone which is where Daenerys is. Wonder if she knows about it?!

Sam said that stannis told him about the mountain of draonglass. Why did it only now occur to him that it might be rather important?

Rewatched a few weeks ago, but as far as I can tell, when Sam mentioned to Stannis that Obsidian kills White Walkers, Stannies replies with "we have that on Dragonstone" or something like that.

He didn't mention that they have an underground mine though. I'm sure the scene is on YouTube, cannae be arsed to look.

EDIT: feck it

Book stuff

Ok so it's from the
books
Not sure I wanted to know that since it hasn't been shown on TV. Not gonna cry about knowing it but you might want to edit that - there are a lot of posters in this thread who might not want to know.

Edit: I've quoted your post but removed the content in the spoiler in case you edit your post.

From the beginning of the show, pretty little Sansa had one thing in mind to become a Queen, just like one major character we know, who now sits upon the Iron Throne. Now the bit about her and Jon's conversation about Cersei, might that be a bit of foreshadowing? Might Sansa, with all she has gone through, once again seeing her chance at sitting on a throne slip away, be ready to be channel her inner Cersei and take out Jon? I think the possibility is there.

Yeah, I hope it doesn't happen, but I worry that
she might end up forming an alliance with Littlefinger and imprisoning Jon or something. Or maybe do a little coup when inevitably he goes south to meet Daenerys

Can someone remind me where the hound came across those two dead people again?

Does stuff thats been revealed in the latest episode be put here without spoilering by the way?

Opening was really good (Arya scene and the obligatory scene with the White Walkers... walking).

The rest was all buildup, but I'm sure it won't disappoint.

The Greyjoy guy looks like a drunken rockstar - seems a little out of place (but no more out of place than add fecking Sheehan).

Loving Sansa already this season. Standing up to Jon, warning him not to be an "honourable fool" like Ned and Robb. Plus the line to Littlefinger "Save yourself the last word, Lord Baelish. I'm sure it would've been very clever." The sass!

Is speculation allowed based on dialogue in the season trailers?

I think it speaks volumes for this episode (I personally think it was weak) that so many people are taking so many different things from it, there must be at least 10 different "favourite lines/parts" on the last few pages

If you listen to her words, it could have easily been a script written for Cersei.

Feckin hell, how are people still talking about book stuff in here without realising the rules. Its nuts. 7 seasons in and it still freakin happens.

Also @van der star
Your Euron logic post deserves more love.

Speaking of Euron, any chance:
he goes and delivers the killers of Cerseis daughter to her... the sandsnakes. Or just Ellaria and kills the others. Ellaria killed the daughter with the kiss. By delivering her, it pretty much takes out Dorne right and makes him trustworthy to Cersei.

GoT may have alienated the male/topknot wearing demographic.

No bouncing back from that.

Yep as seen by the next post :P ...
Just another modern day thing appearing in the show, thought it was stupid really

Only way I can see that happening is if she goes full on villain and really wants the crown at all costs. Because surely she must know what LF did to betray her dad. Right? And shes just using him whilst the Vale are there before the true coup is to off him but still have that army.

Saying that.... @JustAFan - I like your Sansa post
comparing and the parallels with Cersei. And it would play into Tyrion telling her "you will outlive us all"...
Then he can claim that technically hes still married to her :P

Agree with @JustAFan on Sansa...

This is based on dialogue in the second trailer for season 7...

In the trailer, Sansa says "The lone wolf dies, the pack survives." I think Jon is the lone wolf. Maybe Sansa wants power. If Jon's parentage is revealed, then that's not a true Stark at the head of Winterfell. Maybe Sansa wants the pack, the Stark name, to survive with her in charge.

Imagine how bemused Jon & Sansa would be to be reunited with Arya & Bran and see what they've both become.

Until Bran reveals to everybody who Jon really is. Sansa, despite all shes been through, would somehow be the most normal Stark left.

Episode was going well until the point where Arya met a bunch of out of character soldiers in the forest (basing on the show's context). The Hound scenes are still fantastic.

Jon is living his second life and has fought alongside giants against Ice Zombies. I think he'll handle it. :)

Yep, no need for cameos - really didn't get that. Tacky.

Also agree about the hound, he is fast becoming one of my favourite characters

I fecking hate Euron. He appeared to late in the game and his introduction was a lot of bullshit too. Im going to resent absolutely any impact he has on the story now, you can just tell he is going to do something like kill a major character or destroy part of Dannys army and Im going to be proper fecked off when it happens. Just piss off you lispy boring cnut.

I think I can do with less of Jon sitting in a room saying things so someone can say "Hang on mate I dont know about that" but then que rousing inspiring retort to unite everyone even stronger than before. Why is Sansa such a twat now? She's spent 6 seasons in the company of horrible people. just shut the feck up and listen to your awesome brother.

Ed Sheerans introduction was pretty random/funny, my girlfriend said "Is that Ed Sheeran?" when she heard his voice and I was just about to lay a verbal smackdown on how stupid that would be until I saw his face just before I embarrassed myself. I swear I've seen his droopy dog face looking mate before as well? Is he an actual actor or just was it just an Ed Sheeran entourage? I cba to check. Anyways the scene was alright. If you need to put together a band of soldiers that aren't going to attempt to rape and kill Arya like 99% of Westoros would have done I guess making Ed Sheeran is the one to lead that band. It woulda been proper fecking hilarious if he did turn out to be a rapist murdering bastard.

Hound was pretty fun as usual, although he has lost a lot of scare factor hasn't he? In the early seasons you had a feeling of dread whenever he was in a scene, like even though he wasn't really bad he could still do some horrible shit to people. Now he just seems to be part of the banter brigade. No matter how menacing or horrible he sounds everyones just like "Haha that is sooooo clegane, that guy is just classic".

Anyways all in all the episode was alright, the best bit by far was the first 5 minutes though. Arya needs to be in every episode and I hope she continues to feck everyone up.

Decent introduction episode overall... though it contained way too much Sam fecking Tarley, and the Daenerys scene went on a bit too long (and it served as a reminder to the complete pointlessness that was Stannis) at the end, but hey at least she's finally there and can actually do interesting stuff.

Was it intentional for Sansa to come off as a bit of a twat? 'Cos that's what I got from it.
