Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Forget his cameo, why do folks hate Ed Sheeran? Not just here, other places are like "enjoyed the scene BUT I feckING HATE ED SHEERAN!"

I don't mind him, the little fecker can sing, it's more just the fact that he had no right being In the show. There's probably an extra on that show who's a brilliant singer, never had a line of dialogue and could have gotten that part and it'd have been the best day of his life, but they sold out and got a pop star to do it.

Well I suppose it was Walder's throne room.. Considering he is always there.. Carrying his body out without anyone seeing wouldn't be so easy..

Edit: Ya like @Arbitrium says.. Gave her too much power quickly I guess.. But with time running out to finish the series,I guess they didn't have time to show the whole buildup..
Quickly? She spent a whole bloody season training.

Edit: 2 seasons apparently thanks @RedSky

Dragged in one or two spots, they could have done with a bit less of the Sam Shit montage, but over all I liked it. But then again I am not one of those who expects every single episode to have some major plot point resolved, twisted, etc.
They set up the coming season very nicely.

They trolled us at the end with Dany saying "let's begin"... she's literally been beginning since episode 1 of season 1

Aryas scene with the Lannisters just didn't make sense, she had literally just commited genocide and now she's koom-ba-ya'n around the fireplace with troops of the family she despises more than any.
Not even close.

She did give thoughts to killing them (notice she looked to see where their swords were).

My guess as I am would guess many people are thinking
at some point later in the season Arya learning a bit of compassion for her enemies will play a part in her success or failure or perhaps her learning to be more selective in her targets. Her whole reason for being since her father was killed was to get revenge against her enemies. Nothing wrong with giving her some second thoughts about who she should kill. Especially considering the mass murder she had just committed against the ever-so-deserving it Frey's

It may not be the beginning of the end, but it is the end of the beginning. So really, yeah arriving in Westeros is the beginning of a new phase in her goal to take back the crown. Especially arriving back at the place she was born and spent the first years of her life.

If you feel trolled, well that is really all on you, not the show.

Nice set up episode. What surprised me most was how much time they spend with Thoros/Dondarrion/Hound? I suppose they're going to play a big part sooner rather than later

Sansa looks positively regal in this episode. She's finally lost all the baby fat and looks stunning. I really hope
that she doesn't end up double crossing Jon before the end, but with Littlefinger around her, there's a small chance of that not happening.

So many characters, how the hell are they going to get endings for all of them? Unless the White Walkers take out half of them of course

From the beginning of the show, pretty little Sansa had one thing in mind to become a Queen, just like one major character we know, who now sits upon the Iron Throne. Now the bit about her and Jon's conversation about Cersei, might that be a bit of foreshadowing? Might Sansa, with all she has gone through, once again seeing her chance at sitting on a throne slip away, be ready to be channel her inner Cersei and take out Jon? I think the possibility is there.

I think the whole storyline of Sansa being Joffrey's queen and spending all that time in King's Landing was a reality check for her. She was only a child, and like any young girl she wanted to be a princess in her fancy castle. She's matured now and has learned the hard way that the life of a queen is no fun.

I think Littlefinger will cause problems, and Sansa may turn on Jon briefly but in the end they will end on the same side.

Probably the more likely scenario, I was just throwing one other out there.

"Maybe she saw them as a way in to King's Landing by just killing one of them and using his face."

Euron
Ah crap - my nephew and niece stole all of our best ships!

Euron's Friend, Doug
Uh. We still have....a whole bunch of ships. Like, so so many. Our main deal as a culture is "having a bunch of ships."

Euron
Sure but they got a 10 minute head start - there's no WAY we could ever catch up!

Euron's Friend, Doug
I don't...I don't think that's accurate at all. Aren't you, like, a legendary ship commander? We could probably catch up with them, steal back the ships, and follow through on your plan to marry Daenerys.

Euron
Nah, let's scrap my entire master plan. Instead - what if we traveled to King's Landing and I proposed to Cersei Lannister?

Euron's Friend, Doug
What. Why would you do that? Isn't your whole deal that you hate the lords of Westeros and want to see them bend the knee to you?

Euron
Yeah, but what if instead of that, I did the exact opposite and bent the knee to the highest lord in the land?

Euron's Friend, Doug
Even still, I don't think she's gonna wanna marry you. Your fashion sense is mostly "a moldy piece of bread that a seagull threw up."

Euron
Ah, you're right, I should get a makeover. How about "sexy vampire rockstar"?

Euron's Friend, Doug
What

Euron
Or maybe something like "Joshua Jackson in a Las Vegas strip club on ecstasy"?

Euron's Friend, Doug
Where is this coming from

Euron
Or along the lines of "My Chemical Romance during Movember"?

Euron's Friend, Doug

That is, like, the complete opposite of your current look.

Euron

This is definitely a smart idea.

Euron's Friend, Doug

Also why are you allying yourself with Cersei? Sure, she has the Iron Throne, but you KNOW Daenerys is coming with THREE DRAGONS and a MASSIVE ARMY. Cersei is a traitorous monster who helped kill her last husband, blew up 10% of King's Landing, and has nothing but a worn out army that she can't pay for.

Euron

...

Euron's Friend, Doug

WELL?

Euron

I think I'll rip on her brother's hand. That'd be pretty funny, right?

Euron's Friend, Doug

I knew I should've just followed your dickless nephew.

I have no memory of who the skeletal remains were that the hound found in the house

Really should have watched one of the recaps

anyone else underwhelmed?
me, granted it began in a cool way with Arya Revenging the red wedding(though you really have to stretch your belief to believe her impersonating Walder Frey) and ended in a cool way with Daenerys going to dragon stone, but the rest of a episode was just a quick wip around to see where everyone was, really could of all been covered in 5 mins.

and did we really need to waste time with Ed Sheran ?

Definitely one of the best season openers of the series for me. Several really strong scenes. The Sam montage was a highlight, as well as the cold opening. Quite liked the Ed Sheeran scene too and the Euron/Jaime scene had some great barbs. Really strong start.

People are often underwhelmed by season openers because they have way too high expectations. It's supposed to set things up, and this one did so extremely well.

Having Arya encounter Lannister solidiers who aren't pantomime bad guys likely feeds into the psycho-killer revenge arc she's been on for a while.

A weird thing has happened with game of thrones where any episode that doesn't involve surprise deaths or massive spectacle immediately gets dismissed as "filler" or "pointless", as if basic things like plot development, character development or even characters simply moving from one place to another are some sort of unnecessary add-on.

It's more that everything feels so incoherent. Scenes like the one with Arya you described don't seem to really belong to any story thread, nor do they advance the greater plot as a whole.

I found that episode to be very gripping! It felt edge of the seat even though the action was minimal.

It belongs to the story thread of Arya becoming a psycho killer maniac, then suddenly realising that even Lannister soldiers can be kind and pleasant people. Totally relevant to her character arc.

That remains to be seen. It's only relevant if it changes something in her character.

You could say that about any scene.
It's just two apparent changes in character in just one episode. First
she kills all the Freys, who never were on her death list. Ok, she's an out of control psycho killer now?
But then
instead of killing everyone who wears Lannister-red, she's sitting down for some friendly campfire stories. So no psycho killer after all, as we believed for the entirety of... maybe 10 minutes?
