Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Can't be all that much useful plot left in GRRM's future books if there's only so much for 16 more episodes. In fact, some I notice are already speculating he might just release Winds and it will turn out to have the ending with it, acting as the last book.

They've cut/altered lots of storylines from the books, there's more than enough material for another two books. Though I suspect the next one will end pretty much where we are now on the show.

I think some like myself prefer that the Red Wedding is a one time deal. It was huge and will likely remain the pivotal, shocking moment in the story. I'm not sure having every major event in the same manner is necessary.

Also let's assume you're watching it as someone who doesn't read predictions on the internet. As much as we knew something was happening at the trial when Cersei didn't move and Gregor stopped Tommen from going. The delivery of it was spectacular. I mean it was almost exactly like the predictions people had made prior to the episode (not exact of course) and it was still amazing to watch regardless.

I think you could also argue the oncoming 'winter' is accelerating the plot as well. We've been waiting for the wall to fall and it still hasn't. Eventually, the foreplay has to stop and something has to give.

As you say, you obviously prefer a slick modern quick show. I don't. I prefer Seasons 1-4. 5 and 6 have had their action moments but I've not overly enjoyed the writing. They've been as subtle as a brick at times and that frustrates me, I also don't like the speed they're pushing it along. That's just my opinion.

We have many people still complaining about the amount of "filler" that has been in the last two seasons, now someone complaining that they are rushing things too much. You never really can please everyone.

To be fair, I've complained of filler myself in the previous 2 seasons. But the difference is that it's badly written filler which serves little purpose in the long run or smacks you over the head with the "i'm telling you something important that you need to listen to because its an important clue".

I'll re watch it all again (again, 4th time) ready for Season 7, but I know last time I did it was a struggle to get through Season 5 and I think it will be the same with Season 6. I love the show, but it certainly has its faults.

I'd be interested to know if this is a book reader vs tv viewer argument. Or if i'm alone in thinking this. fwiw, I did read the first 2 books and stopped as I struggled to get through several characters chapters (cough Catelyn, Sansa cough). Feel free to PM me if you agree.

I've really enjoyed the final two episodes, they've been a level above the rest of the series.

The soundtrack especially in the finale was magnificent.

Think I'll be watching it all again at some point :)

Bran's uncle said something about not being able to go over/through the Wall because of some sort of magic? Is that why the whitewalkers haven't attempted to cross yet?

I wonder what he's going to do with himself now.
Cause he's dead , he's a zombie!! That's how I heard it

Amazing last few episodes to the season... It's like the people who make the show got annoyed with Martin and how slowly the books were progressing and then just went into overdrive this season . So many things wrapped up/confirmed and progress made.

Definitely an improvement for me. Talk has always been the writers have been at odds with GRRM regarding aspects of the source material and plenty was spoken about how the show creators personally hated certain characters (Stannis). They were probably delighted with him having to hand over the 'cliff notes' of the plot so they could get things moving.

The show had to kick on after a while and head towards the main conclusions of the story. As I mentioned earlier, it'll be 8 seasons in total when finished and I'm not sure everyone appreciates that will be a pretty good total compared to most TV shows.

If you want the drawn out details and borderline pointless side characters, read the books.

I thought this season was a big improvement on Season 5, which was by some distance the worst. Season 6 had its flaws and poor moments but then so did the earlier seasons too. It's part of the nature/structure of the show I think.

We also saw mercifully little of the Sand Snakes this year.

Oh shit, I guess I just missed the bit where he jumped. I just saw him take off his crown.

TBH, I was watching the scene and when he walked off, it seemed like they were focusing on the burning of KL to let it sink in. then he walks back in and just walks out casually. I was laughing but then went HOLY SHIT at the same time. It was tragic in a way, cos he was close to being poisoned as a kid until Tywins army came late in s2. He was then thrust into king as his brother died, (and of course his sister died). For him, his dad had already died and he was being used and manipulated by three different people. He was not a bad guy at all. But I kinda gone off topic here lo

Spain for Dorne and Belfast for the boat scene.

Thats an interesting thing to know. What a great job  All for one line?

The further along you get, as the players are killed off, the possibilities narrow.

This is my thoughts too. A lot of people say "this is predictable, that is predictable, etc". But every single theory / outcome has been discussed a hundred times over no matter how ludicrous or batshit crazy. And for around 10+ years. But at times, some thigns have to be predictable because any other outcome would seem like a twist for the sake of a twist despite the earlier storytelling.

Then people will just throw out filler or DEM for the sake of it despite it not making sense or not being used appropriately.

Started making a death list for next season and realized that it was almost the entire cast. I really can come up with reasons for almost every major and minor character NOT to survive the coming wars. I think it will be a bloodbath next season.

They need a scene next season where Genry is rowing and crosses pathes with Pod and Brienne

So is Jon snow , denerys half brother ? :wenger: Help!!!

Well Dany is younger sister to Rhaeger. Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna and probably got her preggers. She gave birth to Jon Snow. So Snow is Arya, Bran and Sansas cousin. But nephew of Dany.
Thats some freakin cool lineage.

I cant really get mad at the time and distance jumps the show does anymore, as long as the show remains entertaining. Besides nothing beats the stupid recasting of the Mountain for me.

I thought the recasting for the children of the forest was unnecessary (though there must have been a reason). At first I was like "who is that?"

I dont mind the big icelandic dude as the mountain but they should have dubbed his Arnie voice with the previous actors. The man who played the mountain in season 2 is still involved with the show as the Giant Wan Wan. But no we get this cringeworthy arnie voice.

I enjoyed Olenna shitting all over the Sand Snakes. Banter is still on point even in mourning.

Anyone thought Cersei was channelling Judge Dredd? Ma-ma picked up something from the Peach Trees incident, it seems.

Spakulation about the show ending, not saying I agree, just an interesting twist if you are into reading speculation.

Have read a couple of fan blogs with theories that despite the time and effort spent on following the characters we have come to love, hate and sometimes both, that the final "shock" ending will be the White Walkers defeating mankind, at least on Westeros. The theories generally follow the line that while the humans are battling it for control of the Seven Kingdoms, they end up just weakening themselves (already several great houses and their armies are not as strong on they once were), driving further division amongst themselves. Having abandoned magic for science for the most part, they do not believe the warnings from the North of the coming of the Others, until it is too late. They usually speculate that one or more of the dragons are killed in the battles for the Seven Kingdoms, and any remaining while proving excellent weapons against the Others, eventually they are destroyed before they can defeat the others or maybe just entombed in ice by a massive blizzard. So in the end the politics, war, ego, drive for personal power, etc brings about the end of mankind on Westeros and possible the world.

Someone mentioned it on Reddit but a great scene would be Olenna giving her sass to the Night King.

"Anything to say for yourself Frosty!?"

"..."

"Thought so!"

I do like Cersei's fashionable armour. She wore an armoured corset thing too during Blackwater.

Her turn to the daaaark siiiide is compleeeete. Darth Cersei.

It's a better ending that what some expected. That being, Kings Landing destroyed entirely and Cersei dead.

I expected more for a finale episode though...was left feeling a bit empty after the awesomeness of episode 9.

Davos was powerful in that episode.

"I loved that girl like she was my own. She was good, she was kind and you killed her!"

Got chills after that.

Well it's about bloody time Daenerys. It's took you six seasons to start sailing across the seas to Westeros. What an episode. I don't think anyone was expecting this good of an episode after the one we had last week so it pleasantly surprised everyone. We lost another hottie in Natalie Dormer. Also now are the three houses together because Varys was on Dany's ship at the end right? Oh and nothing needs to be said about the King In the North. Jon-fecking Snow. It's all let up for a brilliant show next season. THe Starks definitely need bigger alliances.
4 Don't forget House Greyjoy.

Did Davos only just find out about Shireen when he picked up that charred toy?

I'm guessing he assumed she was dead but died via battle. The charred toy gave it away that Stannis gave in to her and sacrificed her.

Just read what @RedSky had written; I think that's it, the last episode just felt so rushed.
They have ten hours to cover each book with each episode costing them as much as a low budget movie. I think they are doing the best they can and are doing a fantastic job.

So many great moments. Loved the initial build up to 'burning them all'. The King in the north, the Jon revelation, the Frey revenge, the dany bits, even dorne and Sam were interesting. Even though many of these were predictable, but it was very well made to keep you hooked. What the feck did the Mountain do to the Nun?

Raped her. Probably to death. It's established he's fond of that earlier in the show.

I would think rape...
