Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Is the hound a good guy or a bad guy?
As the episode explained, it's never too late for redemption, or to change for the better. He's obviously been bad/done bad things in the past but this new lease of life gives him the chance to do something positive. Whether his idea of positive is genuinely positive or just personal vengeance remains to be seen.

Well, one theory I thought of is
Jaqen wearing Arya's face. The faceless men are basically contractual killers are they not ? They are not supposed to be subjective in their assasinations. It could be possible that the Waif being happy with assasinating Arya might have broken some rule of the Faceless God and Jaqen had to restore order. I know it's far-fetched and very unlikely, but just throwing it out there.

Also, apart from stashing away her sword, needle, did she have access to a lot of money ?

I'm pretty sure the whole point of those washing ceremonies in the previous season was that they were being prepared for their faces to be removed. You can only wear faces of dead people and Arya isn't dead.

Doesn't make sense.

Waif isn't a complete moron. She'd notice Arya being a heck of a lot taller than usual

I don't really think that comes into play though does it ? Whenever they have done the face swapping thing, they haven't explicitly mentioned that the faceless men only take on the face of the person. Must be some weird ass magic involved there that allows them to take the complete form of the person they wish to mimic.

unless the cup drinking thing achieves the same thing? Im sure we've seen Jaqeens face on the wall

I hope not. It would be ridiculous IMO. When Waif took off her mask it was just the mask that came off. Her height and physical appearances (face aside) didn't change.

That's a fair point. Also in the previous episode, Jaqen is physically peeling of the face of some old person on the slab when he was talking to Arya. But I think last season in the final episode, when Arya was stealing a face, didn't they also show the faces of people that weren't dead ?

No idea. I know they have that teaser for this season when they had peoples characters faces on the shelves, but I thought that was more a promotion thing than anything spoilery. I.E. Any of them could die type promotion.

How so ? Didn't Arya do the exact same thing last season by stealing a face from that temple and killing one of the people on her Hit List ?

When she did that she took the face of a young girl though, as the fella in question was a child beater/molester. Which is how she managed to get so close to him

Is the hound a good guy or a bad guy?
Aside from him killing the butcher's boy in season one, most of his actions are those of a good guy. Especially towards the way he treats Sansa and Arya. As others have already stated, most of the characters in GoT aren't either black or white, but fall into different shades of grey.

Was it ? I can't remember completely. Then yeah, maybe not so magical after all. But hasn't Jaqen done it many times as well ? Pretending to be someone else ? Did he always use faces that solely matched his physique ?

Almost certain it is Jaqen. In episode 6 of this season, when the Waif says "As I expected" Jaqen says "Shame, a girl had many talents." Pretty sure he was talking about the Waif in that scene and not Arya. He then said don't let her suffer.

The Waif slashed Arya in the stomach and stabbed her twice, twisting the knife in her gut while staring at her. Jaqen was testing the Waif and she failed.

Plus why didn't Arya have Needle?

He literally told us everything about him, I'm not sure what I can add
He was wearing a sign of the seven medallion and I think they where building a church. The way he talked he sounded like a preacher.
Who exactly killed the group that Hound was with? They said Red Keep right? As in Kingslanding troops?
Brothers Without Banners I think. The lead one said, 'the night is long and full of terrors.' That is a saying of the Red God. The Brothers have a Red Priest with them. The only other one I know besides Mel in The Seven Kingdoms.

Yup, this makes sense. My initial reaction while watching was "is that really Arya?" But if that was Jaqen who got stabbed in the gut, does that mean he's gonna die? He doesn't have supernatural powers (other than changing faces :)), does he?

I think this is possible, but still doesnt make sense why Jaqen as Arya would walk through in that form for everybody to see. Unless that was part of the test.

Ahhh, I hate this wait. And only 3 episodes left of the season.

Yeah, ever since NinjaFletch suggested it might not be Arya, this theory is strong for me as well. Not just the absence of Needle, where did she get all that Money from ? I am sure, she didn't stash that away previously.

Is the hound a good guy or a bad guy?
He's human in a Medieval setting. He would be a Monster by today's standards but pretty average for a Medieval Knight. They were not all valor and honor in real life. They raped, pillaged and murdered all across Europe. Different time different standards.

I thought that but didn't he wear the Waif's face when Arya went blind?

He "died" already if I remember correctly, and after the "resurrection" he said that he can't die because he is no one (hence why I'm putting the quotes on die and resurrection, it's not like with the Red God)

:D

There's much better on the cast but I would definitely do.

Ahh thank you. My lovely Waif! And she gets through another episode....happy days!! :D Thought she was going to be a goner for sure!

Theons sister sucking on that girls tit was the highlight of the episode for me

Yeah, she wore the face of a young girl and she simply took the mask off and slaughtered the guy. It's not as if she walking around like a 6 foot tall stocky Ned Stark and after taking her mask off converted into a tiny girl.

Regarding the bolded bit, the question isn't whether you can only wear the face of someone who matches your physique complete. It's whether your physique changes when you wear a face, as that's the only way Jagen can pull off impersonating Arya

I don't know how this thread descended to Theon's sister and bloody Waif being the Got hotties, but the girl she was with had a brilliant body.

I don't know why it's even a question - of course your physique changes. The face is merely a symbol (which is especially needed in a TV version)

That's quite an assumption. It might turn out to be true but why would you consider it so obvious when it's never been shown to happen nor implied, on the actual show. The whole cult is built around the anonymity of having no identity and wearing many faces. Not transforming completely into another human being. So what.. she wears a Dire Wolf's face and turns into a Dire Wolf?

My opinion - GOT won't do something so absurd and it was indeed Arya.

Well, first of all, they are known for shapeshifting and I don't that this question came up earlier (or ever, that's why I thought that your first post was tongue in cheek). Men can transform into women and vice versa - if they were all limited by their physique, there would be at least couple of dozens priests (or how would you call Jaqen) in that building, different shapes, gender and sizes, while they have one "priest" and one apprentice. And it would be really grotesque, a fully-grown men with a child face, for example, casually walking to the father of said child, holding a knife in his hand - and everyone just ignoring the absurdity of the situation

Direwolf is not a man, so your question is very strange. Their believes are based on humans

edit: Just watch the moment when Arya first came to their temple. Jaqen opens the door, looking like an old black man and his skin is also, surprise!, black - hence his body changes too

Where do you get this from?

In the last bolded bit, that wouldn't happen because a grown man would obviously find an adults face if he wants to impersonate someone/hide his identity. Just like the Waif picked an old lady face and not an infants face. Just like Arya chose another kid's face last season. It's the application of common sense from them rather than coincidence/shape shifting. Unless there's something that's been mentioned on the show that I've missed?

well, jaqen transformed into waif, for example.
Edited my original reply, but it was too late - Just watch the moment when Arya first came to their temple. Jaqen (as we'll know later) opens the door, looking like an old black man and his skin is also, surprise!, black - so his body changes too

Enjoyed the episode. Some great moments. The Arya bit is getting weirder. The strange look on the faces of people on the streets while Arya is plodding around after what looked like a fatal assault got me thinking...

Is it actually happening?
