Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

The rebellion started when the Mad King executed Ned's dad and brother, and ordered Jon Arryn to execute Ned and Robert Barratheon who had been fostered by him.
They actually shot that scene for the show but didn't use it because of time and pacing.

They used a bit of it in the trailer for season 1...

So all Arya had to do was stop the "I am a hitting bad ass gal" once and then she was ready to be a Nobody. Pretty strange.

It's obviously all done over a period of time. Jesus, imagine the bitching about that story line if they showed it in full?

I don't see any problem in a bit of grumbling about the show, that's normal. I've seen people in here call it "terrible" and "piss poor" though. If that's you're genuine opinion then just don't watch the show!

It's more out of frustration of waiting a whole year with so many amazing trailers to have so much filler in the first few episodes. In fairness though, they do that every season meaning the last few episodes of the season should be epic.

At least they could have shown Arya getting hit, slowly defending herself as some kind of highlights reel over a period of 3 mins or so. Not so tough.

They did show her gradually getting better during that whole segment, with the climax being smacking that bint in the chops!

Tony Martial plays for France
English press said he had no chance
50 million down the drain
Tony Martial scores again!

Such an epic song from our fans.

Spot on Carl

Jaime Lannister should be embarrassed to show his face. Arya has learnt how to fight blind, and he can't learn to fight with a sword using his bloody left hand?

I enjoyed the episode. I like these laying the foundation weeks, where they build towards the major storylines of the season, because I spend the next 7 days dreaming of what all the pieces mean.

For example, while I agree with the Sam and Gilly stuff being largely pants, I am looking forward to him introducing her and "his son" to his abusive and scornful father. That could be an opportunity to introduce a decent new character. Then when he gets to Oldtown and starts training as a Maester, I want to know what his big purpose to the show is going to be. Will he discover how to forge Dragonglass or Valeryan steel? Or maybe how to best use the dragons themselves?

I loved the Arya progression and can't wait to see what happens from here. That waif girl definitely stops and double takes when she mentioned Walder Frey - there's something there. On the Hound stuff, I don't think the girl necessarily knows he's dead, just that she knows when Arya is lying and here Arya genuinely believes it's the truth.

Reckon the Sparrows have the Hound and have helped him recover and possibly even brought him over all holy. Sets thing up too perfectly for the Cleganebowl that everyone wants so badly.

Bran's flashbacks are great as well. Loved the sword fight between Ned and Sir Arthur - the difference between that and the shambles down in Dorne is enormous. As for Ned being shown up as less honourable after the fight, I don't think so. I'm guessing his mate Howland Reed died after stabbing your man in the back and rather than disgrace his friends name, Ned just let people believe he'd won the fight himself.

Finally on Ramsey, I'd be wary of him getting killed off too soon. The show is gradually running out of top class cnuts and he is right up there. We lost one of the best performed bad guys in Alliser Thorne this week and will likely see the end of one or more of the Mountain, the Hound, Cersei, Elaria, Walder Frey, the Head Sparrow or the Sons of the Harpy by the end of this season. A whole season 7/8 of nice guys against silent White Walkers would be boring as feck.

Agreed. I think peoples (especially those same posters going OTT saying GoT is shite every week) expectations are too high. Either that or they have no appreciation of character progression and simply want each episode to be an action packed adrenaline rush.

See: people complaining about Bran's storyline in previous seasons. For me, I'm most excited about his storyline than any other right now. Those episodes of "boredom" had purpose. Similarily there's a lot of hate for Arya's training right now. Have people forgotten how bad ass J'aqen H'ghar is? If she ends up like him then it was well worth the wait.

I think GoT has set the bar so high that people don't have the patience or expect each episode to be a Red Wedding or Eddard's beheading. But what made those episodes so powerful was the character progression and attachment we had for the characters.

Of course none of this applies to Dany. She's just plain shit.

A good post until you ruined it at the end!

What does this even mean? Sounds incredibly

People often add "bowl" (as in SuperBowl) to the end of a term as a play on words to suggest a large event or contest. In this context it's based on the two Clegane brothers who are huge, good fighters and who hate each other, maybe having a fight one day.

What does that emoticon mean?

I think they killed off the wrong Bolton. Roose was a far more interesting character. Ramsey is just a psychopath who happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Get the feeling Ramsey's needed alive to act as a sort of potential "good guy safety net for a comeuppance" So viewers have that "fecking hope jon fecks him up at some point" feeling. It would feel a bit of a shitty death for out of nowhere he gets stabbed by his dad or something with a one liner.

A battle of the bastards.
Or more apt given the previous posts, "Bastardbowl"

Yup, agree with this. People somehow forget there's a story to be told here inbetween all the shocks.

Kinda like Dany as a character, bit bored of the horsey people now though.

It has to be this. Ned was surely letting the story run so it seemed that Dayne had an honorable death.

Ok, so wait! Now, it's ok to talk about speculation out in the open ??

Speculation based on what has happened in previously aired episodes is fine.
Speculation based on next weeks trailers has to be clearly marked and spoilered.
Speculation based on fan theories read online is probably best left out of this thread entirely as they will inevitably include stuff from the books.

I think that's about right, @Cina ?

No, all speculation should be spoilered. All of it.

But you don't do that, do you, you cnuts? It's not like there's a massive fecking message in CAPITAL LETTERS in the thread title saying that or anything, is there?

God, you guys are the worst. I hope your TV's and laptops all break and you're forced to watch the remaining episodes on your phones.

I really hope they don't kill Ramsey, butthey probably will, given how they've shown the terrible shit he did to Sansa etc. I think Sansa will regain Winterfell and flay him.

Be more poetic if
Ghost makes a Reek ver 2 out of him.

But don't think he will die so soon though. Too few villains left, unless they turn Dany's or Tyrion into baddies.
