Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Do you think they'll have a season 6? After all, they've tied up all the stories nicely..........

Woould be funny if that was the finale for the series rather than the season. Just end it like that haha.

Still got a good few stories to go through such as Danys story, White Walkers, Hodor and Bran.

Wait, are we all allowed to go and party in the book thread now?
i hope so, i really want to read up on stuff as ive probably missed something, but im too scared to even google characters names because whether they die or not it comes up say "XXXXXX Dead" as one of the suggested searches

Does this show really deserve having the joint* highest ever rating on IMDb? I know it's good but is it THAT good? The best show of all time?

I really want to start a new series but I'm not really into this genre (never got that into LOTR either). Could be swayed if this is as good as people say!

Best I've watched. And I've seen Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire etc.

Couple questions I have are:
  • What was the ring that Daenerys takes off right before the Dothraki surround her?

Maybe it was her new wedding/engagement ring and she didn't want the Dothraki to know that she married someone else after Khal Drogo like the little whore she is!

I have also been wondering this. He got half the votes, and these were people who basically knew (and presumably agreed with) his attitude towards the wildlings etc. Yet for the last few episodes it has apparently been him and Sam vs the world.

I am guessing that a lot/most of the men he took to Hardholme with him were the pro-Jon camp though, and that a lot of them died.

Didnt Jon have some of the Nights watch with him? Basically keeping Jon and Wildlings out would have kept the other Nights Watch out (and wouldnt have been great with some on Jons side still inside)

Maybe were not and there will be conflict because their lord commander has died. Or from those who voted for Jon (and still liked Jon), nobody was around to see Jon die. So they can easily use the whole "a wildling came in and stabbed him" to turn everybody who was On Jons side against the Wildlings and to trust Thorne and let him take leadership.

Hard to say its rushed without seeing where it goes. Just my thoughts anyway. For all we know, we may never see anything at the Wall again. lol

There's a lot of gaps and presumptions that need to be made for all of this.

As far as we know there are no wildlings housed at Castleblack and I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to think the wildlings would kill Jon now after they've just trekked all the way back with him. There's half the watch who didn't like Thorne as it is but now because Jon's died suspiciously and Sam's gone they're all going to flock to his side? Presuming he took all his pro-camp with him is a stretch too as he knew it would stretch resources and it was an unpopular decision to go and gather the wildlings.

Also surely the word has spread around about the scenes at Hardholme? Are Thorne and co. just not taking it at all seriously or are we just presuming they're being extremely irrational due to their hatred for wildlings.

Mixed feelings about that. It was exciting but it seemed like an overload of shock moments after an incredibly dull and drawn out season building them all up.

Well I say shock but there was stuff that Arya could now see coming from a mile away... The poison of Myrcella, Theon saving Sansa (wtf did they jump off the wall for?), Brienne getting revenge on Stannis (he really fecked up in the last 2 episodes) to name a few.

I think they'd have better served tying a few of them plot strands up in earlier episodes rather than bombarding us with everything in the last one.

The Cersei walk of shame was pretty brutal. And then ended with the comical reveal of the Frankenmountain who is clearly based on Bane from Batman and Robin.

Also I don't there's a single person that believes Snow is dead for good which makes that whole thing a bit meh and devoid of the impact I suspect they wanted it to have.

Really poor season I'm disappointed to say.

P.s - Nobody asked how they escaped the harpies in the fighting pit.

Also was anyone else annoyed by Jon just sat there telling fat boy what had happened with the white walkers when surely a bit of a speech and some leadership skills might have not only saved his own arse but got over the gravity of the impending situation to everyone else on the other side of the wall?

That would've been the first thing to do. You know (knew?) nothing Jon Snow.

There's a lot of stuff like that in this episode. Like I'd like to know where that massive Bolton army came from?

Watched it again with the Mrs and I didn't pick up the first time that Brienne didn't actually see the candle being lit, but still roaming off to magically bump into Stannis (who ended up in a forest somehow) and killing him was just shit. Though, like the Hound, we don't see him die. Hopefully she's as shit at killing as she is saving lives.

Thats what I mean, they havent wrapped the story up, so its hard to say its rushed or not as we havent seen the consequences of all this. Its all assumption on what will be the fall out for the stabbing which might be explained, or there may be a civil war over this and its shortsightedness from them to do this given the White Walkers are approaching.

Saying that, I actually do think a few of the scenes could have happened earlier and been longer (And some of the stuff this season could have been cut). Or an extra episode or two would have helped.

  • Sansa and Theon either committed suicide or have escaped from Winterfell. Makes sense that they survived and will now go to look for Bran. Might meet up with Brienne and Pod as well
They wont just meet up with Bran, they will become Bran

When Cersei was walking for that atonement moment, I was so confused, thinking "why is that nun calling her Shane?" until my wife said the nun is saying shame. I felt to stupid

Can someone explain the logic of killing Jon by some of the watch?

1. They know the Walkers are coming so kill the guy who's seen them and is the best fighter.
2. I'm sure Jon still had followers in the Watch. So you cause a divide in a time of war. Genius.
3. In addition, you've pissed off the wildlings who made it through the wall and trusted Jon.

Also that line from one of the sand snake girls about Bron needing 'bad pussy' or whatever. That was terrible

Yeah lot's of cliche 'convenient' stuff. It was groan worthy that she disappeared just as the candle went up.

I feel like Stannis death too (if it is that, as you say) is again just a waste of a good character that we'd spent a lot of time with this season. His whole arc was just rushed. I mean he spent most of it fannying about at the wall then seemed in a massive haste to get on with his attack at Winterfell with one calamitous decision after another.

You know my favourite bit of all that was the reminder of Benjen Stark in the preview bit at the start of the episode. You're thinking "Ooh his Uncle might come back" but then by the end you gradually realise that the only point of it was the GoT equivalent of pointing behind someones shoulder and shouting "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!???"

Yeah, the great commander! I just don't want to believe that storyline is over, I mean that's been going on for the entire tv show and that's how it ends? Brienne? With that pointless burning of his daughter?

It makes little sense at all, and just doesn't sit right. I'm so tempted to go into the b-word thread and ask them!

I knew what was coming but was still like "Ooh, Benjen is coming back!". Felt pretty stupid when I realised I'd been bluffed too.

They really set me up for that one for a bit. I'm thinking they are just doing stuff for shock value now and it's no longer shocking, but just dull.

Also, in addition to my question previously about the Watch not thinking long term, when the Dothraki turned up, what were they doing to Dany? Will they join her or something?

feck knows, but going by how her storyline has played out, I fully expect them to be her new army and we return to Season 2 with her.

Looked like a celebration of some sorts.

Yeah the whole Uncle Benjen thing got me at first, then while he was following Olly it clicked in my head and I said "don't follow that little cnut he is gonna kill you" lol the missus told me there's no way they kill Jon haha

Here's a question I have, how did the many faced god assassin guy get caught in the first place when he initially met Arya? Was it on purpose so he could encounter her?

Had me like "hold on, don't follow him Jon" then I was like "ohhhh, wait, who are they all surronding!?" then it shows the sign and then I went all No, no, God no Steve Carrell from The Office gif.

I'd love to say I realised at that point but in all honesty I realised pretty much exactly when Jon did, staring at the traitor sign thinking "where the feck is Benjen?". Which would be fine except Jon didn't know he was going to get stabbed months in advance whereas I did.

Olly was just so damn convincing.

For a second, I thought Charizard had flown Daenerys all the way to Westeros. That would have opened up some possibilities.
