Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Okay, I re-watched it the episode again in like 2 or 3 minutes but just going over the scenes since some of you are suggesting I should "quit watching" if I didn't like that episode.

It's not just the problem I had with the episode itself but before watching, I was really excited to see what's going to happen to Tyrion, the reaction to him being sentenced and Sansa + Petyr.

So with every passing minute, I was getting more and more annoyed that they haven't left enough time to find out about Tyrions fate. Until the last ten minutes or so when I was really pissed... and finally I realized I wont find out about that.

That really got me enraged since I was waiting for it all week.

If you know this from the books please do not answer. Only help if I've missed hints or facts from the TV series please.

Mance Ryder was previously something to do with the Night's Watch wasn't he? Does this influence how things develop?

Also, do we know the relationship between White Walkers and Wildings? I'm assumed they were acting in concert but now that I think about it I don't remember them acting together and then there is the babies being sacrificed thing.

I suspect that there is more to all this than we yet know. Not sure what mind.

What do the Wildings want? What do the White Walkers want?

1) Mance used to be a ranger for the Nights Watch but decided to go AWOL.

2) They don't have any real relationship. The babies being sacrificed were Crasters sons - The sick scummer that had the playboy mansion of westeros, banging his daughters and grand-daughters. He had a deal with the Walkers : he would give them his sons, they would leave him alone.
The rest of the wildlings are afraid of the walkers like everyone else.

3) Wildlings used to be regular people from Westeros. After the first attack from the White Walkers, the Starks + Nights Watch built the Wall. The wildlings are simply the folk that were on the wrong side of the wall at the wrong time. Now, they just want to get back the lands they previously owned. They're also pissed that the Northerners left them on the other side of the wall, and they want revenge.

White Walkers, I think, are just bad blokes and want to invade everywhere and take over.

So you basically had a problem with the episode because it didn't show enough of Tyrion but other than that you don't have a problem with the episode ?

Saying he had fallen just meant he wasn't in any condition to be commanding anyone. I'm pretty sure he's alive.

He was when pulled away by his own troops. Injured but alive. Any more info than that (alive, dead, run away to join the circus) can only be from the books or some other source that isn't allowed.

Really? Seriously? You didn't suspect that the last two episodes would include a big feck off battle in the North and Tyrion's fate as the two main story lines (wait for me to be surprised next week)? It was fairly obvious from only a few minutes in that this was going to be a huge battle episode and nothing (or not much) else.

You should enjoy next week then I'd guess as I'm pretty sure Kings Landing must be featured next week. Unless they decide to have a 66 minute prequel of Sam Tarley's early years to make your head explode.

I had some problems other than that as well. I mentioned those in my previous posts.

It wasn't just that they didn't show enough of him. Just that... I was so eagerly waiting for what was going to happen to Tyrion and the more the episode went one I was thinking in my head "Alright, Alright we get it... now let me see what happens to Tyrion". It was frustrating for me and then I finally realized we wont know about his fate this episode.

To top it all of... Samwell Tarly. That guy can make the most epic moment in television history feel like a japenese torture cell.

Why the hate for Samwell Tarley? We don't need any more pretty boys. We need a representative for the fat, the ugly, the socially awkward, the unloved and unsexed. Your basic Caftard.

I give you Samwell Tarley. An everyman who even Caftards can identify with even if they wish they were John Snow (only got laid more).

Of course you liked the episode half the people in this thread didn't like

Oh come on, Nimic, it was an epic episode. I'm not too arsed about storylines moving on and the other stuff folk complain about. For me if it entertains then it's done its job. Last night the episode was all action, which was good enough for me. Sure I find most of it a bit Eastenders in fantasy land but that episode didn't deserve much criticism.

To be fair, I can see why folk wanted to see Tyrion's story, but that's only because they want it to come to a conclusion(like all soap opera stories..they keep us hanging on.).

Medieval soap opera in fantasy but with tits and dragons and extreme violence and dwarfs n stuff.

If you really want soap opera that isn't actually a soap opera try Chicago Fire. My missus watches that (for the firemen I hope) and it makes me want to stab myself repeatedly in the eyes and ears to make it stop. Fireman finds he has a sister from an affair his father had, he gets to know sister who is a Chef, she cooks dinner for the firehouse, starts to get close to another foreman, gets kidnapped and raped by some criminal her brother pisses off, she gets rescued, leaves to stay with her mother who is in California (not mention previously) seemingly OK with the world. Brother and potential fireman boyfriend seem fine 5 minutes later. Sister is never mentioned again.

This was roughly my assessment of it.

And to the resident caf comedians running their "should've tied up all story lines in first 5 mins LOL" joke again and again - I don't think it is unreasonable in a series of 10 episodes (after which we have to wait a year for the next), for each of those 10 episodes to actually progress the plot a bit.

After next week everyone is going to be all like "omg have to wait another year now", I feel that given how short each season is, that this season has had a lot of filler in general and several of the storylines haven't really gone anywhere - Daenarys is still milling about in her cities, Stannis is still sulking in Dragonstone, Arya and the Hound took an entire season to make a journey that other characters seem to have managed in 1-2 episodes.

So yes, I find it frustrating that they have chosen to spend the penultimate episode of the season on what was essentially a glorified skirmish between the Wildlings and the Nights Watch - they won a battle but cannot win the war, which we already knew.

Maybe every episode should just be the Wildlings throwing more and more troops at the Wall, night after night, while the Nights Watch struggle to hold them off. As long as have cool shit like scythes and giants then it doesn't really matter if anything actually goes on, right?

Already broadcast although I am breaking the rule about cross posting in a thread about a different program.

I've spoiler tagged them now. I hope that helped :)

I don't think you should be tagging Olly in a thread like this. It's not like he's come in here of his own volition. He may not welcome the spoilers.

Jon Snow is an animal and a really likeable character. He's up there with Arya and Tyrion as my absolute favourite. Loved last night's episode!

If you haven't read the books, then how do you know what's relevant/important/progressing the plot? Right now, it seems to me, the book readers are actually enjoying the show more than you lot. It's bizarre, really.

I really like him a lot as well, though I fear just as with every character I like they will kill him as well. :(

This season has been very ordinary television. What's the point of it all? There's no longer an overarching storyline. Initially it was starks vs lannisters with some interesting sideplots. Now there's nothing, just people traipsing around from point A to point B, cheesy dialogue, gory fight scenes and girls getting their tits out.

Lolz.

Even if that isn't enough I'm pretty sure there is a story line or rather lines and they will come together at varying times before the end of season 7/8/9/whatever.

I really don't get that logic. Also it was widely known before the episode that this was entirely centered around the wall.

If anything, it was good to have an episode that focused on a particular area in the show, for once.

The only thing about the episode that annoyed me, why when the giant managed to lift the front gate did a thousand men not storm in with him? that was the wall breached and 1 man went through  It wasn't like the door shut behind him either, the gate stayed raised!

I'm pretty sure it DID shut behind him.

I thought that was a great episode, with such high production value. It was the perfect way to end Bastard Snow's story arc for this season. Now the final will concentrate on the Lannister family, which is what everyone is waiting for. Well played GOT, well played!
