Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Nah I actually expected him to kill The Mountain and find out who gave the order for killing his sister, leaving it open for the last few episodes of the season . Looking back now It is clear but just the way he died and what was being said among his screams is quite shocking for me and I'm by no means squeamish.

Ned Stark - Dead
Cat Stark - Dead
Robb Stark - Dead
Mormont Sr. - Dead
His own mother - Dead

What were you doing still thinking good characters had a chance?

I know, I really should have learnt my lesson by now. But whenever a good guy is in peril I think it's too obvious for Martin to kill them off and that law of averages suggest they're going to survive.

Like now with Tyrion. Despite everything I know about GoT, I still can't see him getting killed.

It's happening again, isn't it :nervous:

Thought the ending was brutal and grisly but not particularly shocking. Maybe with so many shocks already, it has become the norm.
Yeah, nothing was more shocking than the "The Rains of Castamere" (red wedding) episode from last season. I sat in stunned disbelief at what I had just witnessed long after the credits finished rolling. Oberyn's head getting popped like a bug was more brutal than shocking.

The problem they have if Oberyn's brother is as great as Oberyn is they now have to find an actor that does a better job than Pedro Pascal, who was fantastic

Indeed. He was easily my favourite character on the show (overtaking Joffrey & Tywin) & he will be a big loss. Pedro Pascal did a great job, I must admit I don't remember ever watching him in anything else prior to GoT. I'll look out for him, from now on.

I've become Reek. A shell of a man who, despite all the suffering that has gone on before, still lives in hope of a better tomorrow. Only for these to be dashed in the most painful and humiliating ways.

At least I've got two inches on Theon.

Apparently Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal did an interview a while back and this was one of the pictures.

Not funny, man.

When The Mountain was seemingly defeated I was ready to accept this episode was one of those rare happy endings. Good guy gets revenge, Nathalie Emmanuel's tits, possible Stark reunion, heck, even Ramsey had a nice moment with his pa.

Then George R R Martin went and fecked all that up.

I'm no longer getting invested in the good guys.

That's one of the main reasons the show is interesting. It's not predictable and you never know who will die. Being a good guy doesn't save you. It's not sugar coated. It's raw and unadulterated.

I thought the episode had so much more than Oberyn's death. Sansa's character progressed more in this one episode than over the whole 4 seasons. Arya's situation is interesting too in that since Lysa's dead, there is no reason for the hound to hold on to her. He could very well kill her.
I don't think we're in for a Stark girls pajama party yet.

I assume Ser Jorah won't be getting back to Kings Landing (would the pardon hold value now?) so what's he gonna do?

Are we in for a battle at the Wall?

I think this episode seemed so much like a season finale - so many un answered questions. Wonder how it'll pan out in the actual finale. If it means Tyrion will be dead (as the shock value ending), then this has to be the most brutal season yet.

I obviously knew it was going to happen but it's still made me unexpectedly sad. Poor Oberyn :(

I thought it was brilliant, the proper manic laughter of when so much shit happens and you have such bad luck you just go a little mad and laugh at it (before crying).

Also Red Woman > ex-slave girl.

Edit: double also: Most horrifying death in GoT so far?

I was a bit cringeworthy though. Really over the top. You could tell is wasn't natural.

I have a brother.

Also, I get that the beauty of game of thrones is that the hero doesn't always win but frankly this is a bit annoying. I just knew obryn would lose. They keep making the good guy lose.

Did something officially happen between those two? I saw a few of those "GoT cast relaxing away from the set" type of picture sets and they're always very touchy feely or doing that "smelling the others cheek" pose.

I did think that also, probably because of the accent.

It was so fecking obvious when he was just walking around yelling. For feck sake, we all know he did it so just kill him! Its like in movies when the villain decides to piss about by delaying the kill. Unbelievable, one of the only two characters I like killed off. Going to miss him :(

Also Nathalie Emmanuel

feck.

His scream. His scream. I am traumatised. And I've watched some sick shit in my life but this really hits me hard.

A rant by a mad fan, contains some info about the preview for next episode

There's a reasonable point there somewhere. Like who the hell are we supposed to root for while the supposed good guys are dying left, right and centre?

I didn't mind Ned dying, or Robb fecking things up, but man, Oberynn's death is a real downer. A genuinely good character. What a way to go.

You value him over Ned and Rob ? The Starks are the foundation of the whole show.

I don't mind characters on the good side getting killed, i just hate good actors killed, Oberyn was a really good and entertaining character, in any other show the fans could usually influence the writers to keep a character like that alive, but because the books were written before the show we don't really stand any chance of that, if they kill peter dinklage i'll just lose it.

He's more entertaining though. There are other Starks. Bran is still kicking. Arya's arc is great. But there's nobody else like The Red Viper.

Besides, the manner in which he died....bloody hell. His scream still echoes. I have never been squeamish about things like this, so I supposed it's the emotional aspect of the death that is giving me this sick feeling in my stomach, an hour after I've finished watching the scene.

Question: Did the Mountain die at the end as well? Those slashes and stabs Oberyn delivered have got to be mortal...

I'm not as much shocked by this latest twist (as I was with the Red Wedding) as I am annoyed. Oberyn was a fantastic character, well acted and provided some of the most intriguing dialogue with the two other greatest characters on the show Tywin and Tyrion. I feel the quality of the show took a blow with his removal and it will surely be crippled if Tyrion is killed off as well. With the Red Wedding at least you could say the storyline around Rob and Cat had stalled a bit and killing them off was a necessary evil. With this death, I just can't see the upside. It's left me not looking forward to the next episode as much as I would have with Oberyn still in it, though I obviously want to know what will happen to Tyrion.

Good God.

Yeah, twas a blatant rip from The Princess Bride that.
