Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Tyrion has to survive :( he just has to. Hopefully he is smuggled out in someone's pocket and given sanctuary by Baelish.

Ah I was in a bit of shock so can't really remember what happened. I thought he was trying to hear the name of who told him to kill them so he could declare it as Tywin and then when he was smashing his he's in he said "xxxxx Martell" but I think that's obviously me remembering it wrong.

I was hoping that when he finished the mountain off he was going to javelin that sword spear of his through Tywin's chest.
Why would you want Tywin to die? He's one of the best characters on the show.

Those saying Arya's laugh was a Heisenbergesque "I've gone mad" laugh - not how I saw it at all. Thought it was fairly obvious that she was laughing at The Hound, who for the second time had dragged her halfway across the country to ransom her, only to have the person that was to pay him die at basically the last minute. None of the Starks really gave a shite about Lysa.

Satisfaction and shock value. They've replaced Joffrey well enough with Ramsay, they could do the same with Tywin with Baelish or someone similar.

Rewatching it, just as Gregor killed Oberyn he rolled off him and lay spread-eagled for a few seconds so he may be dead. If it's a draw would Tyrion be acquitted?

Can't see it being a draw. In the end, Oberyn lost the fight :(. Doesn't matter if the Mountain died 5 seconds later and Tywin already announced the verdict. Ffs, if they kill Tyrion, I'm not sure I like the show anymore. They can't do that.

Have they ever actually said it's the first to die? I thought it's always been "a fight to the death."

The only way I'm continuing with the show if Tyrion dies is if Arya goes on to become a monumental badass, slaying everyone on her list and a few other bellends to boot, or if Melisandre and Missandei start doing sex scenes with each other for at least 10 minutes per episode. The show is quickly running out of genuinely likable characters. You can always kill off a few, but there's a limit and GoT have been pushing it for a while now.

Oberyn died first though.
Oberyn delivered the killing blow first. If The Mountain dies, of course. Knowing that turd of a man he'll probably be in the mood for raping Oberyn's woman at the start of the next episode.

Likeable characters left for me are

Tyrion
Tywin
Jaime
Brienne
The Hound
Arya
Jon Snow (Kind of, I enjoy the storyline of the Night Watch and all the shit happening up there)

I think that's it though. I'm not counting smaller ones like Bronn. But I don't think it will be a problem killing off any characters as Oberyn was only introduced this season and everyone loved him. No reason why they can't keep doing something similar although all of them dying would get a bit formulaic.

I've just realised that this must be exactly how Bayern fans felt in 99' :(

Oberyn doesnt care that he died, just as long as he looked good doing it.

Lost a few cool points with the scream though

I can see her committing suicide. I just got that impression from her line before the fight "Don't leave me alone in this world."

Plus ya know, she saw her lovers head crushed like a bug and she will be overcome with grief.

It wasn't shocking in the way the Red Wedding was, because we were expecting a fight & we all know how George RR Martin is, anyway. However, I don't think anything on TV has ever hit me the way that did. Still have that feeling of my heart in my stomach. It's not even that he never took his revenge and slayed The Mountain, more that he lost the fight because he bit off more than he could chew - he had The Mountain on the floor, ready to die, but he insisted on finding out who ordered the murder. To know that he'll die without ever knowing.. :(

It's much more gut-wrenching for me than the Red Wedding, because I don't see the Starks as the 'good guys' & the Lannisters as the 'bad guys'. Both families are obviously trying to have as much control & power as they can (same as any other family, like the Tyrrells or Baratheons, except these two were the most prominent), but the Lannisters simply went about their business in more of a cnutish manner. Oberyn, on the other hand, was a genuine case of good vs evil. Really sad to see him go, easily my favourite character.

Nathalie Emmanuel does not make up for it, although it was a fine consolation. I guess her nude scene was a spoiler in itself - being given something that good, you simply know that for the episode to carry on like that would be too good to be true.

So just realised that the next episode is the ninth episode which usually means killing off your favorite character episode. Let's hope they don't kill Tyrion and Arya.

I'm hoping they're holding back his brother because he's even better

Is that book-talk I detect? :D Kidding mate. For sure, I expect the Martell story to continue - I don't know if they will touch on it for a while yet, but I imagine the case of The Mountain & his sister will be revisited. Pure speculation, though. It just seems like too much to miss out on. The Lannisters are probably not the Martells' favourite people, at the minute - now more than ever.

Also, I couldn't help but think of the significance of that beetle-crushing dialogue between Tyrion and Jaime. The way he smushed his head still makes me :wenger:

Just for the record in case anyone actually thinks it (not you), I've never read the books

Out of those I'd say only Jon, Arya and Tyrion are strong enough pillars to carry the show. Tyrion might be done for very soon. The same with Jon Snow. The Wildlings are about to do some damage at Castle Black, at least. Tywin isn't that likable to me, even if Charles Dance does a fantastic job of portraying him. Same goes for Jaime, even if he's been working on repairing his image ever since... that scene, that might or might not have been what some people said it was.
Brienne and The Hound are both support characters who play off of Jaime and Arya, even if Brienne is becoming increasingly important. For all we know they could both be dead come the end of the season. The Hound has his uncleaned wound and Brienne could easily run into trouble of her own. The show needs to keep Jon, Arya, Sansa, Tyrion, Bran and Daenerys alive, as far as I'm concerned. The last two are important for the story, even if their storylines have lacked a bit of oomph lately. Each of them provide us with eyes and ears at important places in the world, and I feel like Tyrion is the only one capable of doing that at King's Landing. Jaime just isn't the same. Might even be compelled to add Theon to that list, but I wouldn't mind if he brutally murdered Ramsay soon and died spectacularly right after.

Oberyn might still recover.
Just a flesh wound.

So I'm pretty sure The Mountain is going nowhere till he's had it out with his brother the Hound over the face wound and he's on Arya's list. You'd think at some point they'd want the little and large thing between them so I'd be surprised if he's going anywhere before then.

Maybe that unsullied guy had an undescended testicle and they just hacked the scrote off.

Joke's on the Masters, I guess.

Fair enough, I just don't remember him ever being mentioned on the show - that's all. No worries.

Do people think The Mountain is dead? As @Ekeke said, it would make sense to keep him in the story because he still hasn't faced the Hound, yet. Also, as I said in my last post, perhaps the Martells are still not done with him? Again, this is all speculation. He looked pretty dead to me in this episode.

I'm pretty sure now that they'll not kill Tyrion in the next episode- All the major characters being killed off were "shock value deaths" and killing Tyrion now, when all the evidence is there for us to see that he should be killed (Tywin's announcement that Tyrion be sentenced to death) doesn't seem likely.

But then I also thought Ned Stark won't be killed.. So :(

If he's dead, technically didn't Oberyn strike the first mortal wound and win the fight.

Or am I clutching at straws :P

Either way, the injuries should be enough to slow him for his next challenger to take advantage.

I think Oberyn was introduced as a prince that is not an heir to the Dorne, despite being the prince, which means that he has an older brother/brothers

Yeah remember they were expecting his brother who they wanted as a guest for the royal wedding. He didnt come

No. The loser is the one who dies first - the other one will die anyway and it doesn't matter for the result if he would die because of old age or because of the fatal wound from this fight. Seriously, what's with you people? Tywin said that the Gods made their will clear - and they did. He lost fair and square.

When Tyrion was welcoming Oberyn to the city, he said that he was expecting his brother. Oberyn said he had a stomach bug or something and he was there in his place.
