Was the beetle story foreshadowing the Mountain?

I thought at the time it was just symbolising how brutal the world they live in is and how everyone seems to want to kill everyone for their own reasons. I'm probably wrong though, foreshadowing The Mountain seems more likely.

No. The loser is the one who dies first - the other one will die anyway and it doesn't matter for the result if he would die because of old age or because of the fatal wound from this fight. Seriously, what's with you people? Tywin said that the Gods made their will clear - and they did. He lost fair and square.

I was joking you numpty. Grab a hot water bottle, an aspirin and a fresh tampon.

That's good to hear - it's just that you weren't the first or even the second to suggest that - so I was answering not to you personally but to this opinion. It's hard to spot a joke for me here, sorry

Anyone have any thoughts on the significance of the beetle dialogue? Foreshadowing of the Mountain squishing Oberyn or something that has yet to be explained?

Thought it tried to convey the fact that even all the mindless violence have some sort of logic and reasoning behind it and it and those who try to seek reason behind it is often lost and cursed in not finding the answers.

Where is Dorne? Looking at the map below, it looks like it should be south of Pentos, but it isn't labelled. Daenaerys has covered all of the land to the east.

It might be far south of Westeros actually, looking at that. The Sea of Dorne might stretch far southwards.

I'm going to hazard a guess that it's the bit of land below and west of the "Sea of Dorne"

What with Oberyn's accent and complexion, I wouldn't have thought he's from the same relatively small land mass as the pasty folk in King's Landing.

@Joemo from the GoT wiki:

No spoilers but Wibble told me to put wiki stuff in them
Dorne contains the only desert on the entire continent of Westeros, and due to its arid climate it has the smallest overall population. Dorne is therefore also ecologically very different from the rest of Westeros. It is the only part of Westeros where citrus fruits grow. Dornish wine is also highly prized throughout all of Westeros, and considered to be among the best imports available.

Just finished watching and Oh my SHIT! That has to be the most brutal death in the show so far right? When the mountain was on his back I thought that he might be able to do something but not that! Sick ending and god knows what will happen to Tyrion now. The rest of the episode was really good, Sansa turning to the dark side, Lord Friendzone getting sobbing his way out of Danny's company, Ayra's crazy laughter and most importantly perhaps is what the feck is going to happen to Tyrion? Unpredictable as heck this show is!

Emotion got the better of Oberyn, maybe he shouldn't have had that wine before the fight. Wasn't he the red viper, why was there no significance of him being the master of poison?

At least Sansa and Arya might be reunited and the Hound might just stay there to be part of the army Littlefinger is going to build?

The significance was earlier on in that he was a chief suspect in the Joffrey case?

Isn't Oberyn's death going to be a big issue for Tywin? Tywin made a big deal out of wanting to bring Dorne back into the fold and I have to think this won't help.

Oberyn died but he willingly participated in a battle to the death so the main people at Dorne can't say he was murdered or anything.

Actually, this might lead to Tywin protecting Oberyn's lover now. If he really wants Dorne's help, killing Oberyn's widow isn't a good way to go about it.

I just watched the episode - and wowowow what an ending, what an episode!
I loved Oberyn for the brief period he was part of the show, Sansa is becoming a favourite of mine.
Arya just continues to be great, felt really sorry for the Hound though, but that scene was hilarious

Good for you, Geography loves a trier.

Meh, you've read the books, of course you know where it is better. My logic was sound. Now bugger off before you spoil something other than my day.

I think Oberyn was introduced as a prince that is not an heir to the Dorne, despite being the prince, which means that he has an older brother/brothers

When Tyrion was welcoming Oberyn to the city, he said that he was expecting his brother. Oberyn said he had a stomach bug or something and he was there in his place.

I remember Tywin mentioning how Oberyn's brother had gout so he wasn't able to attend the wedding.

Right you are - I stand corrected. If he is anywhere near as cool as Oberyn, then we've got a potentially great character to come.

Cheers guys.

That was delicious I have to say. She has some arse on her

When The Mountain was seemingly defeated I was ready to accept this episode was one of those rare happy endings. Good guy gets revenge, Nathalie Emmanuel's tits, possible Stark reunion, heck, even Ramsey had a nice moment with his pa.

Then George R R Martin went and fecked all that up.

I'm no longer getting invested in the good guys.

Martin is a sick sick man no doubt

The problem they have if Oberyn's brother is as great as Oberyn is they now have to find an actor that does a better job than Pedro Pascal, who was fantastic

No I saw a pretty picture. I can't read. Only type, somehow.

Ned Stark - Dead
Cat Stark - Dead
Robb Stark - Dead
Mormont Sr. - Dead
His own mother - Dead

What were you doing still thinking good characters had a chance?

The ending is surely one of the most shocking in TV history? it was so fecking brutal, probably one of the most brutal things I've seen on TV.

What made it worse that I was sure the viper was going to win, after the speech last episode and the possibility to save one of the most popular characters and to get revenge for his family, It seemed like the perfect scenario. Nope.

Thought the ending was brutal and grisly but not particularly shocking. Maybe with so many shocks already, it has become the norm.

Surely you saw it coming when he did the whole "lol you're about to die but I have to do something first before I actually kill you" thing. Granted it's usually the reverse - the evil guy revealing his plans for world domination with the good guy on the brink of death.
