Gabriel Jesus - United and others apparently meet release clause

Jesus joining the Devils, only the Lord knows what he's thinking :nono:

Did you see all the tricks he has in his Arsenal ?

Yeah but Memphis had plenty of tricks too whilst at PSV and from the usual goal/skills videos memphis looked 10x the player this lad is

If he comes to the premier league he strikes me as the type of player that won't adapt very well. This kid won't get the time on the ball to do all his tricks and that seems to be a big part of his game judging from these clips.

So did Ronaldo and Nani who both got sufficient time on the ball to pull of plenty of tricks here when they first arrived. The big question for this kid is whether or not he has a football brain (or at least an aptitude to grow one) and whether he's a hard worker. Its only then when the tricks and creativity begin to consistently pay off.

I can feel Gabriel coming to Old Trafford.. oh lord

Strange signing. Our conversion rate is actually fairly high. We need to up our chance creation stats.

Haven't seen any indication this is real. The link in the OP just redirects to the main page of the Brazilian paper with no sign of an article.

My stepdaughters 20 year old boyfriend (Andrione) is a professional footballer coming from São Paulo. When he was a couple of years younger his former youth team played against Palmeiras youth team and as a defender Andrione was up against Gabriel Jesus a couple of times. He don't remember anything special from those games but he later heard about Jesus and that he was very talented.

Andrione says that many local top coaches regard Gabriel Jesus as maybe the most talented Brazilian player since Neymar. But the opinion about him is divided because many question his attitude and hot temperament. He has a reputation to be aggressive and that he sometimes lose his focus. Andrione says that if can he mature a little bit, work on his temperament, then he have a very bright future.

They say that his style is similar to Neymar but maybe a little bit more direct in front of goal. He has excellent boll control, a low gravity and knows how to score, the downside is that he's a little bit lazy in his defensive contributions.

According to Andrione it's probably all about the money. Its common knowledge that most Brazilian players prefers to play in Spain but United is also a very good option. Today the majority of Brazilian players knows that we often present the best financial packets and money talks very loudly in these regions. So fingers crossed.

24m a punt? Really?

Kante for 7m is a punt, mahrez fir 400k is a punt

24m is not a punt

Good write up, I have not heard much about him for awhile. It is good that he is still regarded as one of Brazil's best youth talents.

15 goals in 54 games is shit for a striker. In quite a few of those hightlights it looks like he playing as the furthest forward attacker. Thats pretty average mate. Whats the point in paying 24 mil for a player who is as good as someone we already have just because he can do a few flicks.. Neymar scored 50 or so in 100 or so gamed before he got a move to Barca. Do we need to sign another average Brazilian? No.
He isn't a striker.

For a club like United it sort of is becoming a punt, being conscious about money has to be thrown out the window when it comes to united transfers.

Never heard of him but clips look promising.

Similarities to Aguero. Can't believe he is 18 years old. Seems able to play with his back to goal and makes some lovely diagonal runs that Aguero always makes. Able to protect the ball on reception.

It would be very interesting to see how he would do in the Premier league, would certainly be the most challenging step up from the Brazilian league.

The PL has lost touch with reality tbf. Gabriel Jesus is very well known across the globe btw, no way does a club get him on the cheap like the names you mentioned.

has @fontaine responded in this thread yet? I remember him saying so many good things about him a couple of years ago.

If you refer to me, i dont mean the classic punt. But more like a punt on a talented player that can become a top class player. He is not a sure thing and that reflects the price. It is 19m pounds for a talented Brazilian forward. We paid 15m for Rojo and it didnt hurt us. Worth taking the risk if we believe in his abilities/Mou wants him.

Markovic cost Liverpool about £20m I think. Punt's not quite the right word but it's about the going rate of young, widely known attacking talents that aren't sure things.

I can't wait for the Old Trafford faithful to be belting out a rendition of Kanye West's "jesus walks" or "jesus, christ he's a superstar!"

Rojo is not worth 15m! He's cack

If it works, it works. 24 m euros really isn't that much considering how much money United have at their disposal. The thing is, we have to take risks sometimes. Bayern made a risk with Douglas Costa and it paid off. If it doesn't so be it, it doesn't matter. If there is even the slightest chance we could sign a potentially great player for less money than they'd cost in 5 years then we have to take it.

Yeah but Ronaldo was different class you could tell when he made his debut he was something very special.

Nani was always very inconsistent he could produce a moment of magic and brilliance but then he'd disappear for the next 5 games and nothing he did would work.

I'm not against signing this kid if it happens the suggested price isn't too bad but I just have a feeling he will flop because I don't see the anything special enough from those clips the last thing this club needs is another memphis on its books.

You compare him to wingers. He will be useful, even if he doesnt turn out to be the next Davids. Think he will bring something to the midfield that we missing, with potential to improve in the next years

Totally agree, can't see what all the fuss is about. I'm sure we could get someone better than him from the European leagues.

He's not really a winger. I'm not sure about his best position.. maybe Aguero mold.
Although he did play well in RW at the U20 world cup where Brazil were 2nd place and deserved to win imo.

The difference is that Bayern waited till Costa matured a bit and bought him at that time, not after he scored on his debut and then did very little for Gremio. By the time Bayern bought him I know he had convinced me enough of his quality to think he'd be a good player for us or another club and like the clubs who refrained from buying him when he was playing in Brazil, I saw him as more hype than substance until around 2013.

For all we know had they bought him straight from Gremio, it may not have worked out for him. He certainly got more time to improve in Ukraine than he would have at Bayern and there are other examples of good players who either didnt take their chance at Bayern and came good afterwards, or were never given enough of a chance, like Hummels.

People seem to have unrealistic expectations, the world's best players are not going to join us in our current predicament, signing a young, hungry player (who is very highly regarded by most media outlets and Brazilian based fans etc.) is exactly the type of signing we should be making. There's a chance it might not work, that being said, we could sign Messi and there is a chance it might not work - there's always a risk involved in buying a player, but I'd much rather us look to bring in talented youngsters who want to play for us then waste our time with players who have no intention of joining us. Ultimately the same was said at times about Martial and look how that turned out, sometimes the step up is exactly what is needed for a player, however young they may be.

Think you wanted to post that in the renato Sanchez thread, Gabriel Jesus isn't a centre mid.

Nowadays it is for a club like United.
We get nearly £100million a season from the new TV deal. Around £20mill from our league finish, £55mill from Chevrolet, £75mill from Adidas then you have all the noodles and tractor deals blah blah blah. That's before you even start talking about money from ticket sales and merchandise. 10 years ago £18million (his release clause according to this article) might have been a big deal but it really isn't anymore. We pay just under that much to Rooney each season to play for us.

I am not saying we should sign the player - hell, I have no idea who he is. I only wanted to point out that it's ridiculous to look at a young players goal-ratio and decide he isn't good enough.

I must admit I have a hard time thinking of many others than Fowler and Owen who scored regularly at the age of 18-19

Looks like there are a few "average" players tearing up Europe at the moment despite their "shit" goalscoring ratios when they were young.

Gabriel Jesus 15 goals in his first 54 games, 0.28 goals per game
Leo Messi 26 goals in his first 70 games, 0.37 goals per game
Neymar 14 goals in his first 48 games, 0.29 goals per game
Luis Suarez 20 goals in his first 60 games, 0.33 goals per game
Christiano Ronaldo 11 goals in his first 71 games, 0.16 goals per game
Wayne Rooney 17 goals in his first 77 games, 0.22 goals per game
Anthony Martial 14 goals in his first 63 games, 0.22 goals per game
Zlatan Ibrahimovic 17 goals in his first 47 games, 0.36 goals per game
Paulo Dybala 20 goals in his first 66 games, 0.30 goals per game
Antoine Griezmann 6 goals in his first 40 games, 0.15 goals per game
Marcus Rashford 7 goals in his first 14 games, 0.50 goals per game
