Preferred by Gabriel Jesus, Manchester City are in advanced negotiations with Palmeiras to sign the 19-year-old, who's currently with the Brazilian national team preparing for next month's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Manchester City are believed to have a verbal agreement with Palmeiras for the €32 million transfer of Gabriel Jesus. According to Globo Esporte, leaders of Palmeiras and representatives of the English club have maintained contact, and people who follow the negotiations believe in a positive outcome soon. Gabriel Jesus has also been monitored by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but the youngster has his heart set on a move to Manchester City after a telephone conversation with the Spanish coach Pep Guardiola. Manchester United came to express their interest and, through intermediaries, had promised to make an offer of €38 million for the Brazilian revelation, but the interest has not been formalized, yet.

In the mean time, Barcelona are trying to use Neymar and change Gabriel Jesus' mind. Both players are training at Granja Comary, and should play a major role in Brazil's quest for Gold next month. According to the people involved in the negotiations, Barcelona wanted Neymar to approach Gabriel, with messages from club coach Luis Enrique and Andrés Iniesta. But Gabriel was mesmerized with the phone call from Pep Guardiola, and the impression is that, only a twist now can change the player's mind.

As per contractual terms, Gabriel Jesus has a €40 million release clause, but it drops to €24 million for Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Palmeiras can be forced to sell Gabriel Jesus after the Olympic Games. UOL Esporte had access to the contract between Gabriel, Palmeiras and his agents. Clause 4 deals exclusively with the subject and makes it clear that, after August 22, Gabriel and his managers will have even more power to decide the player's future. For the clause to be exercised, a proposal of at least €24 million from a foreign club is required, after the Olympics. To reject an offer along these lines, Palmeiras [own 30%] must buy 70% of the remaining economic rights of Gabriel. If they fail to do so, they're obliged to sell the player.

It'll be either City or Barcelona but Fernandez effectively said Barcelona have dropped out due to the rising fee - I suspect Pep sealed the deal

That is interesting that the release clause is lower for us.....

If the player and club agreed to this it suggest Jesus would prefer a move to one of the clubs mentioned?

Interesting business for City, this guy and Moreno. Both rated highly, both may take some time to see games. Odds would seem good on at least one of them making it big, and neither are crazily expensive.

Sane too if you believe the rumours.

I think this guy is to become more of a ST than RW/LW.

This guy will make it.

Gabriel Jesus is one of those ever more rare cases of a player who, prior to joining the academy of a major club, in this case Palmeiras, went about cutting his teeth in frantic kickabouts on the streets of his Jardim Peri neighbourhood and in the fiercely competitive Sao Paulo amateur leagues (futebol de várzea), where he would do battle with defenders often much older than himself.

“I played street football from the age of seven and later went into the várzea," said the attacker, who joined Palmeiras' much-famed academy in 2012. "Sometimes I'd play as many as three or four matches a day: I couldn't get enough of it.

"It'd get to the point when my muscles would cramp up. It's football. I can't put my mind to anything else. I'm not interested in hanging out or partying. For me, it's all about the pitch: training, playing. But even when I go home afterwards it's football the whole time. I think I'm obsessed!”

Oh well, we never wanted him anyways, his not that good, all the stories about our interest were made up by City's publicity department to make their fans think they got one over on us after Pogba turned them down.
Yeah he's not good
Sure he isn't. That many clubs would not have been after him if he didnt have potential/

I don't believe these reports that we were after him, Pereira was better that him in the U19 tournament last year, if we have no room for Pereira then surely there no room for him

Very excited about this signing, looks like Pep's pulled off a real coup in convincing him to join.

Looks talented but I hope he flops at Citeh as much as Robinho did.

TBF lots of players have potential. He looks a talented player but by no means one who has the potential to be one of the best in the world imo. Not to add, signing Brazilians is always a risk, they have a knack for never turning out how people assume.

They have hoovered up the best young forwards on the market this summer in Jesus, Moreno and Sane. If they all go through of course.

I think Dortmund have done well with Dembele and Mor, especially considering the fees )I think Mor will turn out to be the best signing by anyone this summer when looked abck upon in 3 years). Think in Perreira, Rashford, Januzaj and Martial we have very good young attacking players anyway, though wouldnt mind a right sided player, hope there is truth in the young Mexican we have been linked with.

Its a lot of talents like him. Some make it, most dont. Tbf on the kid, I hope he does great. If he do, he will be off to one of the big teams anyways.

Pep can be annoyingly persuasive, as we found out with the Thiago transfer as well.

Based on YouTube evidence he looks like a nailed on world star in the making. But as we all know, there are so many other factors that play into the final product. Will be interesting to see how he develops in the famed Super Elite Fantastic Boomshakalaka Look-at-our-facilities-m8 Shake-is-staying-forever-lad Kelechi-Iwantanacho-is-one-of-our-own Development Squad.

Who are the big teams?

Its a club who can get the best players in the world. United are the most famous club in the world and we can attract big names even if we dont got CL. To be fair, we are one of the big. After us its Real, Barcelona and Bayern München. City has some way to go to get in our league. Some great years with money from rich owners dont change that.

Like Aguero?

Aguero is a great player and a loyal one as well. Not many like him in anymore.
