It's a stalemate and there is nothing united can do at this moment to resolve the issue. Wait and hope, or walk away.
You think ETH would accept that?
No, that's why he'll be turfed out on a big money loss within a couple of years. If a player doesn't want to come and is this adamant that they don't fancy it, it's best we move on.

United’s leading summer transfer target “liked” a post on the social networking site from one Barcelona fan that expressed unhappiness at the way the Catalan club have handled the situation with the Netherlands midfielder. De Jong flew to Miami with the rest of the Barcelona squad at the weekend for the start of their pre-season tour but the club - who have agreed a £72m deal with United to sell the player - have made it abundantly clear they want him to leave. A potential move to Old Trafford continues to be held up as a result of the £17m De Jong is owed in deferred wages by Barcelona after he accepted a temporary pay cut during the coronavirus pandemic.

Just been listening to Graham Hunter and the issue is Barca's wage bill, and how much they need to force the issue with FDJ. Do any of our experts in here know the scale of Barca's wage problem, and do they have a strict deadline, as to when they need to comply with La Liga, in order to register their new signings?
I still don't believe FDJ wants to come, but how much pressure will they exert on him - do they have alternative options should FDJ stay i.e. will moving on likes of Depay, Aubmanyeng and Braithwaite suffice in terms of wage cutting exercise??
Oriol Domenech mentions De Jong at the moment refusing to leave but in a follow up tweet mentions 2yrs worth of deferred wages being an issue.
Why do people like you keep peddling this bollocks? Him wanting to stay at Barca has nothing to do with him wanting or not wanting to come here. It's quite simple
1 - Above all else, he'd prefer to stay. They owe him a lot of money and they're his dream club
2 - He doesn't want to take the pay cut they want him to take and fore go the money he's owed
3 - If 2 can get resolved with him staying, that's his preferred choice and he'll go for it
4 - If 2 can get resolved but only if he goes, he's happy to come here and work with ETH again
5 - If 2 can't get resolved amicably, he'll probably stay anyway and make them honour his current contract
Point is, him wanting to stay at Barca is nothing to do with him hating the idea of coming to Utd. They're not mutually exclusive.
The whole thing's a fecking mess, though. We should've never bothered.
I'm sure we were also given assurances from Ramos, Fabregas and plenty of other players that took us along for a ride as well.
Here is a very elaborate thread about Barca money issues.Just been listening to Graham Hunter and the issue is Barca's wage bill, and how much they need to force the issue with FDJ. YesWhy would he or his representatives give us assurances he is willing to come? What do they have to gain from that? A new contract? The only new contract he is getting offered from Barca would be a massive reduction.
So either:
One of those scenarios makes sense to me, the other two don't.
- We have spoke, he has said "no" and we are still pursuing him.
- We haven't spoke after all this time, and we have no idea if he will come, which means we are either still negotiating a fee with Barca or we have agreed a few but just refuse to offer him terms.
- We have spoke, he has said he will come, but he is not leaving his €17m on the table and him and Barca are locked in a game of chicken to see who will pay/walk away first.

Actually regarding Fabregas saga, I still remember back then many people saying along the same lines, that we won’t pursue the signings had we not receive positive response from Fabreags camp, and hence the deal would eventually realized. To be frank, there were never any assurances from those players except the media. The media always links us to players who are possibly available, have star value and are playing in positions that we need.
That's sort of what I was inferring yes.Do you mean relevance as in, they can then pay off FDJ in order to make him leave and therefore get the £60m ish from United?
Why isn’t it news?
I believe he's been paid what he's owed but he signed a contract that lowered his pay for the past two years but raised it for the next two years to compensate. If he leaves now he essentially doesn't get the compensation for taking a wage cut over the past two years. He signed a contract worth x amount of money for x amount of years. They owe him every penny he hasn't been paid up to this point.
I have to hand it to you. You are the ultimate FDJ muppet.I'm wondering if de Jong was included on the tour to drive home that he's not going to be a full on starter anymore. He might get a few minutes but thats it. Or nothing at all. I'm wondering if they hope it'll break him down a little and cause him to soften his stance on wage payments.
Pure opinion of mine though
Graham Hunter is a Barcelona fan and is saying that it’s mostly FDJ fault because he wants to prove himself as a top player at Barcelona because As I previously suggested, he’s not exactly been brilliant whilst playing there. The club see him is the most logical sellable asset for raising funds and reducing a bloated wage bill.Just been listening to Graham Hunter and the issue is Barca's wage bill, and how much they need to force the issue with FDJ. And yet his club are still maintaining (and not whispering) that it’s impossible for him to stay unless he drastically reduces his wage.
That's my understanding too. I think he's well within his right to demand that money, although he's probably not legally owed it if he restructured the contract in that way.I believe he's been paid what he's owed but he signed a contract that lowered his pay for the past two years but raised it for the next two years to compensate. If he leaves now he essentially doesn't get the compensation for taking a wage cut over the past two years.

Scenario 1 and 2 make no sense at all and would be a pointless waste of time all round. Scenario 3 is where we're at right nowWhy would he or his representatives give us assurances he is willing to come? What do they have to gain from that? A new contract? I'd say there have been saga threads more mentalThis thread is absolutely mental; you love to see it
No I'm afraid that honour goes to @Berbaclass. He is the ultimate king muppetI have to hand it to you. You are the ultimate FDJ muppet.
There is already evidence of this with Timber and Brobbey to a degree. In for both players, realized it won't happen and promptly walked away to pursue other targets. We also have to realise this is Manchester United. We have a history of doing this, chasing players and not getting them.
I know this is a new board and recruitment team, they have to show they have changed.

Well Barca can't just decide to lower his wages unless he agrees to it, which he won't. They have a legally bindning contract just like any employer/employee, and the terms must be met unless BOTH parties agrees to a revision. The fact that Barcelona seems to be splashing cash around them buying lots of new players sends a pretty shitty message to De Jong.
WhyLock the thread for a couple of weeks, nothing will happen.
