That's not what I said. I said he probably didn't outright say no to ETH but kept his options open. That has given us the motivation to push it, along with Barca being willing to sell. But, FDJ just doesn't really want to leave and had started setting up his life with his soon to be wife in Barcelona.

Yeah this could be the case. Truth is though we don’t know and there’s certainly lots going on behind the scenes and at Barca which makes this complicated.

I think what United do next will indicate where we are with it.

Genuinely don’t see us dragging this on without knowing it will be resolved.

FDJ already has a home in Barcelona, so it makes sense that his wife goes there first. Anyway he can't shift to any other country till his situation is resolved and finding a home in another country, considering Brexit, is not so straightforward. It is logical that he awaits the resolution of his existing contract before deciding on his plans.

You’re right, but Barca can only drop his wages 50% by Spanish law anyway, it’s not enough to suit their purpose even if he would agree.

Forgot about that.

We're getting him 1000% then.

They can't register their new signings unless he leaves.

He'd prefer to stay, but he doesn't want to leave unless the deferred wages are settled. Only sport(which is nonsensical either way) has run the report he doesn't want to leave outright.

I wonder when the next big update will be

Now he's gone on tour, I suspect not for a while?

Its a blinking contest. I doubt if anything will happen for a week or so. So the social media footie experts will no doubt regurgitate old stuff or make new ones up to fill in the dead air.

Worst case? He’s been told to leave the club depending on who you believe. Aside from that his sale has been negotiated already - not exactly a welcoming feeling is it?
And all evidence points to the fact that he still wants to stay.

That doesn’t quite add up though. Barca are trying to push him out and have agreed a sale price. If he doesn’t want to go knowing the club are pushing him out he has to take a firm NO stance. He has to be the one to reject us and shut down the links. The fact he hasn’t means he knows he will probably end up here before September.

Can only go with what's in the media by reliable people. Oriol Domenech was the guy who broke FDJ to Barca in 2019. Are you suggesting you know more than Romero and him? And Fabrizio has said he doesn't want to take a pay cut. And again I ask do you then think we're being lied to or being strung along?

And Romero has also said no way Frenkie joins, so are you saying you only believe things you want to believe?

Of course it does because that's what's publicly available. What's said privately is another matter.

If people want to believe that ten Hag would aimlessly chase a player knowing he has no intention on coming then they're free to believe that. Just as I'm free to believe that ten Hag has all the assurances he needs to push on

And Romero has also said no way Frenkie joins, so are you saying you only believe things you want to believe?
Has he? He's said his preference is to stay but he'll need to take a pay cut to do so, as was reported by Laporta

Show me where he said "No way" he'll join. He's only said he wants to stay same narrative of all Spanish people.
Same guy said it's "95% done" BTW

As much as people rag on the board's execution during transfer windows, there's no shot they'd agree a fee with the club if there wasn't assurances from the player/agent.

It's simply nonsense. We'll get him at some point during the window.

He could quite easily put an end to this himself by publicly stating his intentions to stay. He hasn’t.

No point in that. Hes getting plenty of social media coverage and clicks, so is Barca, so is United, so are the ITKs like Romero etc. Makes perfect sense to let this ride all the way through to deadline day.

How do you know what he has told Ten Hag? Are you involved in those conversations?

Manutd met with the agent, they have clearly tried but they think they can get him. Barca are using United.

People think Frenkie is in the driving seat, in reality its Barca, they have told Frenkie if you want to stay reduce your wage, otherwise we have accepted an offer from United.

Its been a week since the offer was accepted and personal terms are not even close, the player clearly only wants to stay at Barca.

What will probably happen is that he will bow down to Barca, reduce his wages and stay.

You mean that you think Frenkie has been telling ETH that he doesn't want to come -- and that ETH is just mind-feckin around with Arnold? And getting both Arnold and Murtough to jump through a bunch of hoops for laughs?

And all evidence points to the fact that he still wants to stay.

The reason why we are in for him is that him wanting to stay is not a stubborn desire, it is a situation dependent desire. If FDJ wanted to really stay, he could have accepted the paycut from Barcelona.

However he did not, which is why he has no choice but to leave. We would not be in for him if we knew that he was going to stay regardless of what happens.

Exactly, which is my point that he is not reliable.

I'll trust Ducker/Stone over any Barca media or Romano(who's getting his info from the Barca media in all likelihood)with their reporting on this story.

We'll get him.

Not for Frenkie it doesn't. If he just wants to stay and stop all the speculation he has the power. Yet he does nothing and stays silent.

He is. He can have a tendency of making outrageous claims but he gets things right more than wrong. The reception amongst Barca fans on Twitter about him is the same

Clearly he doesnt want to come if you think Romero is so reliable, like you have said in your post.

The pay-cut he'd need to reportedly accept is illegal by Spanish law I think.

They have to sell him to register their signings.

And he could have easily publicly came out and addressed his lack of desire to join us as so many in this thread think he has.

He doesnt need to accept paycut. The contract stands as it is.

There's nothing Barca can do to cut his wages

He never said it was 95% done actually he said there was a "95% chance that De Jong signs for Manchester United this summer".

Clearly he doesnt want to come if you think Romero is so reliable, like you have said in your post.

I think he gets information but can also be used as a mouthpiece for Barca. As soon as it comes from our reliable English journos I’ll believe it.

We've obviously been in contact with De Jong and his agent so if he genuinely has no desire to come to United he would of said so and we'd back away from the deal like we did with Timber.
And for people saying he's keeping us as an option in case Barca force him out he's got a contract so if he wants to stay there and reject the pay cut there's nothing they can do.
Only thing that makes sense is he's waiting for the money they owe him before he agrees to leave.

If EtH is convinced FDJ will come and is constantly talking to him, its right that we dont just spend on any alternative for short term.
Weve seen it before (although in other circumstances) where teams wait an extra 6 months or a year before getting the player.

I dont think FDJ would string along ETH like this. I think patience is the right one on this if we do have an agreement with Barca on this. Barca cant force FDJ to take a paycut as long as there is a contract there. Likewise FDJ is better off just staying and not forcing this through, especially with Barca signings players as they are.

If FDJ changes his mind and gives up the owed money, or takes a paycut, then thats on him (and it will suck for us). But it makes more sense to expect he wont do that by now (cant see it as a case the longer this goes on, the more likely he will fold)

Seems clear he does not want to be here... its got DI Maria 2 written all over it

I'd rather go for Tielemans - could probably get that deal over the line pretty quick and at less than half the transfer fee / wages being spoken about for De Jong

Exactly. Like us, he is also waiting on how Barcelona is going to resolve his contractual situation before he can move on. The way I see it going, Barcelona is walking on a trip wire.

As far as I know this is the last time he publicly commented on the rumors:

Following the Netherlands 2-2 Nations League draw with Poland, a Spanish journalist asked, “Are you going from the beaches of Catalunya to the cold of Manchester?”

The question drew a laugh from De Jong, who replied: “No, I think I can’t say anything yet.”

Clearly he doesnt want to come if you think Romero is so reliable, like you have said in your post.

What you have to question is, why hasn't de Jong come out and publicly said he wants to stay. If he was serious about it and had no intention of going, he could have done an interview, which I'm sure there's been opportunities, saying "I'm not leaving Barca, I'm going to stay and find a solution"

He's not. Everything saying he's staying is coming from the media and what he's told team mates apparently. He's not once said in person he wants to stay
