They're going to cite the interview of another person who stated De Jong's intentions.

You know the drill.

Tom Collomosse of Mail Sport asked De Jong about his future and the links to United after the game, the Dutchman replied with;

“You’re always flattered when teams show interest in you as a player, but I am at the biggest club in the world at the moment”

De Jong added;

“I feel fine there [at Barça], so… no news.”

Seems clear he does not want to be here... its got DI Maria 2 written all over it

I'd rather go for Tielemans - could probably get that deal over the line pretty quick and at less than half the transfer fee / wages being spoken about for De Jong

The problem with Di Maria is that he had faced personal issues in terms of the house burglary as well as LVG losing his patience with him. FDJ will have a more positive situation with ETH and I hope he finds a better home than Di Maria.

Di Maria had a preference to join PSG over United initially once Real were kicking him out.

De Jong doesn't have a preference to join another club over United in this scenario.

So the comparisons make no sense.

It does because ultimately Di Maria was willing to leave, FdJ would rather cut his own bollocks off than join United.

It is the correct statement to make. He can't publicly write off Barcelona until he gets clarity in his situation and Barcelona is his dream club.

Like i have mentioned, the situation is beyond him wanting to stay there. Barcelona are in a financial mess where they can't afford to keep FDJ, unless there are last minute injection of funds.

Yeah the club wouldn't agree to a fee if they didn't have assurances from his side.

I simply refuse to believe the club would do that.

So, he's also willing to leave, but the caveat is Barcelona owe him money.

Technically they don't unless there's some kind of clause in the contract but we don't know that do we? It will feel that way for him that's for sure.

Di Maria reluctantly joining us wasn’t even a problem, he started the season on fire. The reason he turned shite is because LVG turned ultra conservative after the Leicester game.

Of course they wouldn't. We look amateurish quite a lot, but if we'd agreed a fee for a player who had absolutely no intention of joining, at any point, we'd look beyond incompetent no matter how we spin it

Why do people like you keep peddling this bollocks? Him wanting to stay at Barca has nothing to do with him wanting or not wanting to come here. It's quite simple

1 - Above all else, he'd prefer to stay. They owe him a lot of money and they're his dream club
2 - He doesn't want to take the pay cut they want him to take and fore go the money he's owed
3 - If 2 can get resolved with him staying, that's his preferred choice and he'll go for it
4 - If 2 can get resolved but only if he goes, he's happy to come here and work with ETH again
5 - If 2 can't get resolved amicably, he'll probably stay anyway and make them honour his current contract

Point is, him wanting to stay at Barca is nothing to do with him hating the idea of coming to Utd. They're not mutually exclusive.

The whole thing's a fecking mess, though. We should've never bothered.

I'm sure we were also given assurances from Ramos, Fabregas and plenty of other players that took us along for a ride as well.

yes, but they owe him in the future, not in the present. Every player gets payed on what was agreed on so far.

No they owe him wages that were deferred. Basically there are a few ways to resolve this.

1) FDJ agrees to terminate his contract by mutual consent without wages being paid.
2) Barcelona pays his wages by a stipulated deadline by indicating it as a new condition added to his current contract which is approved by the player.
3) Manchester United agrees to include the deferred wages as part of their transfer deal so that they can buy out his contract.

What you have to question is, why hasn't de Jong come out and publicly said he wants to stay. If he was serious about it and had no intention of going, he could have done an interview, which I'm sure there's been opportunities, saying "I'm not leaving Barca, I'm going to stay and find a solution"

He's not. Everything saying he's staying is coming from the media and what he's told team mates apparently. He's not once said in person he wants to stay

He clearly wants to stay. Also, people saying Barca need him gone, look at the players Barca want to get rid of, they are not on their pre season party to US.

I'm sure we were also given assurances from Ramos, Fabregas and plenty of other players that took us along for a ride as well.

To be frank, there were never any assurances from those players except the media. The media always links us to players who are possibly available, have star value and are playing in positions that we need.

This transfer is not going to be worth the effort. If he comes, he will sulk and then feck off in a couple of years for a loss

At what point do we send Barry and the lads round to FDJ's house with some fireworks?

bartha is the biggest indebted club in the world.
as evidenced by the huge pile of money they owe frenkie.

Correct me if wrong pal but he has come and said that he's staying at barca, doesn't want to move so it's a nothing story

He signed a contract worth x amount of money for x amount of years. They owe him every penny he hasn't been paid up to this point.

Ramos certainly took the piss, but thats the kind of guy that he is.

Fabregas wanted playing time from what I gather. He would have come but he got what he wanted and Barca had no intention of selling. They told us to piss off on several occasions because we kept trying over and over

Do you really believe that he wouldn't have spoken to EtH saying he wants to come?
Would United still be here waiting?

It’s reported that Tielemans and Neves are the potential alternatives who would be attainable.
Both of them have no where near the same quality that de Jong does. Struggling to find a midfielder that can do what de Jong does and play his role perfectly.

The problem with Di Maria is that he had faced personal issues in terms of the house burglary as well as LVG losing his patience with him. FDJ will have a more positive situation with ETH and I hope he finds a better home than Di Maria.
His form really fell off a cliff after the home burglarly. His wife was already not keen on Manchester, we all know how much stress can be brought on by the other half even when you're at work!

Anyway, it didn't help when LVG starting doing weird shit like playing 3-5-2 system and playing Di Maria as one of the 2 strikers in an attempt to replicate Robben and RVP with Netherlands the year before. It was blatantly obvious Di Maria wasn't comfortable in that role.

This cannot be worth wasting an entire window over, surely. Especially such a critical one.

There are good premier league proven options out there who massively improve our lacking options in midfield. We should be making moves whilst we can, they won't be available forever.

No he hasn’t. Please show me the evidence of this.
Do you really believe that he wouldn't have spoken to EtH saying he wants to come?

Calm down chaps...I'm in the camp of wanting him to come. I said correct me if I'm wrong cause I wasn't exactly sure. I seen to remember something early in this thread where he said he's happy at barca and it was a nothing story

Absolutely agree. Not the same quality. But they are better upgrades on McFred so I can see Utd falling back on them as backup transfer options.

Apparently people believe were chasing him blindly

We also have to realise this is Manchester United. We have a history of doing this, chasing players and not getting them.

I know this is a new board and recruitment team, they have to show they have changed.

The only comparison to Di Maria is if he comes here but is determined to leave after a season or two. We'll be then forced to offload in a cut price deal. Perhaps finishing 5th would be a big issue for a player like FdJ and a second season in Europa.

It sounds like a pretty convoluted situation. There were some stories doing the rounds saying de Jong and his agent don't want to express any desire to move if it jeopardises him getting the money he's owed.

That would make sense to me. Otherwise this story would've gone dead weeks ago already.

I agree that in the past we have done exactly that, but we wouldn't go as far as agreeing a fee for a player for us to have no idea if he actually wants to join. That's just stupidity of the highest level possible. It just wouldn't happen.

Conversations have obviously taken place and de Jong had said he's happy to come if the situation can be resolved. Of course his preference is to stay but Barca can't make that happen without a huge pay cut and he won't take that.

I wanna believe they won’t be stupid enough to do that. But at this point that’s just wishful thinking.

I'm still sticking to Mitten's prediction. 60% chance the transfer happens and another two or three weeks of rinse and repeat stories.

We potentially have over a month more of this saga, God help us.

my advice, check /r/reddevils for the tweets to be posted and then come back to the latest thread page on that day. Or potentially, scrolls through each thread page and only stop when there are new tweets.

Saves me a lot of hassle either way.
