After seeing how Ten Hag lined up in the training drill yesterday, I'm going to read too much into it and declare that we might see this midfield this season :

---VDB---FDJ
-----Eriksen

Three hardworking, technically strong midfielders who never lose the ball. Against weak teams, it might work.

I think that too, Fred jumps in instead of VDB when needed and Bruno instead of Eriksen. Or Bruno will be 1st choice.

if we'd beaten "weaker" teams last season, we'd have made top four: just one point out of Watford, losing at Palace and Everton, held by Burnley and Southampton

I'm starting to hope they want all the new signings for the Aussie leg of the tour.

That's my Muppet bias talking but I really hope Frenkie is done by the Perth game.

Yeah agreed. Fred/McT or even Garner might be used when we need a more defensive support, instead of VdB. And I'd wager that Bruno starts as first choice, but slowly Eriksen will take over.

Who is pastor, Fred? :)

Seriously, why are you guys leaving Bruno out? I cannot believe the amount of dis-respect he gets from United Fans.
Club has given VDB quite a few chances, did not work out at Everton as well.
And Eriksen, whom no club fancied when he was available for 20 m (this is not even considering the effect of his injury)

Bruno is sole reason club put up decent results for the last couple of seasons.I was unhappy too with his performances last season, especially with his constant losing possession but if we gave him enough rest and used correctly last season he would have done better.

I still think if we do get FDJ another midfielder will be bought in. Bit like Malacia a cheap young up and coming. Someone not mentioned yet.
I dont think at 25/26 McTominay and 29/30 Fred can get any better technically, and this is the type of player TH rightly wants to play.
Whether we have a youth player ourselves who can step into the berth. As TH said about Iqbal he was surprised he hadnt been given a chance in the first team, maybe someone from the youth will get a real chance. Maybe Garner?

Because Eriksen might fit ETH's football more than Bruno?

Bruno excels in a counter team, and keeping possesion is not something he is good at. He will have to adapt. Its not crazy to suggest it might take him a season to get used to this new playing style(just like how City's players take time to adapt to Pep). I'm not saying Bruno is a bad player, or he wont be first choice.

Eriksen, VdB and De Jong all know possession football very well.

Haha, got damn near crucified for suggesting this midfield since VDB and FDJ featured in the same impressive Ajax side and are likely to be reunited at our club.

ETH did say we were still looking for "midfielders" and offence. Whether midfielders means fdj and Eriksen is yet to be seen.

Well we supposedly already got Eriksen, so lets hope he meant FDJ and other(s).

Eriksen is a baller and ETH is not Ole in his system Bruno is kind of a square peg in a round hole. His erratic nature is going to effect the team in possession its just what he does even when hes playing well, there have been well reasoned arguments about starting him at CF just so he is far away from it as possible.

Looks like we can chalk up another transfer that took two months of negotiating only to end up paying them what they wanted as well.

Ten Hag likes his team to keep the ball. Bruno likes to give that ball away. Its Hollywood or bust with Bruno.

With VDB, Eriksen and FDJ, Ten hag knows what he's getting and has worked with those players before.

Eriksen is a baller in terms of technical ability and ETH is not Ole, in his system Bruno is kind of a square peg in a round hole. Precisely because Bruno is going to effect the team in possession its just what he does hes a disaster waiting to happen, there have been well reasoned arguments about starting him at CF just so he is far away from it as possible.

Well that's not at all what happened? They wanted £85M + addons, we are paying them £46M plus £14M in addons that will in essence be paid directly to de Jong.

Why is it that some clubs/countries continue to roll out talented players and others don't? Baffling.

Barca produce these talents every season - but only a handful actually become world beaters. There are plenty of Tello, Bojan, dos Santos, Romeu, Assusin, Munir, Montoya type players. No matter how people try to spin it, it's risky to bet on 19 year olds being able to continue their progression and go from wonderkid talent to world class star. Barcelona have had plenty of seemingly fantastic wonderkids, only for them to completely fall off the planet by not progressing as one would hope.

I don't think that's correct, is it? All I've seen mentioned is €85m all the way through this saga. The talk of €100m etc was rubbish. But I've never seen the figures that you're mentioning.

When Bruno came into the team, team was indeed playing counter-attacking style. We did not play in possession style. So Bruno's job was always to create something when he got the ball which resulted in those Hollywood passes when things did not work out.
For playing possession football, you need people with good engine and passing skills. I dont think you will find a player better than Bruno.
I think he will excel in ETH tactics, but yes lets wait and see.

I was amongst those who gave up on this deal 200 pages ago so i'll be so happy if this goes through. It's obvious he doesn't want to leave but hopefully he can be convinced and we can match his expectations over the course of the season. What a signing if it can be pulled off. Fingers crossed.

Can you post the ETH training line up please?
