In this day and age, when was the last time you heard 2 clubs had ageed a fee but the transfer failed because the player couldn't agree terms?

Nearly every high profile transfer nowadays starts with the club agreeing terms with the players agent before the club starts negotiating with the club. It's not permitted, but everyone does it.
newcastle and ekitike very recently, but tbf we don’t know why talks broke down.

i’d be absolutely shocked if we had got this far though for him to say nah you’re alright lads

especially since ETH knows him well and we've already done a deal with Frenkie's agent this summer. There's simply no way we haven't got assurances that he's willing to come and that personal terms won't be a huge issue.

Utd don’t chase him for months without actually having a conversation with him to see if he’s open to coming and what kind of terms he’d be happy with. This is a done deal.

I feel like FDJ and his agent basically told Utd that they want Barca to sort out his owed wages and don’t want to show Barca they are happy to leave. Hence why Utd have let him resolve those issues first.

Im guessing today was the key day they were waiting for when FDJ returns back to training to have the key conversations.

i thought the issue was with Barca and Frenkie?
Overall, yeah, but it meant that United couldn't progress on getting a total agreement with Barcelona until then. This recent update indicates that major progress is being made to resolve that issue.

This is done. It’s time to watch again his 10 mins against us when he was just about emerging,

Really hope he can transform our play.

So fee agreed and now just left to Frenkie to accept... hopefully there's an agreement on his deferred wages too. I'm still mentally in the "I'll believe it when I see it", while at the same time would be surprised/gutted if it fell through... Really hoping for the best

Can’t see us going to all this trouble if we didn’t know De Jong was willing to come to us. Matter of time.

Clearly there has been a Skype or Zoom between these two and Ten Hag over the weekend where he told them go to Barcelona and make this deal happen, don't come back until it's sorted.

Would you want to disappoint an angry bald man screaming at you :nervous:

I can’t be arsed to read this thread. Did something happen ?

The reliable Barcelona journalists are now reporting that both United and Barcelona have agreed on terms for Frenkie de Jong. All that's left is for the player to agree on the personal terms.

All that's left is for both clubs to try and persuade him to leave. Not quite the same thing.
That last part was more based on what the English journalists have been reporting, who've previously stated that personal terms basically won't be an issue. Of course, the Barcelona journalists will lag behind in that aspect given that some of them have been pushing hard the narrative that de Jong wants to stay.

Well, let's hope the English journos are right. I wouldn't want us to sign a player that would rather not.

I bet a new clause will be inserted: The signee shall not accept any deferred payments of his salary under any circumstances including claims of Force Majeure or any acts of god or any similar deity of equal standings.

Honestly I can't believe we're signing him. He's easily one of the most promising young midfielders in the world. He has the potential to reach Modric level heights. I sure hope it coincides with as many trophies for United.

It wont; nowhere close. But it's definitely a great signing that will improve the side

Modric didn't single handedly lead Madrid to its success, Real Madrid's all round world class team did. It was a collective effort. If De Jong is the first of many exceptional to world class players to arrive to United then trophies certainly aren't out of reach. Let's just hope our recruitment from now on will be a lot better than it has been for the past 10 years.
