The journalists are out with United in Thailand right now. I assume one of them has got it direct from Murtaugh that the issue is purely on Barca's side (as we all already knew)

Barca either need to sell him, or make him accept a HUGE pay cut. He isn't likely to accept that, so for sale he will be.
Ignoring that Murtough was never on the tour I see

Same, but I still won’t believe it till this one’s on manutd.com

I need to see it 100% myself, but I think it’s really close now. It will be done since both clubs want this and the player himself would be happy to reunite with EtH.

Howard Nurse just tweeted "Chelsea then" and a picture of De Jong.

I was just about to say the people in charge have been lacking in this saga.

No title updates, no threadmarks, no nothin'!

Then, like a fountain in a desert, a title update appears!

I don’t want to get my hopes up that’s all. I’d prefer a brief by a reliable English reporter

I agree with keeping the vast majority of Spanish reporting at a distance, but Ducker confirmed yesterday "the club sought assurances from the player" and that is why we are still going.

Barca basically hit JM with the ‘I only talk to bosses not the second in command’. Murtough went and called his boss and Richie Big Bollocks came and handled business.

He'll feck both clubs and refuse the transfer. Then Barca will get desperate and sell him at a discount to Chelsea.

The deal is done between both clubs and the add ons are settled according to Domenech.

Is it possible that the convincing part is not just about accepting United offer, but also for de Jong to accept how Barca would pay for his deferred wage? We should already done the first part before we made an effort to sign him

We haven’t discussed personal terms so that part is remaining. Hopefully that is the convincing part

If they were the add one they wanted, does it matter if it goes into Barca's accounts, or Frenkie's?
No, not really. If all Barca are receiving is 55m in total then that’s fine. I assumed this was on top of the 55m+ performance related add ons we’d already heard about.

I would presume the convincing was done a while ago by ten Hag.

Most likely we have agreed to pay more in guaranteed fees so that Barca can cover their ass and give the deferred payment to FDJ.

In this day and age, when was the last time you heard 2 clubs had ageed a fee but the transfer failed because the player couldn't agree terms?

Nearly every high profile transfer nowadays starts with the club agreeing terms with the players agent before the club starts negotiating with the club. It's not permitted, but everyone does it.

Yes that part looked odd when it was reported. Maybe its down to convincing the player about of how the deferred salary will be paid
