Not sure about this yet but it seems that the Telegraph have said that Fdj has just given some encouragement to United by saying that he's open to joining.
Anyone else saw this or is it speculative?

What's so Jesus about it?

Absolutely untrue about Haaland.
They just triggered his clause.

If two months ls nothing for you it's over the top for many people.

And it seems that you don't get embarrassed at all.

Ridiculous comment with no quality in it.

Well those teams concluded their dealings immediately.
And its been know for a number of years that we take ages to get the players we go for. Were you happy with Woodward and the way he went about his job?

I haven't seen one decent quality comment from you here yet.

My friends, I have the right to comment just as much as any of you and I stick to my opinion and many others that this has been embarrassing for our club. Go to twitter and you'll see what the majority of United supporters all over the world are commenting and they certainly agree with my view about this.

Do you really believe Twitter represents the majority? And do you also believe that majority represents reason? And do you even think opinion is independent of reason?

We know he’s open to joining, unless you believe our new manager is a mindless moron.
Of course I know that Eth wants him although today he lost his patience and told the club to speed up the transfer process. So it seems he agrees too that things are taking to long.
And to answer your question:
No i dont think he's a mindless moron

That's what I thought, strange wording as if de Jong signs for us then it wouldn't be €88.5m, just the reported €17.5m that he's owed.

Nope, the article says €88.5m for some reason, I'm putting it down to poor wording from Luckhurst though.

I believe the 88.5m includes his wages, deferred wages, and loyalty bonuses through until the end of his current contract.

The deferred part is the 17m he is possibly, or possibly not, due if they decide to sell him, depending on how his contract is drawn up.

If he asks to leave that could be a whole different scenario, so he won't be saying that anytime soon.

And do you have a direct line to Arnold and Murtough and know much more than anyone else of what's actually going on?

Did ETH actually say those words specifically? It doesn't seem like something a manager would say to the press, certainly not that's been in charge for only a month.

The journalists are out with United in Thailand right now. I assume one of them has got it direct from Murtaugh that the issue is purely on Barca's side (as we all already knew)

Barca either need to sell him, or make him accept a HUGE pay cut. He isn't likely to accept that, so for sale he will be.

In what world would we submit a 80m euro bid for a player without making sure he actually will come?

Of course Frenkie is going to publicly say he wants to stay. Otherwise barca won't give him a cent of the pay he was supposed to get during the covid years.

Come on. Read between the lines. This deal has been done a LONG time ago from our end. Its now up to barca and Frenkie's agents to come to an agreement on the backpay.

He didnt.
And tell me this:

How would anyone here or anywhere know if he did or he didn't?!
We all read and view media here and there and it's up to everyone to decide to believe or not.

You seemingly read enough gossip by now that you should be able to rationally read it though. Obviously some is more worthy of paying attention to than others. Of course people can believe what they want, if they choose to feed into clear crap, its their decision.

I agree with you.

In this world, we spent a whole window attempting to sign Dybala who publicly stated he wanted to stay in Italy, for years we have seen this, Benzema, Ronaldinho, Lahm, Moura, more recently Ramos to name but the few I can think of off the top of my head.

I applaud your common sense, but our track record of pursuing unrealistic targets, who would prefer to be at other clubs is there to see window after window, there are many players we get linked with who just use our club in order to obtain contracts but there are undeniably players who we try to sign who make enough noise publicly that we should back away and save face.

Obviously what they say in private discussions may be to the contrary, but come on fool me once.....

My guess is they'll likely spread the cost out over 3 or 4 years to ease the burden

FC Barcelona: "Today we are pleased to announce that we have decided to pull our 43rd economic lever - the 'not paying our bills anymore' lever. As a result of this, all of the clubs who thought they were were getting money from us for the players they sold us a few years ago, now won't. Have a nice day. Mes Que Un Club."

Well you wrote he said that. How do you know that?
Last january some media was saying that Ronaldo would leave if we didn't get CL football and they were rubbished at the time.
Lately Rangnick verified this and we all know what's going on with Ronaldo now.
So not everything we read or see is shite or true.

This makes no sense whatsoever.

How can a club facing financial ruin spend £200 million on transfers?

Or barca fans will be saying... clearly we are not in that much of a financial clusterfeck as you United or English fans like to think.

I said earlier, its a political theatre we are now embarking. Half of what is being said is for domestic consumption. Feed the masses happy pills.

Exactly. FDJ has a long standing relationship with ETH. He's not going to mess that up and we wouldn't be still talking if he wasn't giving definitive answers to him.

All the rest is posturing, PR and spin. It's just annoying that the crucial cog is likely to be the last in.

I agree. So you just invented what ETH said out of thin air?

So if I understand correctly...

Barca are ruined financially, and have sacrificed their long term earnings to get back to the top immediately. FDJ is a backup on massive wages. If Barca want to spend 200m on new starting 11 signings, he needs to go.

Our bid of 55m, rising with performance bonuses, was probably good enough ordinarily.

FDJ was happy to stay, but knows he is being forced out. If he is to leave, he will want Barca to pay the wages he is owed.

This additional cost impacts Barca's plans to spend 200m, and forces them to re-evaluate. They might want to delay the issue until United buckle and pay FDJs wages owed to push the deal over the line, or until FDJ foregoes wages owed.
The whole process is pretty damaging to Barca, as clubs will be less likely to want to deal with them, and might unsettle other players with wages owed.

But it is also damaging to us, as we've transparently placed all our eggs in FDJ, we aren't moving on and we aren't signing other targets in case Barca request more money and suddenly we can't afford them. Which is why Barca are leaking news to the press that they want him to stay. Also, if we cave in to such demands, we will be seen as weak negotiators and it will likely make future transfers more expensive and/or drawn out.

It's a very tricky situation with lots of moving parts. I think Barca will buckle in the end, and we might be able to buy another key player by waiting, but our first choice targets might move on and there is no guarantee that we will get FDJ even if we wait.

My preference is to pay a bit more, as a final move, to sweeten the carrot (given he's so important to our new style of play and I want him ready for the opening fixture) alongside a final deadline, but it isn't my money and I have no idea what Barca are saying internally.

You think they'd actually have a press conference and talk on the matter? Nah they'd simply not give a shit. The room would be packed, lights shining on the stage, a huge roller blind hangs above the desks. Laporta would come out, sit down, press a button and the blind would unravel, displaying a big middle finger with the words "vete a la mierda" at the bottom as a loud ta-daaaa fills the room. Laports gets up, straightens his jacket and pisses off without a word.

Kounde, Raphinha, Lewandowski, Alonso, Azpi, Silva/Neves is over 200m.
Not to mention the wages. They are willing to pay all these new guys lot of wages but don’t want to pay their own player who is under contract and who helped his club during the covid time by taking a 10m paycut. What a bunch of cnuts.

I read somewhere Laporta also whinged to Boehly about please giving them Azpilicueta on a free even though he still has a 1 year contract.

I must say, begging is a rather bold transfer strategy.

The embarrassment is Barça, actually that is a massive understatement.

We trying to sign world class players that can improve us and are exactly what we need, how is that embarrassing?

Embarrassing would be signing Tielemans or Neves for huge fees. We ain‘t doing that.

Embarrassing is the constant whining of infantile supporters who lose their cookies every time a bs tweet comes out.

I would be embarrassed to the point of turning against my club, if I was a Barça fan.

In this world, we spent a whole window attempting to sign Dybala who publicly stated he wanted to stay in Italy,

Well you’ve completely made that one up. Juventus actually approached United in an attempt to make a swap deal for Lukaku using Dybala. That was in at end of July 2019 when the deal was agreed, and less than 10 days later United pulled out of the deal due to the sense that Dybala didn’t want it.
You’d assume Juventus would’ve checked with him first before offering and agreeing such a deal but once United started talking to the player they very very quickly moved on. It’s basically the exact opposite of what you’re saying, and why most people here believe there is no chance we haven’t sounded out FDJ to have gone this far into a deal.

The other players mentioned such as Ronaldinho absolutely were interested in a move to United, however they received offers that they found more attractive. Ronaldinho again was very close to coming and it was only the presidential election of Laporta & Beckham saying no to the Barça move that he ended up going there instead of United.
