Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think that is the scenario here. He has signed a deferred wages contract where-in he is entitled to only receiving small amounts in his first 2 years. And the compensation for the first 2 years, kicks in only in the 3rd year. So if Barca has paid him the low wages for the 2 years, they have honored the contract. They don't owe him anything right now.

But if he refuses to go, then they are forced to pay the compensated wages in the 3rd year, which they are trying to work around, by selling him to us. But FDJ wants to be compensated adequately, for doing Barca the favor of going away.

In which case it's not deferred wages, and would be called a wage bump, and not deffered wages. Deferred compensation is a very specific thing where someone agrees to not receive full payment of rendered services until a set date or over a period of time through installments.

That is why the discussion makes no sense. He isn't asking for a wage increase that won't be triggered until his third year. He's asking for wages he has already earned, but deferred because Barca asked if they could delay payment until a financially more viable moment. There is no scenario in which they can simply decide to ignore this.

Essentially he agreed to be paid 60%, then 30% of his wages for a few years, with the rest being owed him and paid back at 3% interest. The club still owes Pique €50M and Messi €52M.

Are the players not bothered, over 100m in wages, do Barca expect them to forget about it ?

The sooner you get away from that abusive relationship the better off you'll be Frenkie boy...

Even Lionel fecking Messi wanted to finish his career with them only for their own incompetence and hubris to feck it up in the end. If he's expecting a happy ending with Barca then he hasn't been paying attention

Just ran Lluis Canut through the translator and it came back with 'Lying cnut'
Nice

Pique will be the next one soon

No serious reporter has claimed Barca refuse to repay deferred wages, at most they mention disagreements on bonuses and timetable. That is well worth noting.

For Barca it is very simple - have de Jong on his current wage + deferred compensation = €28M before bonuses. Making their weekly commitment to de Jong €600k a week. Or sell him, pay out his deferred wages and sign players that would enable them to compete in Lewandowski and Raphinah for significantly less.

However, Barca are skint, so they will argue and negotatiate on every possibly bonus they can think of in order to save money and pay de Jong the absolute minimum they can get away with.

Can't see how they stay competitive or even stay afloat over the next few years. Their financial situation is catastrophic. All this deferred stuff and levers will catch up with them

I am not so sure. Even if they are deferred wages, there will be a contract, right? Wouldn't it spell out clearly what he is entitled to?

And if Barca are legally responsible to pay him his earned wages, then what is he staying there for? How will that help him? He anyways needs to sue Barca or do something equivalent if they refuse to pay.

If they're in Barcelona, you'd think we'll have an end to this one way or the other within the next day.

Only if La Liga enforce hard rules. If La Liga continues to act as if Barca and Real are their daddies, then that is no use.

Please let this go through. He is essential to ETH's way of playing. Im so sick and tired of Barca, vile club.

The first day De Jong is back at Barcelona and suddenly our CEO and DOF are at Barcelona? hmmm what a coincidence
