A question for anyone who knows : If Frenkie will hopefully move - Can he still sue Barca legaly ?

Personally I know that if a player go to a new club - his new contract from the new club cancels the contract from the old contract and because of that won't be able to take legal actions against Barca.
Unless there is going to be some new information - I don't think so. Current reports don't really suggest anything illegal or intention to do anything illegal, just incredibly scummy and incredibly stupid.

If neither Barcelona nor de Jong budge, than the only other options would be United compensating him for that (which would make him probably the best paid player in the league) or the move doesn't happen. Barca terms are absolutely insane.
I think thats something we would have happily done under Woodward, Im not so sure if the same can be said under Arnold.
We would be mugs to even consider compensating him, the only way it could be done would be to drastically reduce the fee we pay for de Jong or eliminate the add ons and pass the saving onto de Jong.

I don't understand all this shit. Why would we try to negotiate his price with Barca for 2 months if De Jong wants to stay?

why would a new contract cancel deferred wages?

My guess

Barca want to sell but want us to pay the backpay so they want the full 85m (or they would also take him if he played for free again) . We want to do 65m+20m and are being firm on that because we know Barca has to sell. de Jong and his agent want the backpay if he is to move and de Jong's agent wants Barca to pay it given they've already started to throw him under the bus.

We wouldn't. Barca are being cnuts about it and want either us to pay the backpay or de Jong to waive it or defer it even longer. They want the 65m cash influx to probably get Lewandowski. 17m from 65m is 48m not enough for them. But that 85m, take 17m from that and they got a 68m cash-influx to spend. They get de Jong fully off the books and register guys like Kessie and Christensen and then can go get some player like Lewandowksi

They would just bench him/put him in the stands, no? I know Xavi likes him, but it would be a club decision.

Like feck they would.

Just like with Dembele in Jan, if he simply says ”no I’m staying & you’ll be paying me as agreed”, he’ll be an important member of the first team.
They achieve absolutely nothing by punishing a guy who reduced his wages for two years by 17m euros to help them out during the pandemic, they’d annoy his squad mates, his manager, weaken the first team and still be paying him a big salary.
It’d be worse than cutting off your nose to spite your face, it’d be like cutting off your dick to spite your balls.

They'll offer him a pay cut with vague promises of distant future riches...and he'll take it.
They want Bernando Silva more than they want him in the team. If the Mundo deportivo article is right, they actually need to sell him to have a chance at signing Lewandoski, before using the rest on Silva. I do believe is De Jong holing up the transfer though, if it's for the money or for his genuine love for Barca is anyone's guess.

This is speculation from online reports, so obviously take it with bucket of salt, but supposedly those deferred wages are in his current contract. And in order to sign a new contract he would have to cancel his current contract under conditions acceptable to both himself and Barca.

Worded slightly different.

Yep I think that proves that the whole love the club thing Is a media narrative to keep on the fans side. If he truly loved the club why would he be bothered if the talks leaked? He'd be firm about not going anywhere so he wouldn't be too bothered would he?

Because Barca are trying to create a narrative and "paint" Frenkie as the big, bad villain that didn't want to take a paycut to save the club that he loves(eventhough he already did)

The fact that a club is actively trying to get him online abuse and weasel out of paying him agreed wages for the work he already did should make every player regardless of their level of club reevaluate the relationship.

feck me, it’s been explained about a million times.

Because he simply cannot stay on his current salary as far as Barça are concerned, and after deferring 17m of wages already to help the club out he’s basically said “feck you” to any idea of renegotiating his wage again.

Therefore it is more than likely that Barça will be forced to sell him, hence why they negotiated with us, clearly with the ok from the player because if his choice is “another huge paycut, or Manchester United/Ten Hag” he’ll be picking the latter. He clearly has no intention of being treated like dirt and having his incredible generosity during Covid thrown back in his face.

From reading posts/links on this thread, it seems that de Jong has signed a new contract that pays him the 17m he's owed over the remainder of his contract (sort of back ended).

If he goes, I'm guessing the remainder of his contract (incl the 17m) is gone.

I don't want us paying for Barca being a bunch of scummy w@nkers but maybe we up offer 5m, De Jong 'writes off' 6m and Barca pay him 11m (5m of which came from our increased fee)... all three parties share the 17m

We're clearly the unwanted party trying to muscle in on some sort of messy love affair.

So in hope he ends up choosing us, and much as he'll be forever pining for his one true love, you'd just hope it's in the form of showing them what they're missing out on, whilst we reap all the benefits.

This is why it is difficult. Barca owes a lot of money to not just players, but for all their long installment buys.

So basically they're screwed in pretty much every way at the moment. No wonder they're desperate to activate these levers. I do seriously wonder how a club as successful as Barca can end up in this situation. I know its due to being irresponsibly run, but still

I'm convinced he's happy to come 100%, but he wants what he's owed. Barca are trying to get out of it, and will pressure him to move, but he shouldn't give it up. I wouldn't.

Time is on his side, not only do they need to lower his salary, but this need to sell him to fund other targets as well.

Barca are a disgrace really. Kicking the can down the road with millions of pounds owed to their players.

I can't see why De Jong would even want to continue playing for a club that have taken him for a ride and now want to dispose of him now that they've signed Kessie and tied Gavi down.

He's a mug if he takes another pay cut and stays where he's not wanted.

Or for the owe money to Frenkie by Barca, united pays and gets another player plus Frenkie out of it. Barca is still asset rich

They will offer him €6-10m net and €3m in back pay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed..

Second time I’ve said that in this thread, but last time I predicted the pay cut.

How long should we wait on this deal?
We need minimum one deep midfielder to control games.
Are there still other interesting alternatives available?

Pretty sure it's been widely reported that he doesn't want to take another cut, and won't do.
It leaves him with the option of finding a suitable resolution and leaving, or staying on his currents terms and giving Barca a huge screw you byt making them pay him what he's owed

Genuinely feel like Even if we did overpay for this guy and helped Barcelona out, we would end up seeing it as money well spent and forget about it. This guy is absolutely brilliant. What he can bring us is easily worth 9 figures IMO.
