What would actually happen if he stayed, didn’t take the pay cut, and just asked what was expected of him? Can he not sue the club?

They would just bench him/put him in the stands, no? I know Xavi likes him, but it would be a club decision.

Caf: We should walk away, he doesn’t want to come, it’s off, why haven’t we got other targets? We should leak other midfield players etc….

United link to other midfielders

Caf: oh god not him, he’s shite. No thanks

Never fecking happy.

What do you mean "We should leak other midfield players?"

Have you thought that maybe there are multiple people here and people can have different opinions?

However this ends, Barcelona have come out of this looking like utter pricks. It's a lose-lose for them. It's embarrassing for them as a club (and a business) for it to have been made public that they've either been unable or unwilling to pay their players.

And still, top players line up to play for them. It boggles the mind

The only draw Barcelona have these days are the debt drawings that are financially sucking the life out of the club day by day. Any player would have to be mad to want to join them. It also baffles me these young players like Gavi signing away their lives on long term contracts in the knowledge that they might not even be honoured a few years down the line.

I reckon we’ll know between now and the first of September.

It's mad. I keep expecting their bubble to burst and it has to at some point...surely? This just isn't sustainable, but they seem to keep doing it with seemingly very few consequences.

That would be true Barca masterclass. Pay him his wages, don't use the player, don't get any good fee for selling him.

Is there a chance that they are delaying for that very point? If De Jong’s transfer is done after that date they’ll be able use the entirety of the transfer amount on new players?

I think it may happen in early August which isn’t ideal to stop our fans baying for blood. However, in my humble opinion it’s not a big deal as he’ll of gotten his fitness up with Barca and it shouldn’t take him long to slot back into EtH’s way of playing again.

Or I could be completely wrong and it turns out a waste of time:lol:

That's what I imagine we're doing. We know we have a strong negotiating position, so we're willing to risk it. Barca played all their cards - Laporta said he'd do his best to make him stay, they faked Chelsea interest etc. We didn't fall for it.

It's still risky - De Jong might change his mind, other clubs can still come in but I think we're playing our cards right. I'd say wait till end of July and say adios and chase backups in August.

Im sure the manager is estatic hes about to play his first pre season game and has 1 signing in, after the squad has lost 6 players since last season.
Especially after wanting signings in before pre season even started
Maybe, maybe not. It doesn’t excuse a bs tweet

I hope we don't get him just so Barca have to pay him.

Feels like we will in a week or two offer to pay the deferred wages for them within our own wage/bonus', which is clearly what Barca are hoping for.

They'll offer him a pay cut with vague promises of distant future riches...and he'll take it.

Same here, it's not even that I don't want United to get him, it's more that I want to see Barcelona burn to the ground financially and get into all kinds of legal troubles if they refuse to pay the man what he's owed. He has zero needs to lower his demands or settle for anything they offer.

If he stays he's a mug, regardless of whether he comes here or someone comes in last minute to take him. They way they've treated him, love the club or not he should refuse to play for them ever again.

Or bleed them dry financially, it's honestly the best punishment, anything else just helps them overall.

Well looks like he's gone then doesn't it. He's already said he's not accepting another pay cut, rightly so

I don't know was that from a good source? If the club formally asks him and still shows up for training then he'll probably play for nothing. But at the same time I have to think his agent would have given us the heads up that he would be staying at Barcelona whatever way it would work.

Who said that will happen?
If neither Barcelona nor de Jong budge, than the only other options would be United compensating him for that (which would make him probably the best paid player in the league) or the move doesn't happen. Barca terms are absolutely insane.

A question for anyone who knows : If Frenkie will hopefully move - Can he still sue Barca legaly ?

Personally I know that if a player go to a new club - his new contract from the new club cancels the contract from the old contract and because of that he won't be able to take legal actions against Barca.
