Can’t wrap my head around a club asking a player to take a pay cut for no good reason other than they were fiscally irresponsible.

It's truly crazy. I said the same thing before during the time of the Messi contract saga when people were saying players should be taking pay cuts for the good of the club. That is complete nonsense. Football clubs are massive, billion dollar financial entities. It's not on the players to make the clubs be responsible, nor should it be the responsibility of the players to take less than their previously agreed wages in order to try to dig the club out of a hole.

If this was transposed onto any other job, where you were the one doing all the work and making money for the company, and then your bosses told you you need to take a pay cut because they made some bad moves with the company money, who would actually accept that and think it is reasonable?

Don't Barca have anyone they can sell to pay for the deferred wages?

Alternatively we could loan them the money and have them pay it back at high interest

I wouldn’t trust them at all to pay that back. Financially they are one of the worst run clubs in the world.

That would mean Laporta can't bring in new names and that would make distracting barca fans from the fact that he's failing to live up to his campaign promises more difficult, which makes him vulnerable in the next election, can't have that.

Surely this totally fecks them in future dealings with players? Absolutely horrible way to do business.

Laporta is so desperate to 1. not pay Frenkie what he's owed and 2. get Frenkie to take ANOTHER pay cut that the fecker likely leaked a players contract to make a point and get fans on side. Nothing about "Frenkie wants to stay" ever sat right with me. There have been so many opportunities for him or an agent to end this saga, especially after the Laporta meltdown. I know he loves the club, but this entire drawn out saga reeks of him actually having decided to leave but Barca are trying to get out of paying him money that is due.

I'm doing a 180 on this narrative, I do not think Frenkie actually wants to stay. I now believe this is sooooooo drawn out because those con artists are trying to stop payments to him.

You'd hope so but for some reason players are desperate to join them.

Raphinia wants Barca
Bernado wants Barca
Lewandowski wants Barca
Kounde wants Barca
De jong wants to stay

I actually dont get it.

Ok now it's easy to see why this is taking long. Barca are trying to screw this guy out of a hell of a lot of money that he is owed

What a scummy club. Why sign these players in the first place if they can’t afford to pay them? I would be embarrassed if I was a Barca fan. Expecting players to keep their loyalty whilst at the same time screwing them out of their wages.

Because mes que un club. Obviously.

Yeah I can see why you want to join them as team, but when it comes down to actually doing contracts, they will have a tough time.

Agents will certainly pay attention and make sure their client's contracts include necessary clauses. I don't think they can pull anything like this on new and future signings.

Lifestyle. Barcelona as a city is fantastic. And of course the club has huge heritage.

However if they were being advised by agents who cared for them and not just the huge amounts of money the club have paid out in recent times, then they might not be quite as keen. The club itself seems to treat its players horribly!

This is why you never accept a pay cut in any role and carry on as normal. They’ll feck you again later on and that trust you may have had thinking ‘well if its to help them then I’ll be rewarded later on‘ is out the window, and you’ll feel like a fool and you should be going apeshit with them at that point, if you didnt at the initial pay cut.

I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life. What would you do if you were stuck in one place, and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?

Every player now knows that even if you take multiple wages cuts, they will "potentially" leak your contract to the media, agree transfers with other clubs to pressure you on further wage reductions. The only thing holding up Barca's draw as a club atm is their legacy.

I am amazed they still attract players tbh.

Surely you don't want to risk millions in wages despite the lifestyle or the city.

I still find it baffling that so many good players want to go there after shit like this.

I understand why players would want to join Barcelona generally. Its a massive club but looking at the players that are so eager to join is a bit weird, when they have so many financial issues.

Unless you are a Spanish player, they have not been treated that well recently.

Amsterdam looks a lot different to how I remember it in that picture.

Granted last time I was there I was after 3 yippers and enough beer to sink a small boat to be fair.

They probably didn't post anything from the Red Light District though

Not buying the contract stuff, it doesn't affect the deal, De Jong can just leave and take them to court for breach of contract and get the money he is owed at some point.

Don't they also owe Pique a feckload of money and recently told him they don't want him to see out his contract anymore, after all he's done for the club? They have absolutely zero morality, it seems, only interested in votes and elections. They're basically just politicians.

There is the chance that he respects the players and fans too much to do unless its a last resort

We want to keep you Frenkie, but if we don't get the players we really want then it will be all your fault.

That would take time, more money and unnecessary stress. Unlikely as it would seem but there would also be the danger that in waiting the club becomes bankrupt and he is left way down the list of creditors.

He wouldn't have to deal with anything, his agent would take care of it all along with his legal team. He'd never have to step foot in court and it would all be resolved in a couple of years. In the mean time he'd have earned a fat wage at United to go with the money he's owed.

So not only they want hip to take a paycut but they owe him some substantial money too.

So it's Barcelona to blamed.
Barca are to blame but we also could have chosen not to focus our most critical summer transfer on a player who plays for them. Negotiating with them was always going to be difficult and we have made it quite clear we don't have any other targets so they feel confident enough to mess us about. If we were progressing negotiations with alternatives they might soon change their stance

Was really excited about this signing but I have no clue if this will happen and if it does when.
Think it is time for us to look at real plan Bs as who knows what Barca is possible off. They would be a downgrade on FdJ but Neves and Tielemans should be explores. Another season with current midfield (plus Eriksen) is going to be painful...need to get a move on.

i don't even understand Barca's end game any more. He's owed a fecking mountain of money, but they are threatening him with a sale to MUFC if he doesn't take ANOTHER pay cut? So what then? They are just never going to pay him? Nothing makes sense here. So when he's owed 100 million in back pay what are they going to do if he stays? threaten to sell him to Bayern?

I'm at a loss to what Barca think they are tempting Frenkie to stay with.
