It seems as though Barca have moved the goalposts, seeing as almost everyone was reporting that the basic fee was agreed.

Unless they’re just doing it to try and appease their fans.. maybe it’s nonsense. It’ll be interesting when the fee comes out from rhe UK journos. Either way, this will get done, I’m sure

Sounds like they want to buy and register many players that cost lots. So I would play it cool now and say this is the deal. Feels like the pressure is shifting

Many posters here seem willing to play the sucker, then complain that the club dallies about or grossly overpays for players. We need to lay down a marker so we don't get toyed about and our new signings are properly embedded during pre-season.

That's not difficult to understand.

I still think that there's a good chance of De Jong joining but we've got to move on to our next target soon as our midfield is in dire need of an upgrade.

If Barça have reneged in their agreement we should walk away. That's no way to do business.
That's exactly how to do business if you have something exclusive and want good payday. They can't register unless they sell, it's posturing. Someone has to go from their roster.

If feel an autocorrect from "mes que un club" to "mess of a club" is in order, to shamelessly steal from another poster in this thread

So we agreed 65m plus bonuses with just the structure to sort out.. now Barca want 75m ?

I want Ten Hag to get the players he wants, absolutely. But this is a weird transfer and I wonder at which point we decide to move on if nothing progresses.

It certainly seems weird. But the reports stating that we had agreed £65M as the fixed sum may have been based on Barca "being positive" about that, not them actually having agreed to it (?). Perhaps the parties are struggling to agree on the conditions for the add-ons and £75M up front is another suggestion from their side in the negotiations?

I think some journalists have sources which are good, but their information may only be partially correct or inaccurate a lot of the time. Also, journalists tend to try to create an angle to "sell the information" to us as news, which may warp the original information so that it becomes less accurate (or, in some cases, totally wrong).

Finally, I would also guess that the sources may share information which is days old or more recent on the same day. We then read news today which is from Saturday last week, while yesterday's news in the media was actually from yesterday and therefore more recent. To us it may seem like the development is good or bad while the opposite may easily be true, and yet the media have actually presented the truth (more or less).

My concern is not so much that we do not get FdJ, but that there seems to be zero talks about alternatives. It would be a disaster do believe we could go into the season with Fred, McTominay, Donny being like a new signing, Garner being ready and Eriksen being seen as another option for a place in the midfield.
That would be a joke.

Exactly. I mean we are chasing a player for 2 months, we are not even sure if this transfer will go ahead.

It feels like its getting further by the day. Its actually a joke how we are dealing with this, a week ago we agreed a base fee, which took over a month to do. We still haven't agreed the structure, we haven't looked at personal terms. There is still a long way in this deal.

How does the club expect the manager to get his team playing without giving him first team signings. 2 signings made that are probably backup players. They are not guaranteed starters.

We need to improve the first 11.

Ok now it's easy to see why this is taking long. Barca are trying to screw this guy out of a hell of a lot of money that he is owed

I thought the figures you quote are in Euros and not Pounds.

Surely this is due to reduced and deferred payments owed to FDJ by Barca (as refered to in this thread as well as others - football-transfers).

"Barcelona then negotiated a new deal for De Jong to keep him until 2026, with De Jong earning just €3m fixed salary in 2020/21 and €9m in 2021/22, giving up as much as €16m in total. That amount is due to be paid across the four years left on his contract."

It sounds to me all this posturing is basically Barca aiming to get their money back and negotiate out of paying the money already owed to FDJ, or getting us to pay for it as part of the deal. Alternatively "Frenkie we'd like you to stay, but you need to waive these fees and sign a new contract on a lesser salary". This might be his dream club, but it looks like they are shafting him.

Just move to a different club and take them to court for the back pay, or just stay there on the existing terms. It's just a big game of chicken between Barca and FDJ.

You would imagine that Barca are going to try and negotiate some kind of settlement with FDJ with regards to the deferred wages he is due and then try and get that money as part of a guaranteed add on from us.
