Why exactly is everyone so insistent that we walk away? You don't put 2 months of effort and negotiation into a deal to just walk away.

Plus didn't the new info say €75 + €12 WILL be accepted outright rather than try to figure out how to structure the add ons? To me that sounds like a fee they'll auto agree regardless of addon conditions. Nothing stopping us from sticking with what we're at now and continuing to find a happy medium as per structure of addons

You would think if there's any truth in Barca now wanting more upfront it will be picked up by the tier 1's too

No, I just want to call a spade a spade. Obviously if we're now trusting this information then we have to ignore Romano and his info that a deal is close and that we've agreed a fee with Barca.

We've agreed nothing with either party if they're both to be believed.

I just can't ignore the obvious in that this is a big contradiction to the info we've been hanging our hat on regarding the fixed fee being agreed. It's better for us if this update is bollocks, because we're now further away.

I apologise if I come across as though I don't want this deal to happen because I do. Meeting because he's ETHs No1 choice. I've just been sceptical of the situation and honestly don't put much belief in these Twitter journos. All I know is not much has seemingly happened in 5 weeks or whatever it has been.
Simon Stone reported we reached a broad agreement over a 65m euro (£56m) fee, plus add-ons

That's not quite the same as definitively stating a fee is agreed. It's saying more or less.

My logic behind that, whether you choose to believe or not is that it's down to his outstanding pay situation and in an attempt to resolve they have asked us to pay a little more upfront.

I'm desperate for us to sign De Jong as he would be the most perfect centrepiece for ten Hag's United. However, if Barcelona are moving the goalposts after it had been widely reported that we had agreed an upfront fee, then I would like us to walk away and refuse to do business with them again. This is not how you conduct business.

They're without a doubt the slimiest club in the world. But I can't help but think they're playing us here until they can speak to FdJ himself and see what they can agree with his wages. If he won't reduce then they'll oil the trigger pretty quickly on this deal and move on.

Do you seriously think they don't already know?

It's no coincidence in the last few days they've started to drag him in public.

It could mean outline agreement on the lot or it could mean fixed fee agreed but add ons not finalised. What are we saying, is Stone likely to have good info? If so then Barca have obviously moved to goal posts and you could be right or they could just be being the b*llends that they are and trying to be greedy.

One thing I will say is that this is likely the final move. They've tried to renegotiate, it'll either anger us and we'll walk or we'll just pay up this time. If we try to negotiate further then...I give up. The more you give these feckers the more they want. It'll be never-ending.

I'm 100% certain we won't walk away.

We're not really giving them more, it's the same total fee!

I've seen worse smear campaigns from the big 2 in Spain. I don't feel like they've completely ostracised him yet, but they've certainly laid their stall out just incase.
Not yet, they most probably won't need to as he will sign for us fairly soon in my opinion.

Really awful club to deal with. They constantly send out mixed messages. Supposedly they want to sell the player, yet at the same time they want to keep him, but on a significantly reduced wage and force him to waive however many millions he is owed. Stupid game that we are unfortunately in the middle of.

We just made it back from Andreas Pereira. I'm sure it's no issue.

Well, not to split hairs, as I've been accused of. But we may have accounted for that price for him if it was our asking price, plus we've signed Malacia for the same money, when a LB apparently wasn't a priority. If we still want a CB and 2 attackers within £120m then I think we'll be stretched. Even if one is Dybala on a free.

But that is our gift to spend elsewhere as we please. Not as a bone thrown to Barcelona as a top up for a player we have already agreed a fixed fee for.

Yeah this is true. The principle of it is all wrong and it's not a good look when we're trying to change our image in the transfer market from a club willing to just throw money around for clubs to make a quick payday.

One way or another I think we'll have a very good idea in the next couple of days.

Completely agree. You don't want to come across as overly stubborn or principled, but at the same time you can't allow these jokers to keep changing the rules.

Well it seems they are asking for more now mate

City will know what Barca is asking for FdJ. And they also know Xavi really want B.Silva -- a bit like how much ETH wants FdJ.
So I can imagine City quoting something outrageous for Silva. And now Barca has gone back to United to increase the original guaranteed price. This way they can make an indirect swap without any risk or maybe actually make something out of it.

Good point actually

I thought the main issue was that FDJ's agent has been avoiding everyone around, trying to make this whole thing more complicated?

Will Utd put up the extra €10m from the Pereira sale or will they compromise somewhere around the €5m mark, so €70m + €20m.

Then we could use the same logic and apply it in reverse for Barca -- they got rid of Lenglet to Spurs... saving or even making a few bucks.

He wont be involved with discussions between United and Barca. So why hang about? Besides, he has other clients too to service and doesn't see this FdJ deal concluding anytime soon?

Am I the only one who worries about their strong interest on Silva? I mean, if City going to find a replacement it’s not very good news for us.

The harsh truth is that Eriksen is the plan B.

Once that is confirmed it’s over for the de Jong saga.
The harsh truth is the contract offer for Eriksen was given to him while we’ve been trying to get De Jong as well. You are clueless.

Or he does not want to move, so he used that tactic to make this whole thing fall apart at some point?

I mean obviously, who knows wth is going in this whole situation.

I realize there has been more reports that the new price is 75m plus add ons… seriously?

Barca/Frenkie is playing us. Stop fecking around. Just walk away.
I love it when posts like this keep insisting “Just walk away” like there an easy alternative to snap up immediately. Especially considering he’s the key player ETH is insistent he wants in order to build the team around.

If we walk away, you’ll be one of the first ones complaining during the season when we still have McFred comedy act. You’ll be saying Feck the Glazers for not backing the manager.

If he doesn't want to move, wouldn't ETH at least get some hint of it? ETH is supposed to be a very good man-manager/motivator, they would run through brick walls for him. That would involve a truck full of trust between the players & managers.

So you have to assume there is trust in the first place. Would he do that to a person he trusts?

Just because he says he is happy at Barca is meaningless. It's a throwaway line.

Andreas Perriera said that he loved Flamengo and their fans and less than 36hrs later its announced that he is off to Fulham.

ETH would know FjD's intentions. Frenkie wont be doing this just to feck around with United. Its serious money involved -- mature people don't do that.

Yes, footballers are known for that.

In seriousness, I would not think too much about his personal connection with ETH tbh. You can't assume anything about how this club has been doing its transfer for the past decade, new people or not.

FDJ could always be diplomatic with ETH while hoping privately that the negotiation collapses. He could always put it on Barca. I mean we can assume that too, right?

Can’t wrap my head around a club asking a player to take a pay cut for no good reason other than they were fiscally irresponsible.

Well, after catching up on the last 34 pages, I've decided it is happening, and have ordered some red Speedos with " de Jong" across the buttocks.

Classy. 3 weeks. From China.
