Simon Stone reported we reached a broad agreement over a 65m euro (£56m) fee, plus add-ons
That's not quite the same as definitively stating a fee is agreed. It's saying more or less.
My logic behind that, whether you choose to believe or not is that it's down to his outstanding pay situation and in an attempt to resolve they have asked us to pay a little more upfront.
They're without a doubt the slimiest club in the world. But I can't help but think they're playing us here until they can speak to FdJ himself and see what they can agree with his wages. If he won't reduce then they'll oil the trigger pretty quickly on this deal and move on.

It's no coincidence in the last few days they've started to drag him in public.
It could mean outline agreement on the lot or it could mean fixed fee agreed but add ons not finalised. What are we saying, is Stone likely to have good info? If so then Barca have obviously moved to goal posts and you could be right or they could just be being the b*llends that they are and trying to be greedy.
One thing I will say is that this is likely the final move. They've tried to renegotiate, it'll either anger us and we'll walk or we'll just pay up this time. If we try to negotiate further then...I give up. The more you give these feckers the more they want. It'll be never-ending.
I'm 100% certain we won't walk away.
We're not really giving them more, it's the same total fee!
I've seen worse smear campaigns from the big 2 in Spain. I don't feel like they've completely ostracised him yet, but they've certainly laid their stall out just incase.
Not yet, they most probably won't need to as he will sign for us fairly soon in my opinion.
It is but it comes out of our budget this year. This is probably why we wanted to agree a fee for him first, which we thought we had.

Really awful club to deal with. They constantly send out mixed messages. Supposedly they want to sell the player, yet at the same time they want to keep him, but on a significantly reduced wage and force him to waive however many millions he is owed. Stupid game that we are unfortunately in the middle of.

But that is our gift to spend elsewhere as we please. Not as a bone thrown to Barcelona as a top up for a player we have already agreed a fixed fee for.

But we may have accounted for that price for him if it was our asking price, plus we've signed Malacia for the same money, when a LB apparently wasn't a priority. If we still want a CB and 2 attackers within £120m then I think we'll be stretched. Even if one is Dybala on a free.
Yeah this is true. The principle of it is all wrong and it's not a good look when we're trying to change our image in the transfer market from a club willing to just throw money around for clubs to make a quick payday.

Completely agree. You don't want to come across as overly stubborn or principled, but at the same time you can't allow these jokers to keep changing the rules.
City will know what Barca is asking for FdJ. And they also know Xavi really want B.Silva -- a bit like how much ETH wants FdJ.
So I can imagine City quoting something outrageous for Silva. And now Barca has gone back to United to increase the original guaranteed price. This way they can make an indirect swap without any risk or maybe actually make something out of it.

I love it when posts like this keep insisting “Just walk away” like there an easy alternative to snap up immediately. Especially considering he’s the key player ETH is insistent he wants in order to build the team around.
If we walk away, you’ll be one of the first ones complaining during the season when we still have McFred comedy act. You’ll be saying Feck the Glazers for not backing the manager.
So basically this deal won't be announced until Barca manage to sell the 15%.
If he doesn't want to move, wouldn't ETH at least get some hint of it? ETH is supposed to be a very good man-manager/motivator, they would run through brick walls for him. That would involve a truck full of trust between the players & managers.

ETH would know FjD's intentions. Frenkie wont be doing this just to feck around with United. Its serious money involved -- mature people don't do that.

In seriousness, I would not think too much about his personal connection with ETH tbh. You can't assume anything about how this club has been doing its transfer for the past decade, new people or not.
FDJ could always be diplomatic with ETH while hoping privately that the negotiation collapses. He could always put it on Barca. I mean we can assume that too, right?
Can’t wrap my head around a club asking a player to take a pay cut for no good reason other than they were fiscally irresponsible.
And then ask the buying club to pick up the tab for missed payments on add ons etc so they dont have to.
