I realize there has been more reports that the new price is 75m plus add ons… seriously?

Barca/Frenkie is playing us. Stop fecking around. Just walk away.
Exactly the same fee but with a higher fixed amount.

Am sure everyone's thing here is walk away, yet if we did and got no one else, they'd be the first to destroy the board

FDJ and Dybala. Seems like a Jose/Ed Woodward summer. Maybe they’ll be class but I have my doubts about it and how squad morale will be if things don’t work out. Maybe Dybala is the clubs attempt to keep Ronadlo happy?

Edit : I still want us to sign FDJ. I think he’s class.
United aren't chasing Dybala. Dybala's camp is approaching Manchester United. Dybala's situation is more akin to Sergio Reguilon's (before his Spurs transfer).

Well it seems they are asking for more now mate
Yeah, this might explain why this has dragged on for a little longer. It looks like Barcelona gave some indication that they'd be okay with €65m before possibly trying to renege on that agreement.

Yeah, they could be asking us to pay some of the money they owe him.

Barca, reneging on an agreement??? Noooo they'd never ever do that, they're a fine, upstanding club!

I feel like he’s going to be shite and more drama than he’s worth. Sanchez 2.0
Poor comparison. Sanchez turned shite because he lost his explosiveness and was physically shot. Dybala is a technical player and his game isn't about speed and explosiveness.

We will see. After falcao I didn’t want Ronaldo, Sanchez, Greizmann (dodged a bullet) or Cavani but he proved me wrong for half a season and then swiftly became what I initially thought he’d be when we signed him. I think he’s going to end up like Mata or something but way more expensive and with more baggage. I hope I’m wrong but I really think you need to be explosive in this league. We keep signing players with big marketability who’ve lost their explosiveness and peak fitness

There are countless examples of successful players in this league that lack pace/explosivness. He's not even that slow either just not rapid. Certainly faster than someone like Mata.

Wait, doesn't this contradict the info you've been hanging your hat on for days regarding a fee being agreed?

Romano and his believers IN THE MUD
Not really the line was that a basic outline of the deal had been agreed. They are asking for a little more upfront instead of add-ons. The same total package. All part of negotiating.

You will definitely be disappointed when this happens won't you

Am I just not clued in, but I had no idea he was seen as a drama? Why?

It’s just he’s a hugely marketed player instantly coming in on massive money. It’s all too familiar. I’m not saying he’ll instantly cause drama but he’s quoted saying he cried thinking about coming here? He sounds immature. Also all the signs are pointing to the likelihood that he’s already physically peaked a few seasons ago. We are paying for the marketing exposure and not the footballer. If it all doesn’t work out fast I bet anything there’ll be drama that we could do without. I wish we signed a player who’s ready to step up instead.

No, fixed fee agreed. Structure of add ons to be agreed. Let's not play silly beggars.

Personally think he's worth paying every penny of the extra €10m we have just made from selling Pereira to Fulham if that gets him to Utd quicker.

Fair enough. Yes. It was reported that it had been pretty much agreed.

So what?

Do you think them asking for what £8 million more upfront instead of in add-ons is going to collapse the deal if he's Erik's number one target?

Obviously, I know you hope it does but the answer is no.

The fact that your splitting hairs over something like this tells me you just want to be negative to be a WUM.

Barca owe De Jong a ton of back wages. That’s going to have to be settled before he moves. My guess is that they don’t have the cash for that and are looking to spread it out or for him to take a deferral on his deferral. I can see this dragging.

My guess why they're asking for a larger initial fee is that they want us to help out with that as part of the deal.

Stop measuring little dicks.

It's a pretty big development, no? Basically we've not agreed anything with Barca or FdJ. I want to talk about reality not listen to people ignore all logic and celebrate each bit of news, even if it contradicts the last bit of news they were celebrating. This isn't even good news and it's being taken as though it means the deal is happening  I feel like I'm in an alternate reality at times with this thread.

Fixed fee and add on amounts were agreed provided the add on structure being acceptable to Barca, if that has broken down then more fixed with less on add ons.

Both this new information and the old can both be correct at time of reporting. Doesn't seem hard to comprehend.

Why exactly is everyone so insistent that we walk away? You don't put 2 months of effort and negotiation into a deal to just walk away.

Plus didn't the new info say €75 + €12 WILL be accepted outright rather than try to figure out how to structure the add ons? To me that sounds like a fee they'll auto agree regardless of addon conditions. Nothing stopping us from sticking with what we're at now and continuing to find a happy medium as per structure of addons

I don't really keep up with Barcelona news. Is this more or less the worst case scenario? Or is this fairly likely? This sounds like a catastrophe.
My scenario would be a worst case scenario which has a 25% chance of happening … Barca are in a precarious spot where they need to remain successful but at the same time lower wages … I’m not sure how buying established players (Christensen, Lewa, Kessie) will reduce wages even if it gives them success. Revenues will be under pressure beginning next season as they have parted with 15-20% of media revenues for a short term cash injection.

 Non of us know what’s going on with Barca. But let’s be honest this is the worst club to try and get business done with.

There local club leak has just come out and confirmed 4 deal which would cost them around €200m. They can’t even keep the lights on.

Yeah, that does make sense. Hopefully this doesn't drag on for a long time, then, because I can see United just moving on from de Jong if Barcelona insist on us paying for some of de Jong's deferred wages.

However you choose to look at the situation, a fee of €85 million in total was agreed. They want to slightly adjust the structure of this. Not really a big development.

If he's the number one target then they get it done and back the manager. The total fee is still the same.

The reason it's taking forever is that they also want us to buy Depay, so that we can finance their transfer window :P

I'm desperate for us to sign De Jong as he would be the most perfect centrepiece for ten Hag's United. However, if Barcelona are moving the goalposts after it had been widely reported that we had agreed an upfront fee, then I would like us to walk away and refuse to do business with them again. This is not how you conduct business.

No, I just want to call a spade a spade. Obviously if we're now trusting this information then we have to ignore Romano and his info that a deal is close and that we've agreed a fee with Barca.

We've agreed nothing with either party if they're both to be believed.

I just can't ignore the obvious in that this is a big contradiction to the info we've been hanging our hat on regarding the fixed fee being agreed. It's better for us if this update is bollocks, because we're now further away.

I apologise if I come across as though I don't want this deal to happen because I do. Mainly because he's ETHs No1 choice. I've just been sceptical of the situation and honestly don't put much belief in these Twitter journos. All I know is not much has seemingly happened in 5 weeks or whatever it has been.

They've not said any of that though. Nobody has reported that.
