Are we signing only midfielders ? Are we not signing players for other positions ? If yes, then what’s the hold up ? If de Jong situation is getting delayed then why don’t we sign other targets? I don’t get it. Seems like we have difficulty in signing every player we want, i’m sorry but that can only be down to incompetence whether in terms of planning or acquisition or negotiation.

If you sign other targets then it may just push up Frenkie's price.

Say for example we sign a non-Nunez level type striker -- Barca will turn around and say: You just spent £60M on XXXX. Frenkie, a regular starter for Holland and Barca has got to be worth at least 80-90M then.

I'm personally against this deal. Barcelona is his favorite club and being told by them he is expendable and forced out of the club is probably pretty upsetting. He also doesn't want to come here and will do so only for Ten Hag, with the expectation of us qualifying for the CL next season. But let's be honest here, our chances for Top 4 next season are slim. If we fail to make it he will probably lose confidence and start to sulk. Furthermore, what if Ten Hag ends up getting sacked at some point or leaves for whatever reason?

And then there's the issue of his wages. They are already astronomical at Barcelona and he will demand equal or more from us. So if things don't go according to plan we will be stuck with another deadwood on eye-watering wages.

I know I will catch flak for this, because "De Jong reeeee", but whatever.

80m + a 350k a week wage for 5 years is ridiculous money especially when we're in the middle of a rebuild. We should walk away now while there are still alternatives available. I'd say let's go for Laimer and Tielemans. They are both available, they wouldn't cost a bomb and they are a clear upgrade to what we've got.

Agree with this we shouldn't be falling in the same trap again and going in one player when the whole team needs a rebuild. We just need to walk away from this deal and get Laimer and Sangare both easily attainable. Then hopefully with player sales get Antony and Timber.

Yeah I don't think people realise how much of a financial hole Barcelona are in. They need to sell players and he makes the most sense.

This time next week, Frenkie is signed.

Then Antony and Timber.

In three weeks ETH does a Fergie and welcomes the three amigos at OT, where they all stand behind him in dumbass white suits and silly haircuts holding a Manchester United shirt.

Then we all fly away in our new airlines sponsor and have a wonderful preseason with laughs and shits and giggles.

It's happening fellow muppets.

Easilly attainable. Yup. Cheaper? Not much.

Significantly cheaper, I think. Mostly in wages, but also the fees. De Jong will be on 350k+. I doubt any of those players will be on more than 200k. Probably close to 150k. Any of these players we can get for 60M total. De Jong will be 80M+ total.

That's not "not much cheaper".

Sangare has a 30m minimum fee clause while Laimer and Tielemans have just 1 year left in their contract. If their respective clubs are too precious to sell on cheap then we can move for Fabian Ruiz and Soler who are in a similar situation. De Jong on an 80m is on ridiculous money especially when you've got to top it with a 19m a year salary on top of it. The two (De Jong and Barcelona) seem to deserve one another so let them enjoy each other company as the former keeps digging a financial crater into Barcelona's crippling financial situation.

Helena Condis Tier 1

She was Tier 1 on Dembele's case, because they were seen together. They had an affair. So her news about him were obviously directly from source. Now in my opinion, she is just exploiting that status she gained. Let's see how long she will remain tier 1 without another player whispering internas during sexy time.

Laimer - £25.20M
Sangare - £21.60M
Total for those two - £46.80M

Transfer budget - £120M - £46.80M = £73.20M

Antony - £31.50M
Timber - £31.50M
Total for those two - £63M

Transfer budget - £73.20M - £63M = £10.20M

Prices from Transfermarkt, yes I know prices can fluctuate for players but it does go to show they are getable at the transfer budget that we have even if we get 3/4 of those players.

 got to love the transfer swing.

Any muppets still alive or have you all jumped off the cliff already

Those are 2000s fees mate

Laimer and Sangare would cost around 30m-35m a pop. We only need one of them. Then we'll partner the guy with one between Fabian Ruiz, Soler or Tielemans at around 30m-40m a pop. That would sort our CM and would cost us less then De Jong.

No agreement on fees between the 2 clubs.. Manchester united are low balling.. Thats the problem i guess.

Considering Spanish press have started printing stories on how FDJ has failed due to his own deficiencies at Barca, his sale had nothing to do with “economic levers” . They need to generate money through sales and FDJ is their best bet. They just bought themselves more time

Laimer not going to Bayern?

This game of poker is messing with my head atleast, I dunno about the guys at the club.

Fair point didn't realise that Transfermarkt kept the fees from 2000s around atleast they could have updated them.

As for the players you have mentioned looks like the scouts are not capable of looking at other players as alternatives to De Jong. They are all capable of enhancing our midfield for next season but I guess we will see.

Pretty much although Laimer could be cheaper since he has a year left on his contract. He is joining Bayern anyway.

Id take Fabian Ruiz all day

The guys at the club need to get a grip and either get it done, or walk away. Or at the very least work on other deals.

The situation is very simple here. Barcelona don't want De Jong. He hasn't fulfilled the expectations set. On top of that they have a financial problem and De Jong is set to dig a 19m a year hole in that problem every single year for the next 4 years. Unfortunately we've built a reputation that anyone can take us to the cleaners. If Leicester can get 80m in cash for Hodor then why can't Barcelona do the same for De Jong?

The only way United can snap out of that is to move swiftly for good alternatives. If Barcelona is left with nothing then they would make themselves look silly and clubs would realise that United's free for all is over. Luckily for us these alternatives do exist. Its up to us to discover them

Wasn't there a story recently that Ten Hag would instruct United to walk away at the end of the week (so today) if no progress was made?

I'll be quite happy to know this is 100% over and we can move on to a realistic transfer which won't drag on weeks and weeks.

As said he hasn't yet signed a contract with Bayern yet. Also Sangare and Enzo Fernandez are still available and they are pretty easy to get.

Shouldn't get any flack, they're all genuine considerations. Hopefully the club know his character and that he won't sulk, plus are able to take the hit on his wages if he does flop. Not that the fans would want it.

Agreeing with your overall point

Jesus wept. Who the hell cares about this latest piece of "good news"? Even if it goes through, it's still going to turn out to be another shit-the-bed signing.
