Jesus wept. Who the hell cares about this latest piece of "good news"? Even if it goes through, it's still going to turn out to be another shit-the-bed signing.

Yeah, we shouldn't bother signing anyone, maybe should shut the club too.

It's painfully obvious Barca are briefing this to try and get more money, but the world and their dog know they can't register their new players without selling or terminating some contracts. It's completely up to them if they want to play hard ball, but I'm pretty sure we'll walk away this time.

Anyone describing these deals as "economic levers", should realise this is just shifting money around. They're not actually generating any more cash, just sooner than expected.

Constant negativity not posted in a constructive way
Hodor  That'a a new one.

He's big, he's dumb, he's slow and he's only good for basic stuff like holding the door. If only Stam was a green seer. He might mind control Maguire so he'll become half useful for us

A reminder to people that the negotiator will take the weekend off so do not expect any progress over the next couple days.

Those are 2000s fees mate

Laimer and Sangare would cost around 30m-35m a pop. We only need one of them. Then we'll partner the guy with one between Fabian Ruiz, Soler or Tielemans at around 30m-40m a pop. That would sort our CM and would cost us less then De Jong.

And if our new manager does not want any of them?

You speak of sorting our CM as if it's FM.
Add that + that and that's that.

Let the man choose his signings, god knows he's in for a challenge with the wankers still left on our payroll.

There it is ladies and gentlemen we wasted how many weeks on this now? pathetic
Optimistic. Be surprised if anything has happened by August.
Dude, we ain't signing no one.....
I didn't... I said from start it was a waste of time & we were repeating all the same mistakes as before.

I got vilified, so far I was spot on.
Of course we will sign people. Look forward to the oil tanker like neves
Bitcoin has a higher degree of recovering than us getting FDJ at this point.
Still think he will go to City/PSG over us, hopefully i’m wrong but I don't see him picking us over a stable team that offers CL football.
Its a typical United big signing, this is how it always goes.
I'm personally against this deal. Barcelona is his favorite club and being told by them he is expendable and forced out of the club is probably pretty upsetting. He also doesn't want to come here and will do so only for Ten Hag, with the expectation of us qualifying for the CL next season. But let's be honest here, our chances for Top 4 next season are slim. If we fail to make it he will probably lose confidence and start to sulk. Furthermore, what if Ten Hag ends up getting sacked at some point or leaves for whatever reason?

And then there's the issue of his wages. They are already astronomical at Barcelona and he will demand equal or more from us. So if things don't go according to plan we will be stuck with another deadwood on eye-watering wages.

I know I will catch flak for this, because "De Jong reeeee", but whatever.
Gonna be a bad day today.

Is RedCafé the most neurotic fan forum in the world these days, or are there other contenders?

Why do managers become so precious with us? Did ETH get all the players he wanted when he was winning trophies in the farmer's league? Managers have a say of course but sometimes we have to move to plan B or C. De Jong was a nice to have signing but at this point he doesn't make sense. He'd cost far more then he's worth and tbh he's not like he's eager to join us.

Of course, no business can happen during shabbat, then there is church on Sunday. They probably also have a summer vacation in Spain in July, so they can arrive just in time to sign Gareth Bale in August, on the final day of the transfer window.

80m + a 350k a week wage for 5 years is ridiculous money especially when we're in the middle of a rebuild. We should walk away now while there are still alternatives available. I'd say let's go for Laimer and Tielemans. They are both available, they wouldn't cost a bomb and they are a clear upgrade to what we've got.

you mean tielemans who has been dogshit for a year?

Laimer / Sangare - Soler / Ruiz

Is a great shout to be fair.

that Helena journalist is awful. She Seems desperate for some reason to keep this transfer alive when most respectable journalists have moved on to other targets. Move on!

The club will be speaking to Neves, Lamer etc they will have oven-ready deals ready to go if they know this deal this won't happen

i imagine once we know for definite De Jong is a no they will move quickly to complete a deal for another midfielder activating a release clause etc

it's just the 5 stages of grief. Denial.

All makes sense.
I wouldn't be too bothered if Frenkie was the only player we bought and we integrated Hannibal and Garner into the match day squad and we kept Amad and Pelistri.
The guy is supposed to be a brilliant methodical coach with a high workrate and he demands the same from his players so if we even get that from the existing players it is going to be a massive improvement on last season.

He's a coach, not a magician with a magic wand. I'm seeing this all over the place. "Maybe ten Hag will make our mediocre players way better than they currently are." It's not going to happen. Look at Klopp, arguably the best manager in the league and capable of squeezing every juice out of his players. How many so called academy youths do you see being a main part of his starting XI? Look at Pep, how many youths from their academy do you see in his starting XI?

The reality is for the vast majority of clubs, even the elite ones like PSG, Bayern, and Real Madrid it's considerably rare for youths from the academy to develop into good to great players. Manchester United fans are stuck in this infinite loop of constantly hoping for another 92' generation, always shoehorning academy players that are clearly not good enough for their preferred starting XIs. I love our culture for promoting youth, but sometimes it goes too far; it's literally the reason McTominay managed to start for us for 3 years when he'd probably struggle to start for a relegation club.

Even Barcelona with arguably the greatest academy amongst elite clubs and just came off one of the greatest golden generations is constantly spending to add players to their squad. They're going to add 6+ players to their squad this summer, at least.

ten Hag is not going to develop our academy talents and make us compete against the top with them. What it takes to compete at the highest is to do what every elite club (bayern, real madrid, PSG, City, Liverpool) does in the world: buy talents from all over Europe. Why is it that we're arrogant enough to think signing 2-3 players a window whilst leaving MASSIVE holes in the squad will be enough to have us compete with the rest in Europe? Seriously, we've made no significant additions to the centre midfield position roles since FRED in 2018.

I don't know if Amad, Elanga and Pellistri are going to good or great in the future, but right now they're evidently not good enough. We need a quality RW, or at the very least a talented one ready to regularly start for a top 6 club. We need quality midfielders. Not one in De Jong, not two, but multiple talented players in the role to compete with the rest of the top 6. It's what everyone else is doing. All of them have strong midfields, even Arsenal. We have one of the weakest midfields in the league.

We are not special. We cannot continue to think we'll compete while persistently refusing to fix all the holes in the squad, naively thinking our youths can do a good enough job throughout the season.

2-3 players will have our squad equivalent to what we had last season. If the glazers aren't willing to overspend and give us the required players (about 5 to 6) we need to even start competing for top 4 next season, let alone challenge for a title, then they honestly aren't taking this seriously and neither do they realize just how unbalanced and disastrous the current squad is. In other words, nothing will have changed from Woodward's era.

The situation is very simple here. Barcelona don't want De Jong. He hasn't fulfilled the expectations set. On top of that they have a financial problem and De Jong is set to dig a 19m a year hole in that problem every single year for the next 4 years. Unfortunately we've built a reputation that anyone can take us to the cleaners. If Leicester can get 80m in cash for Hodor then why can't Barcelona do the same for De Jong?

The only way United can snap out of that is to move swiftly for good alternatives. If Barcelona is left with nothing then they would make themselves look silly and clubs would realise that United's free for all is over. Luckily for us these alternatives do exist. Its up to us to discover them

Apologies to all the CAF for this very negative post which allegatly wasn't constructive at all BTW.

Who?

The idea to sell FDJ is still there....but I think the concern now is that we were looking at the financial situation to get a cut price deal. If barca feel more confident to hold out, that is the worry. If we are to do a late window deal for him, then at least get Eriksen/Antony done for the tour. We need the squad on tour together from the start.

Nothing to do with being precious.

We hired the man to do a Job, it's only fair to give him at least some say on the new signings.

You hire a man to redecorate your bathroom, sure, you choose the tiles, but at least let him choose the glue he's used to working with.

We're getting a deal, i have zero doubt.

Can we, for once, try and sign a player under normal circumstances - where there is not some financial reason why they may or may not have to sell (Griezeman, De Jong), or contested release clause, or pending contract expiry, or we are throwing ridiculous money at ordinary players (AWB, Maguire, Fred) or they are very old (Ibra, Ronaldo, Cavani) and/or crocked (Schweinsteiger, Falcao)…just once.

Our new manager wants him.
He knows him.
He wants to change the way we play football and for that he needs players with a set of skills.

If that's not a normal circumstance then feck me i don't know what is.

How are PSG an elite side?
They have an elite amount of money and that is it!

I think he means normal circumstances from Barca’s side not ours. I guess he’s saying it would have been better if he wanted to join us rather than Barca being forced to sell, him not really wanting to leave and their manager preferring to keep him.

Agreed with this. Its actually insane money of 80M + 300k wages for a central midfielder. We need to start working on our other options without further delay. I’m sure Barca will sell FDJ to us on deadline because they really want to and he cannot get into their playing 11 next season regularly ahead of Pedri, Gavi, Kessie, Sergio, Piug.

We signed Donny last season.

De Jong has hardly set la liga on fire tbh

Maybe, maybe not, largely because xavi doesn’t want to use him in his best role. Tielemans on the other hand has just been awful to watch. The worst I can imagine is us moving onto neves-tielemans. It would just be a less mobile mcFred, with better passing. Honestly if that’s the alternative we had better start accepting europa football

Might be why it looks like one signing at a time.

I doubt Spainish sources would have our thinking on this. If we get some english reporting saying the same then i'd worry about ETH decision making. That article is really stretching, imo.

You would think so. Yet the fanbase is still panicking yet Barca still have Kessie and Christiansen on the shelf.

If everything so all good. Announce them already.

Ship long sailed

Then those are not normal circumstances.

If a player wants to stay, the manager needs him and the club don't won't to sell him for whatever reason then that player is not even discussed about.

Nobody wants to buy Bruno now. He just signed a new deal.

There were never rumours about Modrić leaving Madrid.

I don't quite get what your saying.
A lot of things need to come together for a player to leave one massive club and join another.

This isn't your Monaco to PSG or Southampton to Liverpool transfer.
