You would think so. Yet the fanbase is still panicking yet Barca still have Kessie and Christiansen on the shelf.

If everything so all good. Announce them already.
Exactly, I would be more worried if it was Dortmund as they actually know how to run their finances properly. These clowns have run their club into the ground and pretending like this fixes it.

It's painfully obvious Barca are briefing this to try and get more money, but the world and their dog know they can't register their new players without selling or terminating some contracts. It's completely up to them if they want to play hard ball, but I'm pretty sure we'll walk away this time.

Anyone describing these deals as "economic levers", should realise this is just shifting money around. They're not actually generating any more cash, just sooner than expected.
Somebody who's finally talking sense.

The economic levers won't slow down Frenkie de Jong's exit

talking sense, but that is not the worry now. If this is going all the way to deadline day (even if we get him or we pull out) then the talks have to be put on the backburner for other deals. We need players done now so they get used to ETH early and get on board with this program and mindset early.

Maybe, maybe not, largely because xavi doesn’t want to use him in his best role. Tielemans on the other hand has just been awful to watch. The worst I can imagine is us moving onto neves-tielemans. It would just be a less mobile mcFred, with better passing. Honestly if that’s the alternative we had better start accepting europa football

Yes seriously how tielemans is rated here like a top midfielder baffles me. Tielemans is a poor man’s version of pogba On and Off the pitch. Anyways looks to be that Arsenal gonna sign him soon, good luck to them.

Barcelona want 100 mil, but his current worth is more like 60 mil. If he is sold it will probably be something like 80 total. They have to sell players or Laporta can‘t have his photo op with Lewandowski.

If it doesn‘t happen, McTominay retrained by Ten Hag will be like a brand new signing.

I think Foden will replace Silva centrally as they now have Haaland up top, Alvarez is the Jesus replacement, Phillips replaces Fernandinho and they’ll add a LB. FDJ doesn’t make any sense to me for City as a Bernardo replacement - entirely different players.

I'm going for a positive here and FDJ will come.
Then Antony, then a striker then Pau Torres.

The point isn’t that City are looking to sign De Jong, but that Barca might buy Silva with our money.

And he would also face similar problems with the ones he has at Barca with Rodri doing basically the Busquets role.

Nothing to do with being precious.

We hired the man to do a Job, it's only fair to give him at least some say on the new signings.

You hire a man to redecorate your bathroom, sure, you choose the tiles, but at least let him choose the glue he's used to working with.

We're getting a deal, i have zero doubt.
.

Then we might as well fire all scouts, the Dof and the technical director and focus solely in bringing in what the manager wants. That would probably shock ETH who relied heavily on Overmars while at Ajax

These days managers rely heavily on the DOF to facilitate transfers and come out with viable options. The manager's opinion is still important but one has to take other things into account as well and at 80m De Jong is not worth it

Yep. Pep got away with so many creative midfielders since he basically played a false 9 but a proper striker takes away a slot for a deeper attacker.
I can see why Pep wants Philips if he’s going a bit more direct in games to Haaland now, a bit less possession in the attacking third gives up a bit of defensive control

Thank you. Plus Barca would still require Silva to be on cheaper wages and a cheaper transfer fee. So I don’t see how a swap deal works and do people really think City are going to lose Silva and spend more money on top to get De Jong. Makes no sense to them to do that deal.

Barca really are clueless.

If you want him to do the best job possible. Give him the best tools he requires. It really make no sense to leave this deal at 80m to go ans get Neves for 60m does it now.

We should walk away if Barca insists on EUR80M. Focus on other targets and see if they do well. His value is more likely to drop next season.

If we don't get Frenkie, my next option for the same position would be Tielemans. With him quite near Arsenal, I think the board is quite sure that we're getting Frenkie. I don't see Vitinha to be the same player as FdJ.

Scott and Fred are fired up and ready to get on board early.

Seems like Barca are trying to drive up the price in a desperate attempt to get us to pay for their transfers through the De Jong deal. This one might take a while.

Cleared out his locker  :lol:
What will these morons think of next?....
That line was tweeted last week by someone else. Can't recall who but it was definitely said before.
Slow Friday so they need something to keep everyone interested for the weekend.

United should now offer a take it or leave it deal to Barcelona and make it very clear that this is the final offer and their will be no negotiation. We cannot afford for this saga to run on and on. We need a resolution one way or another and if it goes against us, then we move on to other targets. We need 4/5 players in for the first team THIS summer and although it wont solve everything, it would certainly push us on (hopefully).

We go back to training in 2 weeks (I know some (non international players) come back a week earlier) and then we move onto the tour a week later, so we need to get a couple in for that IMO.

De Jong would cost us 80m + salary. Considering that he's on a 350k a week that would be at least 19m a year. Thus if he signs a 5 year contract that would spiral to an eye watering 175m deal, which is already a huge sum of money for a happy player let alone one whose being forced to join us.

I agree with you in principal and in normal circumstances I'd say that United should take the plunge and go for it. Having said that we're in a surreal situation were the budget is tight and we need at least 4 players. ETH must consider alternatives and luckily for us there are decent options available on the cheap such a Fabian Ruiz, Tielemans and Soler. I have no doubts that ETH can understand that. He's a manager who is used to work with DOFs. My only problem is whether we've got the quality personnel needed to come up with alternatives that can give the manager food for thought.

This.

I honestly couldn't have said it better myself.

Then just pay the fee. At least try to negotiate that. This whole thread is a bunch of people speculating that barca is the one without leverage but really, you guys need him and there's no replacement. Look at Arsenal and Tottenham right now, they're way ahead of you guys but yet you think you have time? The more you wait the further the separation gets from Arsenal and Tottenham.

Worst comes to worst, Frenkie would have to lower his salary if he was to stay. I think in the end you guys will pay or at least come to an agreement but it's pretty funny watching you guys trip over his price when he'd instantly be your best player. Instantly, while the ink is still wet and he's still wearing church shoes.

We are signing a player under normal circumstances.
Our new manager wants him.
He knows him.
He wants to change the way we play football and for that he needs players with a set of skills.

If that's not a normal circumstance then feck me i don't know what is.
I think he means normal circumstances from Barca’s side not ours. I guess he’s saying it would have been better if he wanted to join us rather than Barca being forced to sell, him not really wanting to leave and their manager preferring to keep him.
Yes this
