When you are relying on good old Juan and Graeme Bailey for positive tweets, you know you're in last chance saloon

He never wanted to come imo. Sign Caicedo who looks like he could become an immense player and go all in for Jude next window.

I think we're officially telling everyone that it's not going to happen because at this point saying anything else is pointless. We have a big midfield signing in Casemiro, so it's easy to say we're happy with our business if Barcelona don't sort their shit out.

But it seems an open secret that if they do sort their shit out we'll step in and get it done. We may not be very confident because you'd think Barcelona would have done something by now to find a solution. That said I think we may be more confident than we're letting on.

Should get Caicedo in maybe a couple of years, we need more of a quick passing tempo controlling player now

So why didn't Erik walk back when we were first linked with him on night of FA Youth Cup Final

We are have casemiro, no need to splash out 80mil on a defensive minded player, we want someone to progress the ball up the pitch.

We play Leicester away at 8pm on deadline day. Hopefully news of a done deal will be out before kick off. Next game is at home v Arsenal on the following Sunday and we will need Frenkie in the team for that one.

The next 9 days could be a proper game changer for this club. Getting players in of the quality of De Jong and Antony would be unreal.

I could see Antony being in squad for Leicester next Thursday, however still can't believe we can sign FDJ

Despite it looking highly unlikely I cannot help but constantly be sucked in by this saga until next Thurs night, yes I know it has all but been written off by the likes of Whitwell & Stone but cannot help checking thread for tweets

Yeah me too, Hard to see it happening but after signing Casemiro and beating Liverpool I'm on board for everything for the next 9 days or whatever it is . Choo fecking choo!!!

Yeah those two things have given a bit of renewed optimism along with Erik's words about still wanting players, he probably does only mean Antony, Gakpo (if Ronaldo leaves) & RB (if AWB leaves) but what if he is doing this on the quiet too

Why? Signing FDJ is way more desirable now: alone Frenkie wouldn’t be able to transform the team. But with Casemiro next to him, FDJ can unlock his potential, and our midfield would suddenly be one of the best in the league

The only things making this a “saga” is the constant journalistic bullshit and redcafe’s obsession with De Jong, who is not as good as people on here believe.

For two months the situation remains the same:
- United wants him
- Barcelona wants to sell
- He doesn’t want to go

Of course he wants his 17 million that Barcelona owe him. But he also clearly wants to play for them. He never expressed any kind of interest in joining United. That’s why he won’t.
ETH wants him, and I believe he is getting “positive” signals.
But my take is that De jong and his team are just using United as bargaining tool.

If Barcelona pay him what he’s owed (they won’t), he’ll declare his lifetime love and commitment to them very publicly.

If they don’t, I see him going down the golfer path of Gareth Bale, whilst taking them to the court, rather than joining United.

He never expressed the slightest interest in joining us.

Of course I hope I’m totally wrong and all this fan drama was worth it, because De Jong is the next great United thing.
But what are the odds currently ? :wenger:

Well Casemiro may have given him food for thought but then the idea of putting in Antony with killer passes, WOW

May as well get off at the next station

Agreed. They are pretty much the perfect midfielder partners for each other. Casemiro helps solve the defensive issues, De Jong or similiar is still required so we can build from the back effectively. No idea if De Jong is possible or not, but I'm sure ETH would want him and prioritise him still.

It’s unfortunate that you put a lot of effort into posting this. Bless.

If he stays and takes the pay cut doesnt he surrender the deferred wages too? Whereas he could come to us and stay on 350k+ a week. Okay, he still loses the 17m but its not looking like hes getting it either way!
