The most sensible thing was what they did. Invest many weeks into trying to sign him because he’s that good of a player. I’m sure they was encouraging feedback but we’re getting to end of the window and just splashed on another midfielder.
Doesn’t mean we won’t sign him but I know what I’d be betting on if I had to.
Has Barca paid deferred wage yet? If not, what changed?
Chelsea are done so they're tagging Bayern now? Is there any indication that Bayern actually want him? They have a free pass at all of the talent in Germany, so they very rarely need to overpay for foreign talent.

Feels like it. It’s starting to feel like all the noise all along was just Barca trying to bait us into paying more. He was probably offered around and Chelsea had a sniff. I’m completely convinced that if they need him to leave, then we’ll get him.
I can't see Bayern in for him, between Kimmich, Goertzka, Gravenberch, Muisala, Vidovic, Sabitzer and feck even young Wanner. They are extremely well stocked in that area. Seems like another Barcelona plant to get us panicked.
I think barca are getting a bit desperate to be honest, and they're thinking that if they name Bayern, knowing de Jong would like to go there, it'll pressure United into doing all they can to get him this summer.

After Casemiro I refuse to disbelieve anything at this point. If you told me that we'd traveled back in time and cloned Garrincha at his peak to sign him up to play RW for us, I'd probably half-believe it right now.

At the time, not sure how many levers would need pulling so accepted and basically told us to wait while they decided if need to/want to sell... and while they decided if wanted/could buy Silva (if I was City, I'd tell them to go away.. great player, why sell him?)

Because they might see how desperate United are and could shift the goalposts so to speak. They agreed a fixed fee and structure deal last time. They may now say we want full fixed fee, or fixed of €XXm and €XXm in easy addons taking it up to nearly €100M or so. This is Barca we're on about. They're desperate and in financial shit. They know United are splashing the cash, so they'll take advantage of it

We could, but my guess is they know how badly ten Hag wants de Jong so they'll use that to their advantage. Maybe the Casemiro signing has given de Jong the kick he needs to want to move? I doubt it, but IF there is somthing in these rumours, then it's clear that he must be willing.

Konrad (or Konran?) is good and probs significantly cheaper but Kimmich is a monster i think. Anywho, all these lads are sucked into the Bayern gravity they aren’t going anywhere unless it’s Real or Barcelona (you need dem levers).

I think chasing him for 3 months is evidence of that, would take around £150m to sign De Jong & Antony I reckon. When did we last spend nearly £280m in one window much as I want to see it.
