Did they negotiate such clause though? It was the case for Christiansen and Kessié because they came as free agent but as far as we know it logically doesn't apply to their other signings.

Im sure ive read that if they can’t register him they have to pay an additional £2.3m plus he would be allowed to leave on a free. I may be wrong but with Barca who knows!

It is also LvG's, he's inconsistent in his logic.
In what he preaches outwardly, yes. But internally it's rather consistent if you've followed him through his career.

He's not going to hope a player comes good. If FDJ sits on the Barca bench and doesnt perform similairly to how Bergwijn has, he will have absolutely no qualms dropping him.

Which makes no sense at all. If true then Barcelona are likely the dumbest club ever.

Bergwijn was never as established as Frenkie is in the NT, and rather got minutes again whilst he wasn't playing. Cillessen also got minutes whilst he wasn't playing, same thing for Ake.

I wonder what will happen to de Ligt if the Bayern back 4 stays healthy.

I probably know already, not much that wouldnt anyway.

Either dumb, arrogant or naive. They take the spending money you don't have to a whole new level. I wonder how Koundé feels about his decision to reject Chelsea now.

Surely we can’t pull off Casemiro, Frenkie and Antony

They probably counted on selling de jong or at least screwing him over.

It doesn't matter what they count on, it's dumb and unnecessary. Free agency has nothing to do with La Liga registration.

Of course he won’t play if he’s not match fit. He needs games to stay sharp.
He will play, definitely, just not start.

It doesnt stop LvG from playing Ake, or Bergwijn when he was at Spurs.

Like every coach, Louis has his favorites, and will find a story to support the narrative, like he has with Bergwijn and plenty players before.
He isn't De Boer and wouldn't say he played 4000 minutes while it's closer to 40, and he is stricter than plenty managers, but the way he adores Frenkie, he will not drop him in the coming 4 months. Maybe he won't be a starter if he sucks in the training sessions, but I don't think he'll drop Frenkie at all.

Not arguing with that , they obviously wouldn't be in this mass having to leverage their future income had they been prudent enough.

This is all well and good until we find out that they're out there to sign Dest and the $20m to register Kounde is gonna be from that transfer

Sick of getting pulled back in, but our midfield would become the stuff of dreams if we managed to pull this off. Think only City would be able to have a comparable 3 in the middle.

Well it depends how you look at it. Let's say we beat Liverpool tonight (I know big ask). So if that happens would you consider Liverpool out of CL football this season too?
No, Liverpool have shown they are a miles better team longer term. Them going three games without a win is a blip. For us it is representative of our current standard: our results have been woeful, but it is the underlying performances alongside them that is truly worrying. We are getting what we deserve largely and have been for six months.

People can scoff, but a lot of the analytical models have us well below 10% for CL qualification and less likely than teams such as Newcastle, Palace and Brighton. Currently we are as likely to be relegated as finish top four: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/premier-league/

The signings may change all this but no guarantee.

This is such a sad mentality. 2 games in and already 'out of the running'.

Like the pathetic section of Arsenal fans last year, crying about being in a relegation battle after 5 games.

Also, football just doesn't go in a single trajectory. There will be dips in form for teams and players this season, no doubt about that what so ever and the fact there's a world Cup that is slap bang in the middle (which has never been done before) means I can't see how anyone can confidently say how the season will pan out at this point.

I'd rather be optimistic than wrong than pessimistic and right. If you've thrown the towel in already, what's the fecking point?

Good job folks like you seemingly weren't about in the days where we were relegated. Things can change pretty quickly in football, the last 2 months aren't solid evidence of the next 2 months.

Mope, mope, mope. Some of our lot need to fecking grow a pair. If enough people thought like you, literally 98% of clubs around the world simply wouldn't have a following.
I don't play for United, so my mentality has no factor on our outcomes. I can support my team, vocally from the stands, but still take a step back and more soberly assess our prospects and performances. My wanting us to be champions again doesn't make it more likely to happen.

From where we currently are, I think ETH does well to keep his job this season and get us any sort of European football next season. There's real deep-rooted issues in our playing squad and we are in a worse place than Arsenal were after three games last season. They weren't coming off the back of our second half of the previous season too. There's a lot of evidence to suggest we are quit shit sadly.

To be fair, to have a clear advantage in a transfer negotiation for a superstar and then throw that advantage away by buying a squad player - would be classic United. Let's hope he has a greedy mom.

I’d laugh my ass off if we told Barca our fax machine is broken, then reached a pre-contract with Koundé instead
