Whatever happens as the end game here for FDJ - he has, very unfortunately become the bad guy and will be quite disliked forever more by a couple of teams supporters. he has been an unfortunate pawn in the Barcelona farce. I also think that Barca have gone down in many people eyes / failure for them will be greeted with great applause.

I'm confident FDJ will leave Barca now.

If the sky source mentioned earlier that the agent has agreed terms then FDJ has agreed terms with United. If he was so against joining terms wouldn't be agreed he'd be signaling to Chelsea to make an offer.

The meeting tomorrow is either to agree upon the wage issue, then if he's not taking a wage cut which is widely cited he's leaving the club in the next 24-48 hours when the agent meets with Barca.

I don't see him at Chelsea given the Fofana chase, and what Tuchel needs right now is a striker. Werner has just left.

Or it could mean that they're not entirely serious about him and just want to test the waters.

I just can't understand why, if they're so certain he'll come, they haven't bidded. Makes absolutely no sense. We got our bid in and was willing to wait?
They may want to avoid the embarrassment we're seemingly happy to set ourselves up for by having a bid accepted for weeks, only for the player to opt to stay / sign for somebody else.

They've got a good reputation for getting players they're after quickly, unlike us, who are known for long drawn out public displays of affection that eventually end with nothing.

So have they agreed a fee? They’ve been waiting for weeks now and they have UCL football and can afford to pay his deferred wages.

I have no idea, from reports it seems Chelsea are discussing Auba (unlikely now as Memphis is going to Juve) and Frenkie, I would expect the fee to be around the same as the United offer but there is potentially Alonso being involved (heaven knows why we are trying to sign this guy).

Even if they do agree a fee right now with Barca though, it's the same situation as United have been in for 3 months. Despite all the efforts from all sides involved (even his agent if media is to be believed) he is still refusing to leave. I think both clubs will be willing to pay the deferred wages at this point.

No matter what, end of the day the player will decide and there's feck all anyone can really do about it.. Barca included.

The issue is over unpaid wages I feel though, he doesn't want a salary cut and I think the writing is on the wall to him. I can't see him at Barca come 1st September.

Jorginho if Kante can remain fit.
Can't see that happening, he's Mr Reliable for them. Kante isn't done yet either. Only one he's replacing is Kovacic's bench/rotation spot, and he's also a very good player for them, controls the tempo.

Yeah but they have a functional midfield and definitely a better defense. You can laugh all you want but they will finish ahead of us and easily.

I think United have an equal defense, if not better honestly. The RB and CMs make United get pulled all over the place which make it seem worse than what it is.

There is always chatter about Jorginho being moved on every summer. Maybe FDJ might make it a reality.

I don't see it happening you move on your weaker players, not Kante or Jorginho. They will be the last to go.

I can’t even take you seriously if you think our defense is on par or “even better” than Chelsea. They were the 3rd best defense last year and we on the other hand conceded the most we have in our premier league history. The delusion and bias among some United fans on here is just unbelievable.

Honestly the thing that makes Uniteds defense so bad is McTominay and Fred in front of the back four. If you're giving away possession all the time and inviting pressure then you concede goals.

United before Carrick signed conceded silly goals, you had Brown/Ferdinand, Vidic was brought in the January before really had a hard time adapting to the league. The season United got Carrick they won the title. The holding midfielder makes a huge difference.

That player distributes the ball, screens, plugs in gaps if a defenders missing and it looks simple when it's done right, you don't think much of those players. Busquets has done a great job at Barca, Carrick did for United. McFred not so much.

The defenders are actually good, the only issue is Dalot/AWB. If you get a top class DM, a functional double-pivot and you get the likes of Sancho/Rashford to track back or the team to press properly I think United will concede a lot less goals.

You put any of Uniteds defenders in another team with a good midfield I think they'll look much much better.

Part of the issue sure but also him having to give up a lifestyle he's settled in to + the wages he's on, should he sit tight and give us the finger, aren't bad either. I can understand both sides.

I agree he won't be a Barca player after this. Laporta went nuclear with that illegal contract talk, I think both sides will cut their loses and move on.

I have a couple of genuine questions for you...

1) What, if any, implications do you think the FDJ deal has on any other member of your squad (or indeed backroom staff) who has deferred their wages in some way? If United, Chelsea or whoever, including Barca, pay this €17m, won't Ter Stegen, Umtiti and everyone else just sit on their huge contracts or expect big payouts if and when they leave? What do Barca do when the next club to come along doesn't want to contribute in the same way?

2) Following on from the above, what, if anything, do Barca need to do at the end of this season to avoid this mess just happening all over again? I'm no expert but won't your revenue be reduced because no levers have been pulled, and won't that mean your wage cap comes down and you are in breach of FFP again almost immediately? If player sales are needed, how does that work in relation to my first question?

Laporta went nuclear with that around mid July though.

I think he has to go, because if he doesn't he will be vilified by some fans, he will be portrayed as "money hungry" because of like the "twitter talk" says he's had a smear campaign against him. Staying at Barca won't come off well for him, even if he lowers his wages they still want Bernado Silva. I doubt they'll sell all their revenue streams for one summer.

They'll have to sell someone and he'll be the fall guy.

I think the case is sell Frenkie to build a whole squad and he's a sacrifice. Plus there's Messi coming back next year they need to account for (although of course he'll be another free transfer) I'm assuming he will want a sign-on fee

I think United sometimes drag transfers on purpose because everything is about clicks and engagement. Look how long the Sancho saga dragged on for, and Pogba for instance.

It's always a saga. Liverpool, City just put a bid in and get the player. I think its deliberate.

Hope I’m wrong, but we’re looking to be without a chair when the music finally stops.

It is a bit strange or funny that everyone seems to just accept the fact that if it’s between United and Chelsea, we are out. They will learn that very soon if that scenario happens, we will get him.
