I'm confident we won't do that. I'd hate it if we did. Paying over €100m for this guy is lunacy, I would hope we've already learnt our lesson.

Yeap. I really hope we aren't that desperate as to pay his back wages. Sets precedence just when we are trying to clean up our poor transfer practices. That would kill any joy of getting him to United.

I don’t think you are automatically out on this transfer or any other player we would compete for. But history tells us that more often than not they’ll turn you down over Chelsea. At least from the competing bids that were made public. I don’t know of a single player that went to you over us but you very welcome to correct me.

That being said, I still believe this boy is staying and you’ve wasted your summer for nothing. We haven’t bid unless the situation changes according to various sources and I’ve said all along I don’t expect us to bid. But you never know in football.
Lukaku.

Come on Frenkie.
I am a bit of a selfish cnut too but I'm making an effort. I don't leave the tap running any more while cleaning my teeth and I try not to put any lights on until at least 10pm.

Don't be a cnut.

:nono: :nono: :nono: He's been called that online by Barca fans and at the gates of their training ground enough times. No need for you to add on. Leave the poor sod alone.

We should go for Jorginho if Chelsea get him. It's not as if our scouts would have identified an alternate of actual quality anyway

That doesn't even bare thinking about. Worst outcome possible. ETH won't last the season if he tries to continue with McFred.

Not sure if you're tongue in cheek here or trying your old "ITK" act?

If he continues with McFred you have to question his credentials. I know who are we to question him but that would be unexplainable.

He’s already done in my eyes if he starts them this weekend..

There is no fukking way ETH will start McFred again this weekend. Maybe one of these two, but not both.

This Batman and Robin duo needs to be permanently retired.

Who are you kidding. McFreddo will play a substantial amount of game this season. Let's not kid ourselves. And fans will continue to cheer from them
I think he’ll start Fred and VdB with Bruno then Ronny up top. Eriksen will come on later. Donny isn’t very productive but he’s not constantly giving the ball away. Surely Erik can see that? If he doest then I give up

So, I watched Romero’s most recent channel video and then looked at the information most recently available from outlets and it paints a pretty clear picture actually.

De Jongs agents were supposed to meet with Barcelona today. It apparently didn’t happen, because De Jong wants to be there. They are going to tell him how much they want him to stay, and he DOES want to stay at Barcelona. But he will have to agree to an extreme wage decrease, and to cut the amount of deferred wages down to 6 million.

De Jong doesn't actually need to agree to a wage decrease. He still has the option of just playing out his current contract, which is why Barca is going to have to pay him the wages they owe him before he will agree to move.

Chelsea certainly is a more attractive option for their stronger roster and CL qualification but going by historical trends they're due to fire their manager within the next 12 months (although the new ownership group may not be so trigger happy), they have an already pretty crowded midfield and he'll have to pick up Tuchel's tactics. United can offer him a guaranteed starting spot in a tactical setup that he's already familiar with that will be specifically built around him with a coach he knows already.

If he continues with McFred you have to question his credentials. I know who are we to question him but that would be unexplainable.

He may try Fred as the connector for a few more matches to see if he can start to figure it out, but if it continues to be a disaster without any signs of improvement I suspect he'll put Eriksen in the DLP role in a double pivot with Rabiot providing some defensive cover. He may also have been anticipating De Jong signing with United eventually and just using Fred as a placeholder. If we find out Frenkie isn't coming to United he may just scrap that particular plan altogether and work on a different setup for the season.

Eriksen should start ahead of Bruno.

Surely jose lvg ole rangnick can see that... Or are they seeing something we dont?

At the moment McFreddo will start, maybe even due to having no one better.

Honestly if he starts the kids ahead of them literally no one will blame him.

All 3 of them were shite. LVG had Herrera and Schmidfield.

Whatever happens as the end game here for FDJ - he has, very unfortunately become the bad guy and will be quite disliked forever more by a couple of teams supporters. he has been an unfortunate pawn in the Barcelona farce. I also think that Barca have gone down in many people eyes / failure for them will be greeted with great applause.

This.

So many have based their opinions about him on just hearsay, and have no concrete evidence of anything. The amount of times I read, "If he has decided to...then his a fool..." etc, etc.

Everyone knows the political games Barca have been playing and how poorly they have treated Frenkie. People just need to relax. If people are bored of the transfer, then don't come into this thread, or listen to the noise elsewhere about this transfer. Some of the tier 1 journalists said from the outset that this onw probably will run down to the wire, and thus it has proven to be so far.

We’ve truly been embarrassed with this transfer… chased him all summer only to fail and end up with rabiot. And there’s Arnold telling all the fans in the pub that they’ll definitely get us our first choice targets. A load of crap.

I think he is insane if he willingly gives up and waives away 11m, but I still have not changed my stance. There is going to be a compromise. Barca will come up with the necessary means once again

Essentially what Barca are doing is like your employer saying, I know I owe you 6 months wages and you earn £10 an hour, but can you just forget about what you're owed and accept £4 an hour instead going forward. Mental

Sport [shite outlet IMO] reckon again tomorrow on their front page deal is almost closed for 80m euros, and its just awaiting FDJ and agent to agree terms with us. As many here pointed out, there is some serious guesswork going on, and mud slinging hoping something sticks.
So, for awhile now everyone has been focusing on the owed deferred wages. But the fact is, Barca not only want him to disavow most of the deferred money owed, they also (reportedly) want him to take an additional 50 % salary cut. The man would be baking 30% less than John Stones does and less than Marcus Rashford. He would t just be giving up 17 million. If he accepted their terms he would be giving up closer to 70 million just on this contract.

What makes it worse is that some peoe seem exempt from this “new philosophy” on spending, including new signing Lewa, who would make almost twice what Frenkie does on these terms.

Barca has painted themselves into a corner with their tactics though. Using emotional manipulation of the fan base to borderline endanger Frenkie is a hard step to recover, whether you publicly admonish it or not.

And they can’t capitulate in their demands, otherwise it won’t work the next 10 times they try to do it. And they WILL try this again.

Now, this is where I think United have a chance: Frenkie is a 25 year old. If that meeting tomorrow ends with Barca forcing him to leave it’s gonna leave an emotional mark. He doesn’t seem like someone who has accepted the reality of the situation up to now. He has had Xavi and everyone else telling him how much they still love and need him. But tomorrow they are going to tell him “either take the wages B Silva makes (because he makes around what they want him to cut to) or leave, like now”

Something like that could make him want to be around someone he knows he can trust, maybe more than playing in some CL games.

Leaving Barca is one thing, but if you are FDJ, why would you choose United over Chelsea?

Is this due to the deadline to register Kessie and Christensen sparking the need to conclude a sale quickly?
If they have to release Kessie whats the chances of getting him instead of FDJ, free transfer and a good player. I think FDJ is going to Chelsea, not sure they actually need him as a priority but hard to turn down a player of his quality as they dont come up that often, although I think this will be a common theme for Barca over the next few years until they get their financials under control.

An insane wage, stable place in the team, one of the biggest fanbases/clubs in the world who will adore him - who knows if Chelsea will buy someone new again next year, so he could just be second fiddle like at Barca again. It was no guarantee for Lukaku, Werner, etc that they came to chelsea for big amounts

They don't have to release Kessie, but he is free to break his contract if he isn't registered in time. It most likely wouldn't happen and he'd just hold on until he could be registered. Although I'd love for us to pull the switcharoo and take him on a free.

Thanks for clarifying, I thought they had to release them.
No player will sit at the club with no chance of playing any games, surely they will break the contract and move on, what does that say about the player if he stays and not registered?
Hopefully they got a signing bonus paid up front from Barca, that would be the perfect outcome from this.

Nothing surprises me anymore with barca players. They let that club shit all over them and stay loyal. It's bonkers. Could you imagine if we had to a player what barca are doing to FDJ?

Barca have to register their players by Monday?
End of the month when the transfer window closes but to play in any games before then they have to be registered first. Bit of a risk waiting until the very end of the window to be registered only to find out they cant and in a World Cup year you wont be playing any football. Was reading that they havent registered any new signings or the contract renewals either.

So that is Murthough's ingenious plan. Distract Barca with de Jong, then swoop in and sign Kessie, Raphinah and Lewandowski on deadline day

Its the fans that crack me up the most, they have the gall to boo the players for not accepting a wage cut when its the clubs fault for getting themselves into the mess they are in.
I would love us to have that loyalty to the club from half of our players, would revitalise the dressing room. Even before the first game, Maguire stands on the wrong side of the tunnel until DDG corrects him, shows a lack of love and commitment to the club in my opinion, you should be all over the little details especially as captain.

I initially scoffed abit at this thinking no chance. But even professional footballers need to feel loved. I’m not actually sure he would at Chelsea ( he would be welcomed , fans would be excited but it feels like just another player coming in for big money)

just looking at this thread you can see this subsection of the Utd fan base viewed him as the white knight who would ride in to save there midfield. I think that may play on the players mind and he could choose you over us in that respect.

It's like a fecking cult, yeah. Maybe they're having great Eyes Wide Shut style parties?

Venture into the barca thread in the FF and check out the fans in there. Actually defending their club and defending Braithwaite being booed. Ridiculous.

It's amazing the pull they have pal still. Me personally, I wouldn't go near that place if I were a footballer

Further reading has said that its only Kessie and Christensen that can leave for free, the rest cannot break contract as they were purchased.
Contract renewal guys have been registered as well.

All while still wanting to sign Bernardo Silva, even if they sell FDJ how does that solve previous aforementioned problems and the purchase of Silva? Mind blowing.
Fans not kicking up a fuss either, the club has leveraged so much of its potential income, serious debt levels and operating at a loss, yet its the players fault for signing contracts for agreed wages?

It's only the players they signed on a free who can break their contracts if not registered by tomorrow - Kessie and Christienson (spelling?). None of the others can.

That's true, you'd think a player like Lewandowski or Raphinha would kick up a serious fuss if they didn't manage to register him, though
