Are we going to get Di Maria'd here? He doesn't seem that interested in coming. Surely it's better to go for someone that really wants to play for us?

The price also seems to go up everyday.

Barcelona: "OMG, we're in massive financial trouble! We've already had to let Messi leave and we need to raise x hundred million pounds by July or we're fecked. Currenly we can't even register player x and player y for next season!"

Also Barcelona: "Sign him, him and him!"

You'd think that they would just sell a couple of players - or whatever it is they need to do to sort themselves out - not sign anyone new for a season and accept they might finish 3rd or 4th next season. Small price to pay for securing the stability of the club. But no. Let's sign Lewandowski. One of the most expensive players you could ever possibly sign, certainly in terms of his contract.

There's this mentality that they must have their shiny new toys every year, no matter what. We've seen similar with Madrid over the years. Boggles the mind the way these clubs are run.

I’m aware of what it means, yet the ‘can afford to lose’ but is a subjective definition, a category that Barcelona did not need to have him in, but chose to. That is a message to him in itself.

This is a key point. There's some kind of narrative here that Barcelona have no choice but to sell him, but that's not true. They have to sell someone, but it doesn't have to be him. They have lots of saleable assets, but they are choosing to sell him.

You all are reactionary idiots. Look at his reaction and demeanour and tell me he isn’t coming.
Also, the reporter is a muppet too, reading his body language and mentioning his sigh

Lovely personality this guy, one of my favourite footballers ever when he was at Ajax. He is staying, and there is no alternative for him. All other options are one or two levels below him.

That's wild, but glad to know there is a lot of talk about it. It's exactly the same situation. Why are we gonna sign a player for a massive fee and wages that doesn't really want to be here?

Sorry for replying to you with links to this thread but Di Maria and that sentenced has been repeated to death in here. Until this summer is over we can't really say that he does or doesn't want to be here. All we know now is that his primary wish is to stay at Barca.

Thats fair enough mate. It's my first time even looking at this thread. I can understand the same thing getting posted is annoying for the people that read it regularly.

I hope he's great if we get it done.

They have this problem like every summer and somehow cook the books and still sign a solid 4-5 first team players
How can a club make €500M by end of June (without book cooking as you put) but yeah agree that they will come out with a good transfer window.

By saying that though you upset the club you are at. If he doesn't think he is going to be sold then why would he do that? it's shooting yourself in the foot. Barca fans especially don't take kindly to that sort of stuff.

He literally says the club have told him nothing about being sold or any offer, so why would he say anything positive towards another club?

If something does start to become concrete then he will change his tune.

You can hedge without being positive towards another club no? For example in my statement there is nothing about another club.

First of all, I don't think he's that good for the caf to obsess about him at this point of his career and he earns a lot of wages doesn't he ? Why would we repeat patterns that lead to guaranteed failure ?

As much as I’d love a class midfielder and guy like de jong in dressing room…. I just don’t see it happening… it’s a dream signing

Somewhere Rimaldo is nodding in agreement, he can edge in all types of directions.

When you put it like that, he's EXACTLY the profile we have all been saying we need to avoid.

The only snippet of hope is that ETH can get him going again, but still, this isn't Eredivisie. Look at what ETH said about him in the past and I struggle to believe that he would make FDJ our only midfield signing as it won't work. He's another Pogba-like conundrum that needs an entire midfield unit building around him.

Madrid own/will soon own two of them. Think both are bigger talents.

If we're talking midfielders of all ages, then there's loads of better midfielders. Hell there's 2 young players at Barca that are/will keep him out of that team soon by the sounds of it. Then you've got the likes of De Bruyne, Modric, Kroos, Jorginho, Kante, Thiago, Verratti etc. Whilst FDJ was on an upward trajectory which has levelled off, the young midfielders currently on that upward trajectory could soon be considered better. I'm talking the likes of Bellingham, Ramsey and the Barca pair. I bet there's quite a few I'm forgetting too.

This is the weakest Barca side in decades and he's been kept out of the team at times and they're considering his sale. That says something. His competition is mostly kids and Busquets who is past his peak.
He played the 4th most minutes this season, and it's Busquets that is impacting his ability to play in his preferred position, an essentially undroppable club legend.

Hope we just move on ASAP from him. Can be a very good player if motivated but, the absolute biggest issue we had last season was player not working their socks off each game. De Jong would be another case of player like Di Maria, one who won't be bothered most of the time.

Seriously can we really just ban post containing Di Maria. It’s as bad as the ‘embarrassing’ word all those many years ago.

There are countless examples of players who didn’t want to leave their clubs and went on to be very good for them, why the feck are you all clinging onto one that didn’t work out, especially given all the other factors around Di Maria

That is a ridiculous presumption.

Can you please name a few like 10 players?

Just ban word "Di Maria" in here, and word "Height" in Timber thread. It's beyond ridiculous now.

Both legitimate points though, surely? If you can't discuss the aerial abilities of an incoming CB on a football forum then there's just no point.

And, for what it's worth, I've mentioned neither before this. Just don't get why people get so riled about any negative point people make about potential signings, especially after the last 10 years or so.

He did but there was a bit of a thing with him getting subbed a lot on the hour mark. Plus signing Kessie and the Barca board apparently preferring their two youngsters, his time looks limited.

Everybody needs to have a read of this really. Sound like a very familiar situation to our very own Paul Pogba...

And this from ETH:

“Well, like I said, the players’ qualities determine how you play. Take Frenkie de Jong.

“We have really been looking to find ways to use his skills in the best manner. Where can he play best, for the team and to showcase his talent?

“Everyone was screaming ‘Frenkie is the biggest talent, etc etc.’ Well yes. But, where? In midfield? Ok, but which role?

“His quality is that he makes the forwards perform better. He is a wanderer, an adventurer, he’s always on the move, like a shark. With the ball, often, but also without the ball.

“So if you put him on 6, he’s away too often. But you need to give him freedom, otherwise, you can’t the best out of him.

“It wasn’t an easy puzzle, so I decided to play with two number 6s and only one attacking mid. And in this way, we can also dominate the half space, and force opponents to choose.”

People need to stop talking as though he's prime Modric/Scholes/Xavi or that calibre.

If Barca sell FDJ to us, I think he will be professional about it. Once we start wining, he will ding a different tune. I don’t see Barca winning the Spanish league or champions league anytime soon. I think our window to success is better than Barca. Barca basically needs a bailout now.
