This is still on, otherwise we'd have pulled the plug by now and we'd be seeing links to other midfielders.

I can't help but read The Athletic article and think there's a very real possibility that he'll flop big time here.
I think it's a very real possibility. VDB hasn't exactly had a great time of it in England, I'd be concerned they both can't cut it in a physical league. He also doesn't address any of our midfield issues and puts us pretty right back in the same position we were in before Pogba left but now we're missing more players.

There's a big difference between not wanting to leave your current club and not wanting to join your next club.

All that FdJ has said is that he doesn't want to leave Barcelona. That's fair enough and very understandable. Barca are unique and historic in their own way. But if the choice is taken out of his hands, he's going to be forced out whether he wants it or not.

From that point on, it comes down to whether he wants to join his old mentor at Old Trafford. I don't think we can say definitively whether he's for or against joining us. But what we do know is that he seems to be a bit of a sentimentalist. So if he picks EtH over the alternatives, he'll be doing so with full commitment to the cause.

In those respects, I don't see this being another AdM or Sanchez situation. Manchester United aren't an escape route that's paying more money than anyone else. We're a chance to rekindle old glories between player and manager.

Its like when you are a teen and you like someone but the person doesn't like you back. But you insist.

Does this mean as soon as Barca have the funds he fecks off back there? Could there be a specific buy-back clause for Barca?

Would love him here, but this has got definite Di Maria vibes.

It's more like the other person is happily in a relationship. But you know their partner is going to break up with them soon. And since you've had a crush on them for while, you're just setting yourself in a position to prove that you're future boyfriend material.

Once here I think he'd settle in fine and be professional about doing the best he can.

Problem could come if he does well and then offers come in or Barca are in a better financial position. In an interview while at Ajax De Jong was pretty dismissive of the EPL and playing in it, if he still feels that way he might be looking to move quicker than you'd think. He was also lined up for PSG until Barca came back with a better contract, he could've been using them but all this dream club stuff might not be the full truth. PSG were initially going to pay him more and that's where he was headed.

De Jong on 350k pw

vs

Puig on 25k pw
Pedri on 15k pw
Nico and Gavi reportedly on even lower wages

There's no way he's on 15k a week? Didn't he sign a new contract last summer with a release clause of 1billion? If so the kid needs to fire his agent from a cannon.

But but the other person is way out of your (Europa) league. :(

The financial deal is a little confusing.

It seems they're getting a short-term fix. 540m, then losing 25% of TV money over 40 years? It's a bad deal for Barca. It's why i think this deal is still on, next year their revenue will be down.

His favourite uncle also happens to be your godfather now or something like that.

Why can't we move on and buy someone else quickly so that we have that player ready for pre season.

Because of fantastic scouting department. I still think we need a DM even if we sign him. VDB\ Bruno can be used as the crative mid coupled with fred. But we dont have any CDM.

This has shades of Fabregas and is getting embarrassing at this point for us.

It's certainly not a good sign for the rest of the summer. If a player is not willing to join us we should make it we are not interested in them either and just move on

Strong Di Maria vibes around him. He says that he wants to stay in Barca and that he loves being here.

Why are we still chasing a player who clearly doesn’t want to join us? Let’s just move on

Erik ten moyes

Change the thread title to the Di Maria thread ffs

We never learn. All this talk about changes at the top yet we're making the exact same mistakes over and over again. Why go for a player that clearly doesn't want to be there? Tell them to feck off and move on to another target who would actually feel proud to wear the shirt. How far has the club fallen where we have to beg under performing players to come join us.

Ugh, I feel like we shouldn't know who or when United are going after someone. Just have your talent evaluators choose a player, and go sign him. I hate the way United do most of their transfers

Trigger word

I'm sure we have some sort of deadline on this. The real question is if we have an alternative option.
