It’s you that misunderstood, it kicks in this season. That’s the whole reason his wage is so huge, and why they want to get rid of him.
Yes I was wrong about when it kicks in- but my point stands clear. He will stay a season or two to recoup that money before leaving

Barcelona are considering the option of offering Frenkie de Jong out on loan, writes Sport. Progress over a permanent move has stalled in recent weeks after the 25-year-old midfielder was reluctant to make the switch to Old Trafford, and the latest indicates that the Blaugrana are now prepared to send him out on loan for the 2022-23 season, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich identified as potential candidates.

Make it make sense.

Isn't that a bit on the nose even for Barcelona propaganda merchants like Sport? It reads as close as it gets to a direct message to United saying "Pay De Jong the money we owe him or we'll loan him to someone who isn't you instead". Don't see it happening as then he'll still be on their books and his wages will automatically go up, as I understand it?

He kind of did though. He said he doesn’t think he has a desire to sign for United and thinks he’d rather live in London if given the choice
If that we’re true United would just move on to another target. United were seriously in for Timber until he got threatened by LVG and we quickly moved onto Martinez.
United have agreed a fee with Barca, the player will have given an indicated to the club that he’s keen to sign. His agency will advise him and he’ll say what they want until the conditions his agency wants are agreed. Barca are the issue, holding everything up hoping Frenkie accepts walking away from a fortune, but they 100% don’t want him on the wage bill and need the transfer fee.

So according to Hunter, Barcelona is willing to pay De Jong the 17M owed, but not upfront. If true, he really wants to stay. I understand the principle of wanting your money upfront from a club who asked you to take a paycut and now wants to ship you out, but it seems like the ball is in the court of him and his agent.

I wouldn't trust them to pay the £17mill and would be holding out for an up-front payment also, tbf, so I'd say the opposite. They have screwed him over already so why should he trust them again? Fool me once etc

Serious question: if FDJ stays at Barcelona and La Liga don't allow them to register their new players, then what happens to them? Presumably they have watertight (as much as FDJ's) contracts, so Barcelona have to pay their salaries (like with FDJ's), but they won't be allowed to play, and they would also try to leave on loan. I guess that's why it makes sense to let FDJ leave on loan, but each year his salary goes up because of the deferred wages, and his value in the transfer market will drop. Barcelona are really up the creek, and in my understanding, a loan for FDJ just defers the problem to next year, a bit like his wages...

Force him on loan, make a false promise that next year they will resolve his wage issues and get another club to pay (in part) or fully his wages?

No idea what they'll do, but I'm sure they'll tell him something like he's in their plans but they're trying to rebuild the club and his wages are an issue so they need to loan him for a season or some bull.

I can't really see where-else he will go with it if it goes to the loan option.

My understanding is that FDJ can simply say no loan please, no?

You should be fine either way, socks don't get pregnant.
Damn who hurt you? Haha probably got a scolding from mom telling you to move out of her basement already so you decided to be a tough guy on the internet.

Only the lack of any walking away brief is keeping me hopeful on this one, also find it hard to believe Erik has not had any assurances from his camp.

Feels the same plus other stuff falling into place like Martinez didn’t get his Ajax squad number. Just click bait and speculations from a audience who hates United. Making us look like fools and desperate sells

We have compromised to raise the fixed amount. There is no way we give in again, otherwise, the management is clowns.
Barca is pressing FDJ.
They are absolute cnuts. They are meant to take the owed wages out of the OG fee but are essentially asking us to pay his services for a period he was a Barca player. We should tell them to piss off and if ETH doesn't understand where we're coming from should lose the extensive transfer privileges we're affording him. Being asked to pay the owed amount is so insulting. Not sure I'm more disgusted by Barca conducting this kind of business or the fact we're even entertaining them. They have literally no leverage over us beyond our total lack of imagination for signing midfielders. No way FDJ is the only player in world football that can both improve us and work with ETH. Start lining up alternate targets.

Its like they are on a coke binge.
I just imagine the club is run by this guy from Boogie Nights and everything they do starts to make sense.

   Thats what I had in mind.

But as what Kieren Maguire had said in the interview -- Barca is living on the edge or will do for the next upteen years. They need to qualify for the CL every year or they then fall back into that terminal or ICU situation again.

United can survive being in & out of the CL though out topline revenues may not grow like it used to be but our cost base is manageable. Barca cant afford that -- different ballpark all together.

Barca won’t have any issue making CL, they’ve got an incredible squad right now in fairness.

In the short term, yes. But one or two seasons out of the CL...

The only trump card they can have to break out of this perpetual financial vice is starting the super league.

This, a lot of people try to make it sound like a super tricky legal/financial issue. It's really not, the issue is : nobody wants to pay De Jong what he wants (or deserve) and he doesn't want to let it go.

The fact is Barca NEED to pay the big money under current contract if FDJ refuse to sign paycut contract and decide to stay. In current lineup, there is no starting place for FDJ, so Barca need to pay a massive money to keep a backup. Barca is avoiding this happen so they are forcing him out.
But FDJ career will finish if he decides to stay with no paycut for next 4 year.

Exactly! There is a bottom line we should never go over.

Would prefer they win NOTHING for 2 years and go bankrupt!

I don't think they will go bankrupt. Before they go bankrupt, Catalonia government will buy their stadium or whatever and rent them back to settle all debts.

The problem is De Jong doesn’t want to leave. Barca would be more than happy to take the 80 million and get rid of his massive wage. But if we could at least get rid of the salary for a year that would be better than keeping a player who's gonna be hated by the fans and substitute to Pedri and Kessié.

Why would the fans hate someone whose insisting on what he's due?

Eriksen and Martinez both opting not to take number21 can only mean ONE thing
