And everyone wanted fan-owned clubs? This is what you get when you have elections every few years.
Everything is political and telling what the fans want to hear.
A nightmare of 24/7/365 soap opera.

Fan-owned clubs are a nightmare scenario for us. The business side must be working and obviously the sporting side as well. I think we will see that things can be very good for us with EtH in charge.

Don't think this is happening. The player has no appetite to move and the Utd move seems like a backup plan for De Jong.

Not sure why it needs repeating on every page, but the player has said not a word the past 8 weeks. Many reports of him and his agent fuming at Barcelona's treatment, he's point blank even refuse to take a meeting regarding a wage reduction, he's been demoted to a bench option, and a bench option CB at that, and the club are constantly trying to make him look the guilty party to it's fans.

At this point I'd be amazed if he doesn't have an appetite to move, dumfounded in fact. It might not be United, but he'll certainly be thinking about life away form all this bollocks, where he can be a treasured & respected central midfielder again.

At this stage, I really hope FDJ stay at Barca and refuse to take paycut. This will make Laporta's plan upside down. And they need to sell more of their future to settle this mess.

Laporta cant be saying he wants to keep the player but play him at CB or on the bench and in the same time force him to take paycut. He also agreed a fees to sell him to Man Utd.

Laporta needs to make up his mind and handle the issues more professionally to make life easier for all parties involved.

We can't be waiting for this crazy man to make up his mind and ruin our major rebuild required at our club.

Just found out that FDJs agent, Dursun Ali, also represents Malacia, Lindelof and Van de Beek. He s been at old trafford a fair bit recently. For what it's worth, no way we pursue this deal without certainty that FDJ would come as we would have had ample opportunity to discuss in depth with Dursun Ali over recent weeks with Donny return and Malacia signing. Am i clutching at straws here? Maybe but seems logical to me.
Stop it with this sensible stuff, we don’t work like that around here.

So isnt the issue that keeping FdJ stops them from registering new players? So they have to shave his 350k wages off the books, for FFP, but they are okay to add over half a million in wages for the new players? Something's not adding up.

I mean it doesnt make sense. Even if say they save 150k/w by reducing his wages by half, surely all the new player wages being added are worth much more than 150k?

And now you understand how all this talk about Frenkie staying on reduced wages is just part of Laporta's smear campaign against de Jong. Barcelona is a soap opera at the moment.

As for his wages, reportedly he has a contract for €400k and supposedly a repayment plan on deferred wages totalling €200k a week, which puts his contract in as a financial obligation of €600k a week, not including potential bonuses. The money they get for him also counts as revenue, and would also be helpful in terms of registering new players - which is probably why they are refusing to pay him what they owe him. Regardless of how they are trying to spin it, they can not afford to keep him.

I dunno what their plan is next season, because unless La Liga changes their rules significantly on this issue, they can't rely on the same strategy next summer. If this newly assembled team doesn't get far in the CL and do well in La Liga, they are pretty much screwed.

It looks to me like you are trying to create some mental 'types of money' here.

To me, there is only one thing: the amount we will pay total for transfer and wages. Whether part of that money is used to cover his deferred wages, his brother's shoe-shopping addiction or the transportation of Frenkie and his fiancee's belongings from Barcelona to Manchester, I couldn't care less.

Yes, Barcelona are acting like absolute scammers, buying players and pretending like they don't have money, all while figuring out how to register players. But why would I care? I don't support Barcelona, I only want us to sign the players the manager needs to be successful. Beyond that, how it happens, what are the money covering, how much are we paying - don't really care.
If you care about what players we are able to bring in then surely you care about how much of our budget is going to go on this deal? If not you might as well not take any interest at all.

There is a fee agreed. If (and I say if because nobody knows the reality) Barca are asking us to pay an additional large sum of money, say £17m, to clear the amount FDJ feels he is entitled to from Barca, then obviously it raises the total cost to us. That’s not important to you? The £17m is not a component of the player’s value.

That's incorrect, his original wage when he signed for them was around 255k /week. The 400k /week that kicks in now includes the amount that was "deferred" from seasons 1-2 to seasons 3-6.

This is my gripe as well. His wages haven’t changed, it’s only high because of tacking in what he’s owed. Throwing it together under the banner of wages is disgusting by Barca

If my pull out game was as weak as ManUtd’s I’d be baby sitting on the weekends instead of bar hopping in Tribeca.
I like a lot of your posting work but this is all wrong. First off; you wouldn’t be baby sitting your own child in this hypothetical. You don’t ‘baby sit’ a child that’s yours. You’d be simply caring for it.

But the problem is that we shouldn’t be ’pulling out’ in the first place. Pulling out is what you do with random one-nighters, where you run around mid-deposit, wiping yourself on her curtains to the tune of Don’t Stop Me Now as she chases you out of the house with something sharp. When you truly love someone you remain where you are, top of the Reverse Triple Donkey Twister position, shouting ’AND SOLSKJAER HAS WON IT!!!’ as your propeller hat spins around and THEN you run around wiping yourself on her curtains.

I swear, kids nowadays know feck all about romance.

There is basically nothing at all to be reported on this until he either takes a wage cut, or Barcelona give him an increased severance.

It's all just posturing besides that and has been for a long while now. Spanish season starts a week after ours so 2 weeks to go to see how they go about registering players

Gosh. He has no appetite for it but he simply cannot stay at Barca without being thoroughly humiliated, financially, professionally and personally (or causing a giant FFP shitstorm).

I actually just explained this very thing has nothing to do with the point. Can someone else help out here? maybe he'll get it if it comes from someone else.

Edit I'll try and rephrase. The point is the debt should not factor into the valuation of the transfer, at any stage. It's a separate obligation only the two parties were ever privy to.

edit 2 this would almost be like buying a car and having the seller require you to cover his bus ticket or gas getting there or some prior independent overlapping transaction that has nothing to do with you. We at least have common ground they are indeed acting like scammers.

And as fractured as our fan base is, populism will be rife

Dint realise wiping yourself in her curtain was a thing. Thought the natural default was her handbags. Otherwise everything else made sense.

This is why the lazy ill informed here have been yelling about how embarrassing Murtough has been pursuing FDJ like some stalker are just dumb.

There we go. "If he goes it's because he chose money"
This is what it was always boiling down too. Their narrative was to emphasise that they're a club who want to have players that are loyal and want to play for the club, not the money, and if they refuse a pay cut, they're obviously in it for the money not the pleasure of the game etc... it's a joke

So basically, he's just playing the line that he has been for the whole time...

"We want him to stay, but to stay he must take a pay cut" not like we didn't know that. He just needs to add in "he also needs to accept that he's a backup centre back now and his time in midfield is dwindling to nothing"

He's piling the pressure on de Jong to take the cut or get out of the club. Nothing more, nothing less.

It feels as though de Jong and Laporta are playing chicken in public. I think they both know he’s leaving but who gives in first.

Barca will give in. They seem to be able to raise cash. They will pay him off to leave. I can’t imagine they believe it can end any other way.

I get it perfectly well, I just don't care nearly as much as you do about it.

And your example is perfect, since there is "buying in a chain", which is quite popular when purchasing a home in the UK, and it is more or less exactly that. One deal is blocked until another event happens. And most times, the event is linked with the money that will change hands in the blocked deal.

In our case, Barca are likely figuring out an accounting way of delaying paying Frenkie off this year all the while getting the money they will be paying him, upfront, from United, and somehow persuading Frenkie to accept the latest financial trick and move to Manchester.

And I don't see anything wrong with that. The shameful thing is how they remain that posture of parallel financial weakness and strength. It is weird and sad, especially since players apparently don't give a fudge, because their agents and lawyers have assured them that they will be getting the money they signed on, even if Barca goes bankrupt.

Overall, I just don't get your negativity around this. Ten Hag wants the player, so who cares how it happens, as long as it happens, right?

I care for the budget to the extent that both the manager and the director of football have given their blessing to make the transfer happen. If we value Frenkie so much that we decide to spend an extra £Xm, so be it.

Yeah, so be it, but we won’t.

Yeah Laporta is clearly making it look they want De Jong to stay and tried to make it work, but ultimately De Jong is greedy and cares more about money than Barcelona. So many idiots lap it up as well.

I don't think they will go bankrupt. Before they go bankrupt, Catalonia government will buy their stadium or whatever and rent them back to settle all debts.
Probably, but it'd nice to see them struggle

I'm sure you do know why it's important that we don't get strongarmed into paying their debt. I doubt anyone would agree to such in real life. The "just pay the fn money" attitude that gets us fleeced constantly gets abuse on here then the next transfer comes by and everyone is back to saying just pay the fn money. Paying their debt would be a new low even for us. I love ETH but I won't be one of them fanboys saying the club didn't back him because we didn't allow other clubs to fleece us. Please Murtough or whoever is handling this, dont give in to this nonsense from Barca.

The guy will take a pay cut and stay. IMO he'd rather do that than move here. We should move on and prepare with an alternative.
His agent has made it pretty clear that he's not accepting any pay cut.

Its purely for the Barca fans' consumption. All political.

Unfortunately he clearly just doesn’t want to leave. I haven’t got a clue who we have in mind as an alternative but my faith in the club to find one couldn’t be lower.
