Frenkie de Jong| Off to Barca - Confirmed

It's not the order of things which the Telegraaf is reporting. First, the PSG delegation had a meeting with Frenkie's agent to get Frenkie's OK, then they met at Ajax with Overmars and Overmars said 75m. I guess Ajax won't be hurrying because the price can only go up now with more competition.

Of course his agent is going to give the OK, as soon as he knows PSG are involved it'll be the biggest payday of his/his clients careers. Overmars should have said 100m and that Madrid were looking for him to replace Modric. PSG give 0 fecks and would just outbid everyone.

Stupid kid. Everyone who's played sport to a moderate level knows that in order to improve you need to be competing directly against the best possible opponents as often as possible.

Might as well have stayed in the Eredivisie.

And you'll think he'd get that in the Eredivisie? He'll face better opponents in PSG's under 21's.

Not sure anyone would pay 100m, except for PSG. Barca, City and Bayern wont pay that for a midfielder, they are not that desperate.

It's funny how De Jong gets so much respect despite being an Eredivisie player who hasn't played a single game against a top European team in his career yet plenty of players who perform in Ligue 1 get mocked for playing against "farmers".
De Jong isn't worth 75M, Le Parisien said PSG weren't willing to pay that money for him and they'd be damn right.

It was just last season that he wasn't even in the Eredivisie TOTY and had very inconsistent performances (which he still has).

If he wasn't Dutch and playing for Cruyff's club Ajax I don't think the Catalan press would give two shit about him really.

He played in the CL, and moreover, he played two games against France, with such a strong world champion midfield, and both times designed to destroy him by Deschamps, and both times he came out on top, making guys like Kanté look like fools. It's those two games. All French eyes were on him. They see him as the new apotheosis of Dutch football.

He played against a midfield of Nzonzi,Matuidi,Kante.
3 defensive players, none able to ever keep possession or to create anything in possession.
Hardly comparable to performing against a top CL team.

He didn't play in Ajax's win vs Bayern, make what you want of it.

This guy saw his own version of the game, completely in his own world.

Also Pogba (first game), Griezmann.

Strootman: When I returned to Marseille after the game, the only thing the players wanted to talk about was De Jong. They didn't know who he was before the game. Now they know.
Mbappe: He is a player who really impressed me during our two matches with the Netherlands. His vision and the quality of his passing that breaks the lines make him very valuable, especially because he also intercepts a considerable amount of balls. Honestly, he is very welcome in Paris! I said to him as much, because he would be enormous for us.
Dechamps: It's difficult to pick a player. But Frenkie de Jong really impresses me with his intelligent play, his technical abilities and his qualities to distribute the ball.

The Dutch lost the first game, let’s just put that out there right off the bat and the second game our midfield and team as a whole had no interest in playing and put out their worst performance of the year most likely, which had nothing to do with de Jong.

He’s got a bright future, no need to get hyperbolic.

No need to get tribal. Maybe you should say it to Mbappe and Dechamps. Who actually managed to analyse and describe the player's qualities instead of talk about a result or the interest of an opponent.

I'd be surprised if QSG makes a serious money move this window. There's a lot of media focus on how they've been let off the hook several times by UEFA with the FFP business. I know they're very good at avoiding sanctions, but they should probably lay low and not buy big unless they sell big.

Well, the thing is, we don't really know where we're at with FPF. There's also significant chances that Cavani leaves this summer (even it there's no certainty), and we don't know if another CF will be bought.

On top of that, a 75M transfer only means 15M/year. Considering that some players like Lassana Diarra (10M charge/year) or Dani Alves (same 10M) will certainly leave, it might give us a bit of leeway. The problem being the fact that we don't only need a midfielder but one good left and right back, another midfielder etc.

#PSG is in advance because the relationship between them and Ajax is excellent. Ajax would rather sell it to the #PSG. On the other hand attention to the 2 Manchester clubs, who also court the player. De Jong is an absolute fan of Guardiola.

If we sell Pogba (which would be a mistake imo), we should use the money to get him and De Ligt.

With Rabiot leaving PSG, and him supposedly being a big fan of pep there’s no point discussing the chances of us signing him.

That would be a good point if you weren't the one who's talking about the kid "destroying a world-class midfield" when he lost the first game and played against a team that gave 0 fecks the second. I was just correcting your hyperbole in the original comment I quoted. I'm actually really excited about de Jong if the PSG rumors come true. I'd be looking forward to seeing him with Veratti and a proper DM. I like the Dutch, and I want to see them back into playing actual tournaments.

It's a very weak argument. It could be used for any player including Messi and Ronaldo and doesn't say anything about the player.

But it's not an argument, it's context.

Ok but who told him? It could be his crazy neighbour with the pet raccoon and this tweet would be factual.

Just United in PSG form, so no one can find out it was United's dirty work to get a hand on De Jong.

This all reeks of using PSG's name being used to get higher bids in. Especially with news of Rabiot being signed for a ridiculous contract.

Really wish we'd throw our hat into the ring. Nothing to lose really.

There's NO way Barcelona gives Rabiot a 10M+ contract. It would be more than Rakitic. It would be ridiculous.

I see Rabiot is out of contract in the summer. I don't understand why we're not sniffing around. It's a no brainer. I see the clubs that are being linked to him and it's the usual suspects.

He was a sub in the first game and improved the Dutch greatly when he came on.

France where shite in the second game, but honestly, France havent impressed me for years despite them winning the world cup. How a team with that much quality can consistently play such terrible football is quite an achievement.

No, PSG have finalized a new contract with him. It should be announced tomorrow.

So it is Pep or money.... again

Bouhafsi is usually fairly reliable, isn't he? If nothing else it's an encouraging sign that we're still trying to pursue the best talents after so many links to journeyman types.
