This is why CL is so good for players like Frenkie de jong.
He's been praised way too much. And seeing what kind of money clubs are willing to spend for him won't do him any good.
In the CL he plays against the big teams and makes a mistake that was even unworthy for Ajax standards.
Let's hope he learns from this, because when he plays for a big club, mistakes like these will not be forgiven so easily.

Blind scored a hattrick today in the Eredivisie as Ajax beat de Graafschap 8-0, FYI

Poor game from Frenkie against Roda in the cup. Baffling how bad Ajax were today. Went through on penalties in the end though.

Frenkie De Jong with another poor game you say? His value is gonna go down at this rate..:D

Absolutely none of the guys who rate Frenkie De Jong and want their club to spend 75M+ on him actually watch him play so don't worry It's fine.

I get so angry and grrrr. When i know the boy can a lot better than he is doing lately. The only thing and most of the time im seeing now is passing and passing. He sit too deep now, more than my liking. Where is the driving and running with the ball?Just passing will maybe over time lower your intensity. Because running foward or driving with the ball. It keep up your intensity, coz you have to run away from your opponent players, it speed you up and max your tempo. So if im coaching this boy. Never as a dcm or deep laying playmaker. Let the boy run a more free role, to free and max all his attacking abilities.

So sum up. I have lower his price lately. I want too see a more running and taking on players De Jong. Run run boy, because you are the young one. Give me the pleasure to watch you again, more in the attack;)

typical prick of a young dutch fella... lovely player to watch though

was only only thinking yesterday watching ole's united how much we would benefit from a serious play maker inthat deep space. Some games would of course still call for an anchor but I think we could introduce players like this into this united team and see a big difference

Frenkie de Jong might possibly be the nicest kid in world football. How do you come away with thinking he's a prick:lol:

haha i cant speak dutch he just reminded me of all those tall 18 year old wierdos wandering around europe with big back packs ! sexy bastards
Ah in that case, I guess his face may seem smug. He's a nice kid though and me saying this says a lot because Ajax is pretty much my Liverpool :p

I'm from Amsterdam, I even visit Ajax's academy games sometimes, you don't have to explain me about these players. It's easy to say now in hindsight that Fosu-Mensah isn't on their level, but he was regarded just as big a talent as De Ligt when he was 16, excelled both for Ajax and Dutch national youth teams at that time, Ajax were very unhappy to see him go. Frenkie de Jong wasn't even regarded that big a talent yet at 18, there's a reason why he played for Willem II that long and didn't really have his break through into the first team of Ajax until he was 20. So again, it's easy for you now to say that Fosu-Mensah isn't on his level, but De Jong wasn't even regarded anywhere near his level when Fosu-Mensah joined United and that when De Jong is older. There's no doubt in my mind that Fosu-Mensah would be in a much better place right now if he'd taken a similar route to De Ligt, and you might've ended up saying that we should have signed him when he was 16 instead.

Regarding Ajax turning down a fee, it's not just about the club. Most talented Ajax youth players get the chance to leave Ajax, just like Fosu-Mensah they get offers from big European clubs when they're 15-16. But many choose to stay because they know it's good for their development. Not to mention the impact it has on their lifes and families, at that age it isn't just the player that has to move to another country and leave everything behind either, their family or at least a parent often does too. And the Premier League isn't really seen here as a great move for a Dutch youth player, it's seen as risky, some even say it's where Dutch youth talent goes to die.

Today Ajax released a video they showed to the young players last season, in an attempt to keep them at the club. It worked.

Nice vid and all, but if a video saying: eh, we used to be really good, was the only motivation for them to stay, they're a bit daft. And believe me, you can show them a video of a naked Santa scoring a bicycle kick in the CL final, De Jong, De Ligt, Onana and Ziyech are leaving this year. Dolberg and Van de Beek might stay, but they're a bit shit, so that's a given.

Don't get me wrong, I would love if Ajax could keep their great players, but I think most of 'em stayed last year, because they knew it was too early to leave. Not because they saw a video of Frank Rijkaard and Wesley Sneijder wearing an Ajax jersey. Those times are behind us never too return.

De Jong is my main transfer target. Thoroughly blown away by him.

De jong and De legt would be brilliant signings but unfortunately we'll miss the chance to sign them due to the lack of a permanent manager. If ollie or pottocino were given the job we could go out for both players.

De Jong isn't good enough for United right now and I expect him to have a very hard time no matter where he moves.

I would agree he isn't ready to be main driver from midfield at the moment, but give him 6 months at ot he'll be world class.

I've watched enough of him really, he doesn't stand out nearly eough in the Eredivisie to succeed after such a big move, I'd take about 5 other Eredivisie players before thinking of him.

You clearly haven't watched enough then. Guy has the highest footballing IQ for a midfielder of his generation. Players like these adapt very quickly to new situations and challenges. Of course he'll need time to settle in the premier league but his potential and ceiling is incredible.

Have we been even remotely linked with him? I just see wishful posts about the lad.
Bouhafsi said we're interested a while ago but the more serious links have been with City/Barca/PSG.

He looks promising and some of his highlights I've seen (only 4 or 5, not gonna pretend I'm an expert) he looks impressive given his age. But in this internet age everyone think they're experts are vasty over rating young players and De Jong is no different.

In such a competitive market in modern football every club want the next big thing and end up almost gambling massive money on players. De Jong has shown nothing outside of Holland apart from that 1 good international friendly.

At the moment, he's vasty overrated. De Ligt to me looks twice the player albeit different positions. Of course that's not to say De Jong is bad or won't end up world class.

Considering your brilliant analysis on Mbappé (and the flaws that he'd have that are "impossible to correct" according to you), i'm not suprised to see how clueless you are, again.

Saw 4 or 5 highlights, nevertheless is an expert on judging De Jong and considers him overrated, while simultaneous complaining about internet age experts. Yeah.

You do realize Ajax qualified for the final 16 of the ECL right?

He's 21, playing in the a 7th or 8th rated league. Huge potential maybe but all you have to do is read some comments on this thread that are severally overrating his current ability. Like he can just walk into a Barcelona midfield.

I agree with this. For him to truly develop he'll need to step up to a tougher league. The Dutch league is weak and players with ability can be lulled into complacency.
