So De Telegraaf in Holland which is a very solid source for Dutch news is saying he's of to join Nassar El Khelafi in Paris.

So much for that

It could've been us but we have the wrong manager in charge to entice players of that ilk sadly.
There's no guarantee that he'd come to us regardless. It's hardly as if we never missed out on such talents when other managers were in charge. I'm all for Mourinho to be sacked but let's at least keep it relevant.

Think we might have had a good chance under LVG. Under the current manager, players of that ilk would only come to us for the money.

Maybe he isn't sure he is ready for the best leagues yet and wants a guaranteed starting place. That's good. But if he is the real deal indeed, he'll get bored soon there.

So the Telegraaf is showing photos of the PSG delegation including Maxwell meeting with Frenkie's agent in Amsterdam, which means they were granted the inside scoop on the story. Overmars confirmed they also had a meeting. So it seems to be getting pretty real now. According to the Telegraaf, City can't move right now because of FFP, Frenkie likes how PSG is doing business, how they aspire to win the CL, how the manager makes them play and how he is imagined to be the link to the likes of Mbappe and Neymar.

If he ends up at PSG then he will be at PSG for number of years like Verratti. They can't get away from there. It's a big waste of move imo.

Most probably, but on the condition that he turns out to be that top top talent he is supposed to be. If he is really brilliant, 5-6 years at PSG will be a bit too much for his career. Still, he could go to Barca when he's 26-27 y.o.

Yeah but will PSG release him? If PSG have ambitious project then they won't sell their best players.

They wouldn't but he could refuse to resign and move elsewhere a year before his contract expires. If he really really wants to play for Barca or in one of the best leagues, that is.

Frenkie and Verratti in midfield

Unfortunately I'm sure ths transfer saga is far from over.

Yeah that's correct theoretically but same thing happened to Verratti too. He wanted to join Barca and probably signed few extensions already. Maybe it's not as easy.

Would be in Ajax best interest to leak this PSG interest so other clubs become more concrete with their offers. I doubt anything is certain.

It's not just Ajax who is leaking news. They actually met with a PSG delegation. Combined with the fact that Mbappe apparently wants De Jong to come to PSG, plus that the source of this story is pretty reliable I would say there is a big chance this is true.

This is going to happen.

Not sure what to think about it though. PSG wouldn't be my first choice for him.

But a midfield with Frenkie and Verratti...

Imagine if they would be able to add Kante to that mix, with Mbappe Neymar and Cavini in front of them...

Still hope this wont happen though.. Hope Frenkie goes to Italy (Juve), England or Spain so I would be able to keep seeing him play regularly..

surely we all hope frenkie goes to hollywood (LA Galaxy at some point) - but based on the fact i doubt he fancies joining us at the moment I just hope he does not go to city or liverpool

PSG, really? That'd be such an underwhelming move. I want to see this kid in the PL.

This would be unspeakably lame. Whoopdyfeckingdoo beating Evian 10-0 every weekend. Can't he go to a real league?

Going to PSG apparently

I don't understand why anyone would want to play in an inferior league when they can go to Spain, Germany or even England. Not like paying in french league every week would improve your game.

And PSG doesn't let players leave the club even if they request a transfer.

The more i think about it, the more i understand.
Barca-> won't get better in the coming years.
Real-> bench all their new players
City-> FFP problems
United-> Mourinho
Bayern-> Don't do big transfers like this one

PSG is ambitious. Yes, the league isn't all that. But they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in Europe. And...how long will PSG be playing in the French league with all that talk about the superleague?

Surely PSG have FFP problems as well? They wouldn't have an awful lot of money without sales as a transfer budget whilst passing FFP restrictions either way.

I think they play the game smarter than most clubs, but i'm sure it will backfire at one moment.

The problem with that is the players won't be used to the step up in quality, they'd be so used to steamrolling teams that once they come up against an in form Barca, or Juve, they'll be shocked and they won't have that nous to soak up the pressure, because they wouldn't have faced it before.

It's basically a catch 22, they could probably rest players before the big CL games too, having them fresher, but a competitive league is very important to keeping at the top of your game, it's probably why Bayern had that magnificent season, because they had an impressive Dortmund to compete with.

No chance currently, we can't seem to attract top tier talents anymore.
I agree..

But had we had LVG in charge then it was a real possibility. It's a pity he was in charge at a time when De Jong wasn't on the radar. Memphis Depay was the big talent and we got him, eventhough PSG were strongly rumoured to be interested.

I'd even go further back from the mid to late 2000's to early 2010's where we on top and didn't invest properly resulting in the mess we're in now.

Either way, I think we should do better at scouting young players before their prices rise to ridiculous levels.

There was no value in the market in the mid to late 2000's..:wenger:

Of course there are never guarantees. However, what @Adnan and @United Pro have written is indeed relevant:

He isn't a top tier talent though (yet)
We've never indulged in spending so much on players making a step up like this would be.
I don't know where this Oh days gone by criticism is coming from.
Who was the last big midfielder we signed pre Pogba. Carrick? Even then..
Hell, it could be Veron.

He’s the right type of signing PSG require to push to the next level in the CL. Their midfield is essentially Verratti or bust. Letting Rabbit go on a free to Barcelona, thereby bumping them out of the race, is genius.

PSG isn't the best move for him but Ajax can't afford to turn down 75m, and I doubt many teams better it for someone whose still unproven despite being talented.

It's not the order of things which the Telegraaf is reporting. First, the PSG delegation had a meeting with Frenkie's agent to get Frenkie's OK, then they met at Ajax with Overmars and Overmars said 75m. I guess Ajax won't be hurrying because the price can only go up now with more competition.
